Finance and General Management practitioner educated in Nigeria and Manchester Business School, UK, Dr Stephen Aro-Gordon, entered academia in 2005 after years of experience in the financial services industry. He has been a visiting professor in Finance and Strategy at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore, India, since August 2015. He currently teaches Finance and Strategic Management courses at the Department of Business and Accounting at the Sultanate of Oman’s Muscat College, affiliated with the University of Stirling, Scotland, UK, and the Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al Sultan Abdullahi, Malaysia. He taught at Baze University, where he taught Calculus, and was the founding head of the Financial Mathematics programme in 2014-2015. He has also taught on the professional training programmes of the Chartered Institute of Administration (CIA), the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), and the School of Banking Honours (SBH). He is a Lifetime Fellow of the International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS), Japan. An active researcher, he regularly speaks at scholarly conferences, and his work is widely published in academic journals. He received the Best Paper Award at GB15 Kolkata International Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance, and Social Sciences for his Paper on Building a Coalescent Model for Sustainable Portfolio Risk Management –An Empirical Analysis held in Kolkata, India, in December 2015. He also received the Best Presenter Award at the 13th Global Conference on Business and Social Sciences (GCBSS) for his Paper on Determinants of Sustainable Capital Budgeting Practice: A Structural Equation Modelling Approach, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in June 2022. He is currently leading an interdisciplinary team of researchers on a new project, Oman’s Global Competitiveness and Emerging Sustainability Dynamics: A Big Data Technology Application, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MoHERI) of the Sultanate of Oman. Dr Stephen has received several other awards and recognitions for academic and professional excellence, notably, the best-graduating student at the University of Nigeria, the erstwhile International Merchant Bank (IMB)’s Special Merit Award in 1992, and Muscat College’s Annual Researcher Award 2022/23.

A new Big Data Technology research project, “Oman’s Global Competitiveness and Emerging Sustainability Dynamics: A Big Data Technology Application'' (GCESD-BDT), recently received funding from the Research Council (TRC) of the Oman Ministry for Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MoHERI) under the Block Funding Agreement Number MoHERI/BFP/MC/2022. The multidisciplinary team, led by the principal investigator (PI), Dr Stephen Aro-Gordon, Assistant Professor at Muscat College, Oman (2nd Row, Right), held its virtual inaugural meeting on 2nd February 2023. Other members of the project team include Dr Shermina Jeba, Assistant Professor of Information Technology and Deputy HOD Computing, Muscat College, Oman (2nd Row, Left); Professor Mohamed Minhaj, Information Systems Faculty at SDMIMD, Mysore, India (2nd Row, Middle); Professor and former Fulbright Scholar Hussainatu Abdullahi, Economics Department, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Nigeria (Top Row, Left); Associate Professor of Computer-Aided Learning (CAL) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Dr RaEd QaQish, Department of Architecture, Canadian University of Dubai (Top Row, Middle); Associate Professor of Quantitative Methods/Statistics, Dr Sri Lakshminarayana Gali, SDMIMD, Mysore, India (Top Row, Right); and Dr Anitha Ravikumar, the Project’s Co-I and Business Studies Faculty at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Muscat, Oman (3rd  column, Middle); among other project team members.
