SDMites emerged as Runners-up in SCM Event

Mr. Rohitaksh G.S., Mr. Paras Mainali and Mr. Bhavesh Sobhani, students of PGDM 2014-16 batch have won the runner up prize in the SCM MAESTRO – a national level Supply Chain Management (SCM) event organized by Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), Pune on the theme “Supply chain management and its importance in Make in India initiative”.
The event comprising of 2 rounds was designed to check the practical application of SCM concepts and their relevance in "Make in India" initiative. SDMites beat the teams from well-known colleges in the country like KJ Somaiya, IIM Indore, IIM Ranchi, Welingkar and SIIB

SDMites emerged as Runners-up in Case Study Competition

Mr. Sudhanshu Chauhan and Mr. Shivendra Gupta, students of the PGDM 2014-16 batch have won the Runner-up prize in Caso di Studio, a national level case study competition organized by Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), Pune. They competed with the teams from some of the well-known B-schools in the country like Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A); Indian Institute of Management, Kozikode (IIM-K); Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad; etc.

Visit of ACBSP President

Mr. Jeffrey Alderman, President & CEO, Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP) the Global Business Accreditation body, visited SDMIMD for interaction on Friday, August 28, 2015. The interactive session with faculty members & students, followed by the campus tour was part of the packed schedule for Mr. Jeffrey Alderman.  Speaking about ACBSP Mr. Jeffrey pointed out how the accreditation brings quality, equanimity and collaboration among B-Schools.  Further, he shared information about initiatives of accrediting bodies in enhancing the collaborative research. Dr. Rajesh Khajuria, Chairman, GTU's Global MBA Program and Director of SMJV's CKSVIM Business School, Vadodara, India, accompanied Mr. Jeffrey. 

CPBM for SkanRay Technologies

SDM IMD commenced the Certificate Program in Business Management (CPBM) for the employees of SkanRay Technologies Pvt. Ltd., on 31 August 2015. The Inaugural Session was held in the MDP Hall at 5.30 pm. Prof. Malathi Sriram, Chairperson – Academic Programs, welcomed the participants. 
Mr. Vishwaprasad Alva, Managing Director, SkanRay Technologies and Mr. Ravikumar, the Manager-HR at SkanRay Technologies were present on the occasion.  The Inaugural session was also graced by the Director SDMIMD, Dr. N.R Parasuraman, Deputy Director Dr. H Gayathri and other faculty members. 
Speaking in his welcome address Dr. N.R Parasuraman, emphasized on the amalgamation of the employee experience with the structured theoretical framework of the classroom would be a great learning for the participants. Mr. Vishwaprasad Alva stressed on the need for such programs for the mid-level executives that will enhance their contemporaneous industry knowledge.

4th batch of NCCMP Program

In terms of the arrangement which SDMIMD has with National Stock Exchange (NSE) a special training program - NSE Certified Capital Markets Professional (NCCMP) was organized for the finance students. The program aims to inculcate practical aspects of Capital Markets among students and preparing the young managers in the field of Equity Research, Merchant Banking, Portfolio Advisory, and allied areas. The program with an eclectic mix of theoretical and hands-on sessions is aimed at exposing participants to all the essential areas of study. 
As a part of this program students visited NSE Office, Chennai for hands on session on Financial Markets on August 27 & 28, 2015. The sessions were handled by Senior Officials of NSE. The sessions covered broad areas of Financial Markets such as basics of investments, new innovative financial instruments, trading and settlement in Futures and Options. A session on Investors Redressal and Grievances Forum was held wherein the students were taken through the functions of the forum and how arbitration works in the Capital Market. The following day the students were taken to a leading stock broking firm. The Assistant Vice President of the firm addressed the students on the various departments and their functions of a stock broking firm. The visit culminated with a session on nuances of stock market trading and live demonstration on online trading in stocks, currencies and commodities.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded the NCCMP Charter that is much acclaimed by employers of the Financial Markets industry.

‘Stand up, start up and scale up’ said Mr. M.N. Vidyashankar

If Indians can do well in Silicon Valley, why not in Indus valley? Thus questioned Mr. M.N. Vidyashankar, President, Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) and Former Principal and Additional Chief Secretary to Commerce & Industries Department, Govt. of Karnataka & to the budding leaders of SDMIMD and kindled the thought of entrepreneurship among the students, during the invited talk organized on August 24, 2015. 
He urged students to become entrepreneurs and not run behind a job after the graduation. Mr. Vidyashankar impressed upon them the fact that there is huge opportunity out there in electronics design and manufacturing space, since the electronics imports bill for the country is almost on the verge of surpassing the import bill of oil which hogs lion's share of imports and foreign exchange of the country. In the light of this he narrated several opportunities for Make in India in the electronics space and how these can benefit everyone in the country. Mr. Vidyashankar encouraged students to convert their passion in to ideas and develop these ideas to enterprises. He urged them to look around for problems in our day to day life and find a viable solution which is scalable by leveraging technology and make it big and create value. His slogan was “Stand up, start up and scale up”, and this is the way to go.

4th International Finance Conference 2015

 
Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) Mysore organized the 4th International Conference on Emerging Trends in Finance & Accounting from August 20 – 22, 2015 at its serene campus located at the foothill of the world-famous Chamundi-Hills in Mysore, Karnataka, India. 
The International Conference commenced with a Conference Workshop on the theme – “Empirical Research in Finance” organized on August 20 (Thursday), 2015. The workshop witnessed representation of 41 participants representing India and the countries of Republic of Iran, Republic of Yemen, Bangladesh, and Malaysia. Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Professor, Faculty of Business & Economics, Bond University, Australia was the key resource person. Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director & Professor – Finance, SDMIMD India; Dr. Vasumathy Hariharan, Associate Professor – Finance, SRM University, India; Dr. Stephen Aro-Gordon, Dept. Chair of Financial Mathematics, Baze University, Nigeria, and Dr. Ullas Rao, Associate Professor – Finance, SDMIMD India were the other illustrious resource persons who addressed the audience. 
The International Conference was inaugurated on August 21 (Friday) by Shri T. Srikanth Bhagavat, Managing Director & Principal Advisor – Hexagon Wealth, India. In his Key Note Address, Mr. Bhagavat highlighted the critical role played by India in contributing towards world economic development for several thousands of years. The presentation enriched with vignettes of trends in world economic trade and macro-data made up for a perfect opening of the proceedings of the two-day International Conference.
The International Conference witnessed participation of 108 delegates representing prestigious universities and centres of higher learning from India and abroad, who presented papers on highly invigorating and insightful themes within the realms of Finance & Accounting. The countries represented included Australia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Republic of Yemen, UAE, Kingdom of Bahrain, Republic of Iran, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and France.
Dr. Elango Rengasamy – Head of Banking & Finance Program, British University in Dubai (BuID), UAE and Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Professor of Economics, Bond University, Australia delivered the Technical Sessions on August 21 (Friday), 2015. While Dr. Rengasamy delivered the technical session on “GREXIT & BRIXIT: Implication for India”, Dr. Kumar’s talk centred upon “Financial Statement Analysis & Fraud Detection”. The invited technical sessions were received very well by the participating audience that included an interactive Q&A session.
One of the key highlights of the International Conference was the “Summit on Microfinance” organized on August 22 (Saturday), 2015. The summit witnessed representation from some of the most respected Microfinance Institutions in India sharing the dais with Dr. Arvind Ashta, Holder of the Banque Populaire Chair in Microfinance, Burgundy School of Business, France. Representatives from SKS Microfinance, Ujjivan Financial Services, Micrograam, and RUDSETI participated in an enchanting panel discussion organized on the theme – “Opportunities & Challenges surrounding the MFI sector in India”. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Arvind Ashta
The Valedictory Address was delivered by the renowned financial expert – Dr. Prasanna Chandra, Director – Centre for Financial Management (CFM) and Former Professor of Finance – IIM Bangalore. In his address, Dr. Chandra enlightened the audience on Corporate Value Creation by highlighting the process of wealth creation exemplified by the legendary Warren Buffett and his Berkshire Hathaway. Dr. Stephen Aro-Gordon in his address stressed upon the significant opportunities available to the international investing community in the emerging market of Nigeria.
With a footfall of more than 160 participants across the three days from August 20 – 22, 2015, SDMIMD Mysore literally turned into a financial village making the 4th International Conference on Emerging Trends in Finance & Accounting a stupendous success.
