HR Conference Valedictory talk by Mr. C Mahalingam

Mr. C Mahalingam, Executive Vice President & Global Chief People Officer, Symphony Services Corporation, was invited to speak on 'Measuring HR Architecture' during Valedictory function scheduled on 2nd day of the 5th International HR Conference held during December 9 & 10, 2016 at SDMIMD. The speaker focused his presentation on the aspects of business imperatives, accelerating performance, crisis in measurement as criteria in measuring HR Architecture. The speaker presented the ideas with live cases from the industry. 

Invited talk by Mr. Naganagouda S.J

'VUCA World' was the topic for deliberation during the technical session presented by Mr. Naganagouda S.J., Associate Vice President & Head of Human Resources at Global Edge Software Ltd., on day 2 of the 5th International HR Conference held on December 9 & 10, 2016 at SDMIMD. Mr. Naganagouda said VUCA and key competencies are the future of work and it drives the skills for the future. 

Alumnus on Campus – Mr. Chandrasekhar Kalubandi

'Workforce Transformation' was the invited talk presented during the technical session at the 5th International HR Conference, scheduled on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Mr. Chandrasekhar Kalubandi, Vice President, NTT Data, Bangalore, the invited speaker and alumnus of SDMIMD, shared his views on how the focus of the workforce has shifted from 'factor driven growth' to 'innovation driven growth'. The discussion on how workforce transformation helps in employee motivation with the audience was interesting. 

Talk on Talent Transformation

Mr. Praveen Kamath, Global Head, Talent Transformation, Wipro, was the invited speaker for the technical session of 5th International HR Conference scheduled on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Speaking on the topic 'Talent Transformation', Mr. Praveen focused his presentation on talent acquisition, talent leadership, engagement, talent optimization, talent recognition, reward management and Talent analysis.

Invited talk by Prof. Umesh Chandrasekhar

Prof. Umesh Chandrasekhar, PSG Institute, Coimbatore, was the invited speaker for the first technical session for the 5th International HR Conference held on Friday, December 9, 2016. Prof. Umesh addressed the gathering on 'Employer Branding'. Speaking on the topic Prof. Umesh discussed the internal & external branding, and explained the reasons for failure of employee branding.  He said that the core of the brand is the Employee value Proposition (EVP).

Inauguration of the 5th International HR Conference

SDMIMD has organized the 5th International Conference on “Managing Human Resources at the workplace” on December 9 & 10, 2016. The inauguration ceremony was held today at the institute auditorium. Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD welcomed the participants and guests. He outlined the significance of HRM in developing organizational competitiveness. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Conference Chair, spoke about the role of HRM as a strategic business partner in developing and maintaining organizational sustainability. Dr. Ashly Pinnington, Dean-Research from British University in Dubai, delivered the key note address. In his speech, he spoke about the globalization and its effects on the developments in HRM areas and business schools. He compared the state of art business schools 50 years ago and the present scenario in the Business schools. He mentioned the contribution of these business schools to our future and predicted that the Business schools will become networked, stratified and segmented. He also spoke about work-life balance, HRIS, Big Data Analytics, Industrial relations, Talent management and Ethical HRM. His speech included views on employer branding, change management, corporate social responsibility & HRM. Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Conference Co-chair, proposed the vote of thanks.  More than 250 participants from India, and countries, such as, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and UAE, are participating in the conference. 

Pre-Conference Workshop on HRM: The Road Ahead

SDMIMD has organized the 5th International Conference on “Managing Human Resources at the workplace” on December 9 & 10, 2016. A pre-conference workshop was held on December 8, 2016, to discuss the latest trends in HRM, such as, HR Scorecard, role of HRM in organizational sustainability, Qualitative Research Methods in HRM, and IT in HRM
 
Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Conference Chair welcomed the participants of the workshop. Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD spoke on the need for HRM in organizations and the road ahead.
 
Dr. Ashly Pinnington Dean-Research from British University in Dubai spoke on the relationship between organizational culture and leadership style in the technical and vocational institutions.  Role of HRM in nurturing organizational sustainability, with an inclusive approach, was discussed by Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, with various corporate illustrations. 
 
The other resources persons for the workshop were Professor Md. Minhaj and Prof. S.N Prasad. Dr. Gayathri, Deputy-Director, and other faculty members were present. 40 participants from all over the country attended the workshop. 

Karnataka Rajyotsava Celebrations

Karnataka Rajyotsava was celebrated at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development, Mysore, on November 29, 2016. The event started with hosting of the Kannada flag by the Director of the Institute, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman. Students sang the Kannada Naadageete ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya tanujaate’. A special lunch with unique dishes of Karnataka was served by the students of Karnataka to other 20 states students, faculty and staff members of the institute. Kannada songs were played in the campus. 
 
In the evening, sports and cultural programs were organized. Traditional local games were introduced to other state students. Students from other states sang Kannada songs and danced to the tunes. Kabaddi match played between the staff and students’ teams and the ‘Folk dance’ performance were the highlights of the celebrations.
