Abhigyaan 2016

The 6th edition of the 2-Day Annual Management Fest for Undergraduate students Abhigyaan 2016 was organized on October 3 & 4, 2016 by SDMites. Samprathi - the SDMites team spear headed the event said ‘this edition of Abhigyaan primarily aimed at providing a platform and exposure to the undergraduate students. 338 students from different colleges across the state participated in the 6 events in Abhigyaan designed to assess their managerial skills’. 
 
The students from SDM College for Business Management, Mangalore, emerged as overall champions. The Champions won First Prize in the marketing event; Mr. Hrishikesh R.K. from the winning team emerged as the Best Manager event; and won 2nd prize in HR Event. “Through the Lens” the photography event was captured by students from Vidyavardhaka College, Mysore. The young managers from Vidyaashram, Mysore team won the HR Event HRendezvouz and the marketing event Mark-emptor. The students from SDM Degree College, Ujire, showcased their talent in Street Play event and won First place. 

Exchange Program visit of Dr. Neetu Ganapathy to Shanghai University

    
Dr. Neetu Ganapathy was invited by the Shanghai University in Shanghai, China to teach a course on Cross-Border Managerial Communication between September 3, 2016 and September 11, 2016. The course was part of the curriculum of the Global Local MBA program and was attended by 31 participants from across China and Spain.  
 
Considering the diversity in today's workplace, the course aimed at sensitizing managers to the need to be aware of the differences that exist between people from different cultures. It focussed on helping managers to understand the need to develop cross-cultural communication competence, get to know other cultures, use the right verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, develop a cross-cultural adaptation strategy and negotiate on cross-cultural teams. The pedagogy comprised of lectures, case discussions and role plays.

Entrepreneurship Talk by Ms Akshra Kumar

‘E-cell Swayam’ had organized an entrepreneurship talk on the Preparation of a Business Plan and Related Strategies for a Start-up by Ms. Akshara Kumar, founder-Truly Essential (Chaitanya Agro Herbals), Mysore; and Chapter Co Chair, Young Indians (Mysuru Chapter) on October 13, 2016 in the Institute Auditorium. 
 
Ms. Akshara in her talk introduced the basics of business plans, emphasizing on how to relate the business with forming any business plan. She touched upon product strategies, value proposition, and customer relationships. Further, Ms. Akshara explained about how customer relationship is important for any business in the world, and elaborated on strategies for customer acquisition, customer retention & boosting sales, to increase customer base.
 
The speaker concluded the session by saying, “at the starting or launching of any idea ‘YOU’ are the most important thing, so one must believe in oneself”.

SDMIMD Garden won 4 Prizes in Dasara 2016

SDMIMD is known for its architectural beauty, which has won Archi Design Award for Excellence for Best Institutional Building Design. The lush Green Garden is equally famous  and has been winning the Best Institutional Garden award consistently from 2006 in Mysuru Dasara Garden Competition organized by the Horticulture Department, Government of Karnataka; and District Horticulture Society. 
 
SDMIMD’s garden has again kept its promise and won three first prizes (Ornamental Outdoor Plants, Lawns, and, Indoor Plants – Category) and second prize in Fruit Plants Category, in Mysuru Dasara 2016.

Saraswathi Pooja Celebration

For SDMites, Mysore Dasara is special and a rich experience. The festival changes the monotonous way of life, makes it more colourful with many exciting things to look forward to. It is this spirit that makes the festival so special. The Durga and Saraswathi Pooja are important events of Dasara festivities. 
 
SDMites organized Saraswati Pooja at SDMIMD Library to pray to the Goddess of Knowledge. The devotional Carnatic song rendered by Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, our Director was the highlight of the Pooja celebration.

Workshop on Business Analytics

SDMIMD in collaboration with ESC Pau Business School, France, organised a 3-Day Workshop on Business Analytics for the students of SDMIMD during October 3-5, 2016.  The workshop brought in perspectives on international and interdisciplinary dimensions to the elective course ‘Business Intelligence’ in PGDM Program. Dr. Lee Schlenker, Professor of Information Systems at the ESC Pau Business School, France, was the resource person, and it was coordinated by Prof. Mohamed Minhaj from SDMIMD. Apart from discussions on working in the Digital Economy and transforming data into Business Intelligence for effective business decisions, the workshop also exposed the participants to Visual Analytics using SAS, which is an analytics platform widely used by the corporate world. 

Talk on CII Young Indians (YI) - YUVA

Mr. Utsav Agarwal, Director of Bhoruka Aluminum Limited and Representative from Young Indians (YI), the chapter of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) introduced Young Indians chapter and YUVA platform to SDMites of PGDM 2016-18 batch on September 29, 2016. Mr. Agarwal motivational talk started with leadership, qualities that a leader should possess and focused on Nation building. The instances and experiences shared by the speaker about how an individual can contribute towards Nation building was interesting. Mr. Utsav Agarwal also highlighted the various activities that Young Indians carries out through YUVA, which is a platform that Young Indians (YI) provide for students to enhance their leadership skills and to build corporate network. 

Dasara Guests from China to SDMIMD

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwar Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) the B-School in Mysore will be the host for 16 MBA students from Shanghai University, China – one of its International Students Exchange Program partners, during the first week of October. The young managers from this visiting university will be led by Ms. Ai Lina.  
 
To make the visit enriching and learning experience a lecture series has been organized for the Chines students where in experts from industries will also be invited. The series includes lecture on leadership dimensions, managerial communication, international business, business negotiation and business analytics, during the week-long exchange program visit. 
 
As a part of cultural immersion activity to introduce history, culture, art, architecture and heritage, the social interaction and sightseeing are planned for the visiting students. Without introducing ‘Yoga and Wellness’ in a program offered by an institute situated in Yoga Capital Mysore is incomplete. For these young managers from Shanghai University the day start with a session on ‘Yoga and Wellness’. 
 
The week-long engaging activity also includes industry visits, interaction with corporate leaders, and project presentations.
