MDP on Managing Difficult Customers

A one-day Management Development Program (MDP) on 'Managing Difficult Customers' was held on June 21, 2019, at SDMIMD, Mysore. The program was designed for executives and managers who manage customers and academicians in the area of marketing.

The resource persons were Dr Mousumi Sengupta, Professor of Organizational Behaviour & Human Resource Management and Dr Sugant, Professor - Marketing. The sessions were planned to discuss the tools such as emotional intelligence in dealing with the customers, steps involved in complaint handling, relationship management, customer value and tools & strategies for service recovery. The sessions were driven through activities and exercises.

Earlier, Dr H. Gayathri, Deputy Director & Professor-Marketing, SDMIMD, inaugurated the program and opined that 'Customer is always right' and social media plays important role in reaching the customer and managing them. Dr Sunil MV, Coordinator, introduced the resource persons and presented the theme of the programme. 

Stakeholders Interaction on E-Waste Management

The IT Panel of CII, Mysuru had organized a Stakeholders Interaction on E-Waste Management at SDMIMD on 21 June 2019.  The objective of the meeting was to advocate the safe disposal of e-waste   and to devise an efficient and sustainable model for management of the e-waste generated in Mysuru. Mr. Shankar Prasad, Vertical Head of Excelsoft Technologies Pvt Ltd and convener IT Panel, welcomed the participants and coordinated the  program. Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director, SDMIMD made her opening remarks about the theme of the program. The program was presided by the chairman of CII Mysore,  Mr. Bhaskar Kalale.  Dr. A. Ramesh, Senior Environmental Officer, KSPCB, Bangalore presented the rules and regulations in E-Waste Management. Dr. P. M. Kulkarni, President of Bhageerath spoke about the issues and challenges related to e-waste management. Dr. Nagaraj, Health Officer, Mysore City Corporation, delivered the keynote address.  The program, which was attended by 90 delegates, concluded with an interactive session, moderated by members of CII IT Panel, Mr. Sudheer and Mr. Rakesh Babu. Mr. Raghava Lingegowda, Group Vertical Head, Theorem Inc., proposed the vote of thanks.

SDMIMD Director appointed to EPAS accreditation Board

The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) has appointed Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director & Professor – Finance, SDMIMD, Mysore as a member of the EFMD Program Accreditation System (EPAS) Board. The primary focus of the EFMD EPAS Board is to consider whether a programme meet the prescribed standards by evaluating the proposals along with Peer review reports presented to the Board for approval of accreditation status.
 
This is a prestigious appointment for SDMIMD in the sense that it is a recognition of the high standards that the Institute has been maintaining.  The words used in the EFMD website are “The EPAS Accreditation Board is composed of representatives of high profile organisations that are stakeholders in the quality improvement of management education”

Business Landscape 2019

The Business Landscape course for the PGDM 2018-20 Batch during the second year was organized from 11th June 2019 to 15th June 2019. The aim of the course was to sensitize the students towards the recent developments and issues in the current business environment, both globally and in the context of the Indian economy. 
 
The week-long program was an enriching learning experience for the students with interesting sessions by the faculties and guests, in addition to the debates and panel discussions by students. The program was instrumental in making the students understand the different aspects that affect businesses within the economy and across the globe. The broad range of topics included: the Business Environment in India and the World, current challenges of National Finances of India, Ideas for the young managers to know the pulse of rural India, importance of including vernacular languages by the businesses instead of English, Data as the driver of businesses in Enabling Technologies for the Future, the role of Co-operative model to solve the  agrarian distress in India, Priorities for the New Govt. in the next two years, the current state of women empowerment, Perspective on Energy Security for India, the present trends in transport and mobility in India, etc.
 
The entire course witnessed enthusiastic participation and interesting discussions from the students. The program was coordinated by Dr. S N Prasad

MDP on Team Building and Conflict Management Strategies

On 15th June 2019, SDMIMD organized a Management Development Program on ‘Team Building and Conflict Management Strategies’ at SDMIMD, Mysore. The program was aimed at sensitizing the participants to the growing importance of teamwork and conflict management for organizational excellence.

Prof. L Gandhi, and Dr Mousumi Sengupta, Program Resource Persons and Faculty Members in the area of OB &HR, SDMIMD, in their interactive sessions with the participants, provided insights on the different personality determinants based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. In addition, the significance and the different approaches to Team Building were incorporated through team building activities. The resource persons discussed cases pertaining to organizational conflicts in the corporate world, need to be aware of the different types of conflicts in teams and strategies to resolve the same were elucidated. The program enlightened the participants on creating effective teams and efficient resolution of conflicts, which will be a significant value addition to the overall organizational success.   

The program was attended by 22 lower and middle-level executives from leading corporates.  Dr Sunil M.V., Program Coordinator and faculty members were present in the program.

MDP on Effective Business Presentation Skills

A one-day MDP on "Effective Business Presentation Skills" was held on June 14, 2019, at SDMIMD. Oftentimes, business executives are unable to present their ideas clearly to their target audience, be they clients, peers or superiors. This results in ineffective presentations which serve no purpose. The MDP focused on aiding participants in understanding the core competencies of an effective presenter and guided them in making good speech habits a part of their repertoire.

The participants were taken through exercises to help them understand their current style of presentation individually and in teams. Twenty-two executives from companies in Mysore attended the MDP for which the resource person was Dr Neetu Ganapathy. Dr Sunil M.V. the coordinator of the program was present. 

Prerana AGM 2018-19 Meet

The first Annual General Body Meeting of Prerana - SDMIMD Alumni Association was held on Friday, June 14, 2019, at Ballal Residency, Bangalore. Delivering the presidential address, the Chairman of the Association Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, called upon SDMites for a grand year-long celebration of 25 Years of Institute inception and discussed the roadmap for Prerana. Earlier, Mr Niranjan Naik, Secretary, welcomed the gathering, followed by a demonstration of the Prerana website by Executive Committee Member Mr Madan. Mr Arun Padaki, President - Prerana thanked the gathering. 

FDP on Communicating Effectively in the Classroom: Communication Skills for Teachers

A one-day FDP on "Communicating Effectively in the Classroom: Communication Skills for Teachers" was held on June 13, 2019, at SDMIMD. The FDP focused on understanding the barriers to communicating effectively in the classroom and discussed the techniques to overcome the same. The importance of a teacher as a leader in the classroom and the impact they can have on students was emphasized. The changing role of a teacher in the 21st century was discussed.

Topics such as verbal and non-verbal communication, managing time and the need to design effective visuals to sustain interest were highlighted.

Thirty-one faculty from SDM MMK College for Women attended the FDP for which the resource person was Dr Neetu Ganapathy. Dr M.V. Sunil the coordinator of the program was present.
