CEO on Campus - Mr. Balagopal

SDMIMD students got the opportunity to hear Mr. C. Balagopal , a beaurocrat turned entrepreneur . In his special lecture organized on August 8, 2016, he gave several interesting tips to the students. Mr. Balagopal mentioned about the strengths and weaknesses of the present educational system, and asked the students not to be afraid to make mistakes. He suggested that students should try something new and involve in trial and error experience. This would enable new ventures and new products. Mr. Balagopal also asked to learn about conveying bad news, particularly in an organization when reporting to the higher ups. His advice was to keep trying and then succeed. The session was very useful to the students.

Guest talk by Mr. Kalyan Chakarvarthy

Mr. Chakravarthy Kalyan, Senior Manager, N. Ranga Rao & Sons Pvt Ltd. visited SDMIMD on 8 August 2016.  He shared his experiences in Marketing with 2nd year students. He spoke about his journey in Ranga Rao & Sons Pvt Ltd since 1999 and the lessons he learnt while working in the Sales vertical. He stressed upon the importance of understanding the retail dynamics to be successful. Being the alumnus of SDMIMD, he advised the students to be passionate about their chosen field and work hard to achieve the goals.

Talk on Digital Marketing, Big Data and Analytics

Mr. Bhaskar Kalale, Senior Vice President, India Operations, Theorem Inc., and his associate, Mr. Ashok Srinivas, delivered invited talk on topic Digital Marketing, Big Data and Analytics, on August 2, 2016. The talk pointed out the differences between the traditional channels and the digital channels of analytics. The speakers emphasised on - big data, being Volume, Velocity, Veracity, and Variety.

LIFE at School by SDMites

SDMites have taken a socially responsible initiative to gift a library to the young minds of Government Adarsha Vidyalaya (High School) in Jockey Quarters, Mysore. The 'Library Initiative For Education at School' in short 'LIFE at School' has team comprising of Ms. Shushma Chengappa, Mr. Narendran V and Mr. B. Chiranjeevi from PGDM 2015-17 and Mr. Anil Ram Adya, Mr. Sanjeev, Ms. Sanjana, Ms. Nayana Singh, Ms. Swetha, Ms. Pooja, Mr. Priyesh, and Ms. Meghana from PGDM 2016-17 started this initiative.
 
The initiative kick-off on Monday, August 1, 2016, by collecting and moving 1300+ books donated by Ramakrishna Vidyashala, Mysuru to this initiative. The team started classifying the books.
 
‘Art of Reading Newspaper’ was the session conducted by the team to Class IX on August 1, 2016. The activity based session was well received by the young minds and enjoyed the joy of learning as well.
 
This initiative is spearheaded by Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director and Dr. Sunil M.V., Librarian of SDMIMD.

Interactive Session on HR Strategies

It was an experiential sharing for an HR Professional and great learning for HR specialization SDMites of PGDM 2015-17 batch on Saturday, July 30, 2016. The interactive session on ‘HR Strategies’ lead by Mr. Praveen Kamath, General Manager - Human Resources, Wipro Limited. The discussion covered recruitment career options for HR, Succession planning, Role of an OD practitioner, Changing Performance Culture, Organizational dynamics in the context of emerging countries.  The session concluded with Q&A and discussions on the topics covered.

Workshop on Public Speaking and Presentation Skills

Considering that public speaking is one of the most important skills for educators, which is put to test each day, a one-day workshop on Public Speaking and Presentation Skills was organzied for educators on July 29, 2016 at SDMIMD. Participants were taken through sessions that enabled them to understand the mechanics of speaking. Dr. Neetu Ganapathy resource person of the workshop provided inputs on how to sustain interest and how to effectively handle questions. The workshop was well received by the participants. Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director of the institute inaugurated the workshop. Prof. Malathi Sriram, Coordinator of the workshop welcomed the participants.

MDP on Managing Difficult Customers

A one-day Management Development Program (MDP) on Managing Difficult Customers was held at SDMIMD on July 27, 2016. In the workshop the sessions were conducted on the role of perception and personality in handling customers. The resource persons were Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, and Prof. R. Sugant, faculty of SDMIMD. They discussed tools such as emotional intelligence in dealing with difficult customers in the sessions. 
The program provided invaluable learning to the participants on areas like role of self in managing difficult customers, needs of difficult customers, steps involved in complaint handling etc. The activity-based workshop drew wide participation from industries in Mysuru and Nanjangud. The participants felt enriched and empowered by the workshop and opined that the workshop will help immensely in their future interaction with customers.
 
Earlier Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD delivered the welcome address and Prof. Malathi Sriram, Coordinator of the Program introduced the resource persons and presented the theme of the program.

Singapore Conference 2016

The Eighth Asia-Pacific Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Banking was organized at Singapore during July 21-23, 2016 jointly by SDMIMD, Mysore and J.A. Alpha Business Research & Publishers. The theme of the conference ‘Corporate Governance - Shaping the Future through Transparency and Ethical Behavior’ attracted academic and corporate nominations across the globe. 
 
Prof. A. Seetharaman, Dean, Academic Affairs, S.P. Jain School of Global Management - Dubai, Singapore, Sydney, inaugurated the conference and delivered the keynote address.
