2-Day FDP on Teaching Methodology

 
A 2-Day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 'Teaching Methodology' was organized during December 6 & 7, 2018 at MDP Hall, SDMIMD. The sessions were planned for the faculty members from undergraduates and post-graduate colleges. The program was inaugurated by Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, on December 6, 2018, at MDP Hall, SDMIMD. 
 
The 2-Day program commenced with the session on 'Course Outlines and Planning for Sessions' by Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Professor - Operations, SDMIMD; followed by the session on 'Teaching Marketing' delivered by Dr. H. Gayathri, Dean Academics and Professor - Marketing, SDMIMD.
 
The post-lunch session by Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Faculty - Communication and Systems, presented the session on 'Teaching Business Communication'; the approach to teaching finance was presented by Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director and Professor - Finance, during the session 'Know Finance'; the 'Case Method Teaching and Analysis' was deliberated by Prof. Rajendra Todalbagi, Faculty - Operations, SDMIMD. 
 
The Day-2 commenced with the session by Prof. M. Minhaj, Faculty - Systems, SDMIMD on Introduction to Analytics and Use of Technology in Teaching'; this was followed by the session by Dr. Mousumi Sengupta and Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor(s) in the area of HR / OB, on 'Teaching HRM'. The post-lunch session commenced with the art of 'Teaching Strategy with a Case Study' approach by Dr. (Lt.Col). S.N. Prasad, Professor - Strategy and General Management, SDMIMD; the concluding session on 'Teaching Quantitative Techniques' was presented by Dr. Srilakshminarayana, Faculty - Statistics, SDMIMD. 

24th Annual SDMIMD Convocation

On completion of the two-year learning process, the students of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) of Batch 2017-19 will be receiving the degree during the 24th Annual Convocation. This dream day will be on Friday, March 29, 2019. Shri. Kamal Bali, Managing Director of Volvo India, Volvo Buses India Private Limited, will be the Chief Guest of this academic grandeur and will deliver the Keynote Address. Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Chairman, SDMIMD will preside over the function. Eminent personalities from academic and corporate world are going to be invited to join the SDMIMD family in honouring the student in this awarding ceremony.
 
About the Chief Guest:
 
Mr. Kamal Bali has been the Managing Director of Volvo India at Volvo Buses India Private Limited since April 2014. Mr. Bali served as the President at LeeBoy India Construction Equipment Private Limited; Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Escorts Construction Equipment Ltd; and, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Same Deutz-Fahr India; since January 2007.  Earlier he has served as an Executive Director of Escorts Construction Equipment Ltd. Mr. Bali has 28 years of Chief Executive industry experience. He is an engineering graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade releases Dr.NRP's book

The second edition of Dr. N.R. Parasuraman's book 'Financial Management - A step-by-step Approach' was released by Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Chairman, SDMIMD and Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala during his visit to SDMIMD. Based on the excellent response to the 1st edition, the second edition has been revised with additional problems, and a support App. The book is published by Cengage Learning.

4th International Conference on Economic Growth and Sustainable Development

 
The 4th International Conference on “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends” was organised by SDMIMD on November 23-24, 2018. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. R Balasubramaniam, Founder & Chairman, GRAAM, Mysore. In his keynote address, he drew up the threats and challenges to sustainable development and opined that, ecological crisis, societal crisis and crisis of self are the barriers to inclusive sustainability. He strongly argued that sustainable development cannot be achieved only with economic development. According to him, development should not be defined only from the growth of GDP, rather it has to be looked from the perspective of human capital. SDMIMD Director, Dr.N.R.Parasuraman elucidated the brewing economic turmoil and inconsistent growth across the world. He also expressed his concerns on under development of financial instruments in the Indian market like derivatives, hedge equities which has led to under development of the economy. Dr.B. Venkatraja, Conference Chairperson briefed on the theme and delivered the vote of thanks. 
 
The two days event had four technical sessions by expert speakers. Mr. Maheshwer Peri, Chairman, Career360, delivered talk on India’s demographic dividend. Ms.Lekshmi Bhargavi, Vice President-HR, Fusion Microfinance, threw light on the challenges of talent acquisition in the microfinance sector. Mr. Easwara Narayanan, former Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Future Generali India Insurance Company Ltd delivered a talk on the trends and predicted future of general insurance industry in India. Mr.R.C.Jagadesh, Director- Director- Global Industry Team, Klueber Lubrication India Pvt. Ltd emphasised that cultural sustainability is the key to organisational sustainability, and environmental sustainability is the key to sustainable development.  
 
Dr.Ashly Pinnington, Dean-Research, British University Dubai, in his talk as the Distinguished Speaker to the Valedictory session reflected on the challenges of achieving and maintaining consensus on soft regulation developed in contexts that have important social and environmental implications for economic growth and sustainability. Dr.M.S.Sriram, Visiting Professor-IIM Bangalore & Distinguished Fellow at IDRBT- RBI was the Valedictory Speaker to the conference. In his valedictory address, Dr.Sriram raised concern over the widening wealth gap in the society, which is the major threat to the major threat to the growth sustainability. The valedictory session was presided over by Dr.R.Jagadeesh, Professor, SDMIMD. Dr.B. Venkatraja, Conference Chairperson delivered the vote of thanks.
 
The conference deliberated on 157 research papers relating to various emerging trends of growth and sustainability across two days. The conference was attended by more than 200 delegates from India and abroad.  

Pre-Conference Workshop on 'Micro Finance for Macro Development'

 
SDMIMD had organised a one-day Pre-Conference Workshop on ‘Micro Finance for Macro Development’ on November 22, 2018. This was a part of 4th International Conference on Economic Growth and Sustainable Development. 
 
Mr. Udaya Kumar, MD & CEO, Grameen Financial Services inaugurated the workshop and delivered the keynote talk. He said that “India still has a large population that belongs to the bottom of the pyramid and inclusion does not mean having a bank account, but it has more to do with a wide range of financial services and security such as insurance, health care, education, it is beyond that. Microfinance industry is indispensable for a country like India because it caters to a large set of people who are at the bottom of the pyramid. This industry is aiding the economic growth of the Nation by catering to a humongous population that is unserved or unserved”.  
 
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, presided over the inaugural session and emphasised the need for result oriented research on various verticals of microfinance. 
 
Mr. V.N. Salimath, Chairman, Initiatives for Development Foundation (IDF) delivered a session on 'BC Model of Micro Financing & its Sustainability'. He also spoke about farmer vulnerabilities and the functioning of Farmer Producer Company (FPC). 
 
Dr.S.N.Prasad, Professor-SDMIMD Mysore discussed the various dimensions of the ground level issues associated with the functioning of microfinance in Indian context.  
 
Dr. Annapurna Neti, Faculty, Azim Premji University delivered lecture on the “State of Microinsurance in India”.  She emphasised on the need for good predictability of the income and insulate against the risk through insurance accordingly. 
 
The workshop did deliberate on “Nexus between Micro Credit and Sustainability: Unravelling the Research Perspectives” through a panel discussion. The consisted of: Mr. William D’ Souza, Vice-Chairman, Sanghamithra Rural Financial Services, Dr. R. Indira, President, Indian Sociological Society, and Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mysore. The panel was moderated by Dr. M.R. Suresh Professor-Marketing, SDMIMD, Mysore. The discussions led to unveiling of the areas of research requirements. It was felt that financial, social, institutional, and economic perspectives of microfinance need rigorous research to facilitate MFIs’ decision making and government’s policy making.
