Second Annual Conference on Emerging Trends in Marketing

The second edition of Conference on Emerging Trends in Marketing on ‘Marketing in Turbulence Time’ was held on October 28, 2016 at SDMIMD. Mr. V. Neeraj Kumar, CEO, Edutain Learning Systems, delivered the keynote address during the inaugural session. Mr. Neeraj Kumar started by elucidating on what today’s customers look for – “easy, now and enjoy”, highlighting the trends that are likely to impact marketing which includes Fantasy Adventure, Cocooning (Products & Services to Customer doorstep), Customer Vigilante, Down Ageing, Small Indulgence and Being Alive. Mr. Neeraj Kumar emphasised that to be trend agnostic, the organisation has to focus on customer delight which can be enabled through big data & data analytics; and, marketing in turbulent times is possible only by winning the trust of customers. Highlighting the importance of customer in his address he said ‘winning companies are those who can convert the customers’ wants to needs and delight the customers in the processes. In his address, Mr. Neeraj Kumar talked about how social media and guerrilla marketing can help businesses enhance their marketing intelligence.
 
Earlier Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, addressed the gathering and highlighted the activities and initiatives of the institute in academic endeavour. Conference Chair Prof. S. Jayakrishnan, welcomed the gathering, and Prof. R. Sugant, Conference Co-Chair, proposed the vote of thanks. 
 
The conference attracted more than 30 papers on the theme from both academic and corporate world. The deliberations which was happened in multiple track sessions discussed on the conference theme. The invited talk by Prof. Randy and valedictory address by Dr. M.R. Suresh, Professor – Marketing, SDMIMD, Mysuru, were part of the conference schedule.

EFMD Accreditation Team Visit

As a part of the accreditation process, a peer review team from EFMD visited the Institute. The team consisted of  Prof. Jean-Noel Ezingeard, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Manchester metropolitan University (MMU); Prof. Kulwant Singh, Deputy Dean, Professor, National University of Singapore - Business School; Dr. R. Sesha Iyer, Professor and Adviser to the Dean, SPJMR; and, Prof. Alexandra Benz, from France. They visited SDMIMD during October 17 to 19, 2016. 

Business Standard Quiz Competition

The Business Standard group conducted the Quiz Competition for SDMites of PGDM 2016-18 batch on October 14, 2016. Mr. Tushar Solanki,  Mr. Ishan Kappor and Mr. Vishak emerged as Top 3 winners of the quiz. The winners will be participating in the final round scheduled in December 2016 at Banaglore. Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director, SDMIMD, distributed the medals and certificate to the winners. 

Young Managers from China Visited SDMIMD on Exchange Program

A team of 16 MBA students from Shanghai University, China, were at SDMIMD during October 3 to 7, 2016, on a week-long Exchange Program as a part of the International tie up arrangement. The young managers were led by Ms. Ai Lina from partnering university. 
 
To make the visit enriching and learning experience a lecture series was organized by experts from industries. The series included talks on leadership dimensions, managerial communication, international business, business negotiation and business analytics.   
 
Further,.they got a hands-on experience about social responsiblility and rural development during their visit to SKDRDP (Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project); Asha Kirana Charitable Trust and Hospital; and other NGO’s.
 
Tthe visiting students started their day with a one-hour ‘Yoga and Wellness’ program, which was enjoyed by the students. The students had an opportunity to get introduced to the history, culture, art, architecture and heritage of India, in general, Mysore, in particular, as a part of cultural immersion activity. Social interaction and sightseeing were part of the itinerary. 
 
The week-long engaging activity also included industry visits, interaction with corporate leaders, and project presentations.

Abhigyaan 2016

The 6th edition of the 2-Day Annual Management Fest for Undergraduate students Abhigyaan 2016 was organized on October 3 & 4, 2016 by SDMites. Samprathi - the SDMites team spear headed the event said ‘this edition of Abhigyaan primarily aimed at providing a platform and exposure to the undergraduate students. 338 students from different colleges across the state participated in the 6 events in Abhigyaan designed to assess their managerial skills’. 
 
The students from SDM College for Business Management, Mangalore, emerged as overall champions. The Champions won First Prize in the marketing event; Mr. Hrishikesh R.K. from the winning team emerged as the Best Manager event; and won 2nd prize in HR Event. “Through the Lens” the photography event was captured by students from Vidyavardhaka College, Mysore. The young managers from Vidyaashram, Mysore team won the HR Event HRendezvouz and the marketing event Mark-emptor. The students from SDM Degree College, Ujire, showcased their talent in Street Play event and won First place. 

Exchange Program visit of Dr. Neetu Ganapathy to Shanghai University

    
Dr. Neetu Ganapathy was invited by the Shanghai University in Shanghai, China to teach a course on Cross-Border Managerial Communication between September 3, 2016 and September 11, 2016. The course was part of the curriculum of the Global Local MBA program and was attended by 31 participants from across China and Spain.  
 
Considering the diversity in today's workplace, the course aimed at sensitizing managers to the need to be aware of the differences that exist between people from different cultures. It focussed on helping managers to understand the need to develop cross-cultural communication competence, get to know other cultures, use the right verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, develop a cross-cultural adaptation strategy and negotiate on cross-cultural teams. The pedagogy comprised of lectures, case discussions and role plays.

Entrepreneurship Talk by Ms Akshra Kumar

‘E-cell Swayam’ had organized an entrepreneurship talk on the Preparation of a Business Plan and Related Strategies for a Start-up by Ms. Akshara Kumar, founder-Truly Essential (Chaitanya Agro Herbals), Mysore; and Chapter Co Chair, Young Indians (Mysuru Chapter) on October 13, 2016 in the Institute Auditorium. 
 
Ms. Akshara in her talk introduced the basics of business plans, emphasizing on how to relate the business with forming any business plan. She touched upon product strategies, value proposition, and customer relationships. Further, Ms. Akshara explained about how customer relationship is important for any business in the world, and elaborated on strategies for customer acquisition, customer retention & boosting sales, to increase customer base.
 
The speaker concluded the session by saying, “at the starting or launching of any idea ‘YOU’ are the most important thing, so one must believe in oneself”.

SDMIMD Garden won 4 Prizes in Dasara 2016

SDMIMD is known for its architectural beauty, which has won Archi Design Award for Excellence for Best Institutional Building Design. The lush Green Garden is equally famous  and has been winning the Best Institutional Garden award consistently from 2006 in Mysuru Dasara Garden Competition organized by the Horticulture Department, Government of Karnataka; and District Horticulture Society. 
 
SDMIMD’s garden has again kept its promise and won three first prizes (Ornamental Outdoor Plants, Lawns, and, Indoor Plants – Category) and second prize in Fruit Plants Category, in Mysuru Dasara 2016.
