SDMIMD Garden won 4 Prizes in Dasara 2016

SDMIMD is known for its architectural beauty, which has won Archi Design Award for Excellence for Best Institutional Building Design. The lush Green Garden is equally famous  and has been winning the Best Institutional Garden award consistently from 2006 in Mysuru Dasara Garden Competition organized by the Horticulture Department, Government of Karnataka; and District Horticulture Society. 
 
SDMIMD’s garden has again kept its promise and won three first prizes (Ornamental Outdoor Plants, Lawns, and, Indoor Plants – Category) and second prize in Fruit Plants Category, in Mysuru Dasara 2016.

Saraswathi Pooja Celebration

For SDMites, Mysore Dasara is special and a rich experience. The festival changes the monotonous way of life, makes it more colourful with many exciting things to look forward to. It is this spirit that makes the festival so special. The Durga and Saraswathi Pooja are important events of Dasara festivities. 
 
SDMites organized Saraswati Pooja at SDMIMD Library to pray to the Goddess of Knowledge. The devotional Carnatic song rendered by Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, our Director was the highlight of the Pooja celebration.

Workshop on Business Analytics

SDMIMD in collaboration with ESC Pau Business School, France, organised a 3-Day Workshop on Business Analytics for the students of SDMIMD during October 3-5, 2016.  The workshop brought in perspectives on international and interdisciplinary dimensions to the elective course ‘Business Intelligence’ in PGDM Program. Dr. Lee Schlenker, Professor of Information Systems at the ESC Pau Business School, France, was the resource person, and it was coordinated by Prof. Mohamed Minhaj from SDMIMD. Apart from discussions on working in the Digital Economy and transforming data into Business Intelligence for effective business decisions, the workshop also exposed the participants to Visual Analytics using SAS, which is an analytics platform widely used by the corporate world. 

Talk on CII Young Indians (YI) - YUVA

Mr. Utsav Agarwal, Director of Bhoruka Aluminum Limited and Representative from Young Indians (YI), the chapter of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) introduced Young Indians chapter and YUVA platform to SDMites of PGDM 2016-18 batch on September 29, 2016. Mr. Agarwal motivational talk started with leadership, qualities that a leader should possess and focused on Nation building. The instances and experiences shared by the speaker about how an individual can contribute towards Nation building was interesting. Mr. Utsav Agarwal also highlighted the various activities that Young Indians carries out through YUVA, which is a platform that Young Indians (YI) provide for students to enhance their leadership skills and to build corporate network. 

Guest Lecture by Mr. Sunil Subramaniam

Mr. Sunil Subramaniam, AVP-HR at Blue Ocean Market Intelligence delivered an invited talk on ‘People Analytics’ on September 17, 2016 at the Institute Auditorium. Mr. Subramaniam chose to keep the delivery interactive, discussed on tools used in analysing people with their social media profiles; and application of people analytics for better understanding of employees within an organization. This talk was organized by the Students Committee.
 
Mr. Subramaniam felt that  analytics should be driven by a futuristic approach, wherein companies are no longer looking into reporting past performance, but were instead more interested in the trends that were shaping the future of any industry. Addressing a question related to information security, Mr. Subramaniam responded that security, and privacy of data and information, was still a large looming concern for many organizations.

ACBSP Accreditation Team Visit

Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP) site visit team lead by Dr. Fara Zakery, Dean, Anheuser-Busch School of Business, Harris-Stowe State University, Missouri; Dr. Sujata Mangaraj, Dean, School of Management Studies, Ravenshaw University, India & Dr. Merlin Mythili Shanmugam, Associate Professor & PGDM Coordinator, Rajalakshmi School of Business, India  visited SDMIMD during September 18-21, 2016.

Convergence 3i: Industry-Institute-Interaction

Convergence 3i, an Industry Institute Interaction event organized jointly by SDMIMD and CII Mysore Chapter on September 16, 2016, attracted more than 200 final year degree students and fresh graduates in and around Mysore. Dr. N. Muthukumar, President of the CII, Mysore Chapter in his address stressed on need of right attitude and said, it key for securing employment in any organisation while skills can be taught.  Dr. Shrijay Devraj Urs, Executive Director, MYRA School of Business, the Chief Guest of the meet delivered the inaugural address on ‘Reducing the Gap between Learning and Application’. Dr. Urs said ‘creating world class facilities for educational services eventually produce world class students, who are employable anywhere’.
 
Earlier, Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director SDMIMD, gave introductory remarks. Earlier Prof. Prasad S.N., Chairman Admissions and event Coordinator, welcomed the gathering. Prof C.V. Sridhar presented the vote of thanks.
 
The inaugural session was followed by Panel Discussion on “The Changing Dimensions of Employer Expectations from Fresh Graduates”, moderated by Prof. Prasad S.N. Dr. B.M. Subraya, Mr B.G. Mohankrishna and Ms. Akshara Kumar- entrepreneurs and Mr. Gopalkrishna Sastry of Wuerth Electronics along with SDMIMD students Mr. Srikant Kadkol and Ms. Harshita Gakkhar were the panel members.   The discussion covered the key aspects of the dynamics of change in the job market over the past few years and how the students can equip themselves.

Seminar on ‘Microfinance and its future in India’

Mr. Vittal Rangan, was the resource person for the Seminar on Microfinance and its future in India held on September 16, 2016 at SDMIMD. Speaking on the topic of the seminar Mr. Vittal Rangan said there is need for behavioural changes in India to bring financial inclusion which is currently as low as 36% and young managers should be introduced to microfinance industry in their course curriculum and sensitizing on responsible financing and role of microfinance in remittances, to make the situation better.  
 
Sharing his personal experience and success stories in Ujjivan, Mr. Vittal focused his talk on the role of microfinance in financial inclusion and its importance in economic growth of India. He explained in detail about the difference between microfinance and commercial banks. The talk exposed students to several dimensions of microfinance industry in current scenario.
 
During Q&A session Mr. Vittal called upon the SDMites to question themselves about their expectations from life and make their career in the fields they are passionate about and not to give in to peer or parental pressure.
