VITTAKSH 2016
VITTAKASH - the annual flagship event from ‘FINNACLE’ – the SDMites Finance Club was held on November 22, 2016 at SDMIMD. ‘Indian Economy: Boom or Bubble’ was the theme for VITTAKASH ’16. A total 16 teams of 2 members each got selected for the final round from the first round of online quiz held on November 14, 2016. Students from the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Bengaluru, won the first prize of Rs. 20,000 and Mysore Royal Academy (MYRA) stood second with the cash Rs. 15,000.

SDMites Visit to Toyota Kirloskar Plant
Students of "Lean and Green Management" course had an opportunity to witness Lean and Green Management in action at Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Pvt. Ltd. (TKAP), Bidadi on the outskirts of Bangalore on November 19, 2016.

TKAP was established in 2002 and manufactures Axles & Shafts, Transmissions and Engines for Toyota vehicles. These power train subsystems are supplied to Toyota companies in India and globally. Read More>
Karnataka Rajyotsava Celebrations
Karnataka Rajyotsava was celebrated at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development, Mysore, on November 29, 2016. The event started with hoisting of the Kannada flag by the Director of the Institute, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman. Students sang the Kannada Naadageete ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya tanujaate’. A special lunch with unique dishes of Karnataka was served by the students of Karnataka to other 20 states students, faculty and staff members of the institute. Kannada songs were played in the campus.

In the evening, sports and cultural programs were organized. Traditional local games were introduced to other state students. Students from other states sang Kannada songs and danced to the tunes. Kabaddi match played between the staff and students’ teams and the ‘Folk dance’ performance were the highlights of the celebrations.

Workshop on Services Marketing
A Workshop of Services Marketing was organized on November 25, 2016 for the II year students of SDMIMD. Prof. Kasturi Rangan was the resource person for the workshop. Prof. Kasturi Rangan mainly focused on services in order to make student understand the importance of service design and to guide them how to look into minor details of services while designing on their journey of intrapreneurship and entrepreneurship.

The Customer Benefit Concept (CBC), CUA Model, Internal Marketing Orientation (IMO), Line of Visibility (LOV), Consumer behavior in service setting, Physical and psychological cost of the service, and, Continuum of product attributes, were the topics covered in the workshop. The students had a chance to apply the learning in an assignment on start-up idea in the service industry.

International Accreditation for PGDM Program
SDMIMD received the International accreditation from Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), USA, for the 2-Year Residential flagship programme – Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).

​Many experts in the field of management education feel that the performance of SDMIMD in its corporate interaction and placements, world class infrastructure, academic rigor and adherence to ethical values derived from the Dharmasthala Philosophy, paved the way for the international accreditation. The ACBSP accreditation will help to nurture young managers of our PGDM Program who are employable in global marketplace, equip students to solve multi-disciplinary problems with their leadership and decision making abilities​.

International Economics Conference (IEC) 2016
The 2nd International Economics Conference was held on November 18 & 19, 2016 on the overreaching theme of “Inclusive Economic Growth and Sustainable Development”. The Conference was inaugurated by Dr Kaliappa Kalirajan, Professor of Economics at Australian National University, Canberra. After formally inaugurating the conference, Prof. Kalirajan delivered the keynote address. His talk centred around Asia emerging as an economic power of the 21st century. Emphasising on the need for regional co-operation among the Asian countries, Dr.Kaliragan advocated that such co-operation would facilitate better trade relations, sharing of technological resources which in turn could help each other in becoming the economic powers of tomorrow.

Shri. Ashok Balaram, Senior Vice President, SysInformation while delivering his invited lecture, provided valuable insights on the role of health sector in the inclusive growth and sustainable development. Shri. Abhishek Ranjan, Global Head-CSR and Sustainability of Brillio Technology stressed that CSR is the mechanism towards sustainability and such practices should be implemented in all business processes which would help enhance operational efficiency, labour satisfaction, create a brand value and recognition and create a greener supply chain. Workshop on Social Responsibility and Sustainability
A one-day workshop on the theme of “Social Responsibility and Sustainability” was organised on November 17, 2016 preceding the 2nd International Economics conference at the Institute. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Kaliappa Kalirajan, Professor of Economics of Australian National University, and he followed up by delivering a session on the topic of the workshop. National Library Week Celebration
The SDMites celebrated National Library Week 2016 in a Government School where they have taken-up the responsibility of giving ‘School Library’ to the young minds. The essay and drawing competition on the theme ‘My School Library’ was organized for the high school children of Adarsha Vidyalaya, Jockey Quarters, Mysore.

SDMites initiative LIFE@ School (Library Initiative for Education at School) involves setting up and establishing a Library for the students of Adarsha Vidyalaya. They have planned to operationalize the active library during December 2016. To understand the expectations from the children this activity was conducted as a part of National Library Week celebration. The exhibition of most circulated Management Classics, AV materials and Harvard Collections at SDMIMD Library was part of the celebration during November 16 to 20, 2016 at SDMIMD.

Faculty Outreach Activities
Dr. R. Jagadeesh was a jury for the annual quality competition organized by M/s Rane Madras, Mysore, to decide the best projects done by (1) Quality Improvement Teams, and (2) Quality Control Circles. Six teams participated in each category and demonstrated quality improvement using 7 Step Quality Improvement Process.
Dr. R. Jagadeesh acted as an examiner to evaluate the Ph.D. thesis related to the work done on quality initiatives and awards, and submitted to Visveswaraya Technological University, (VTU), Karnataka.
Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta invited by International Journal of Sociology and Anthropology( IJSA) to become a reviewer for their journal. IJSA is part of the academic journals group based in Mauritius and Nigeria and publish 111 journals.
The paper ‘Impact of central explicit subsidies on fiscal deficit in India: an empirical study’ by Dr. B. Venkatraja, Professor – Economics, SDMIMD, has won the Best Paper Award at 5th International conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Social Sciences on the them ‘Global Business, Economics & Sustainability’ held during April 1 to 3, 2016 at Chennai.
