Gold medals awarded to PGDM 2018-20 batch

During the 26th Annual Convocation of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) held recently at the Institute Campus in Mysore, Gold medals were awarded for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management 2018-2020 Batch, apart from the honours to the currently passed out batch, held on April 2, 2021. 
 
It may be recalled that due to the corona pandemic, the 25th Annual convocation was not held last year. The event was planned to be held in March 2020. 
 
Gold medals for 2018-20 were given to the Six students for their excellent performance in academics by the Convocation Chief Guest Shri. T. R. Parasuraman, President and Whole time Director, Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt. Ltd. 
 
Ms. Juhi Prabhu was awarded the Chairman’s Distinguished Student Gold Medal for Best Academic Performance. Mr. Gagan Raj S.Y. secured the Ankur Gupta Memorial Alumni Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Finance. The Suman Narayan Memorial Alumni Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Human Resources Management; and Ankur Gupta Memorial Gold Medal for Best Overall Performance was awarded to Ms. Karshini Tyagarajan. The Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Marketing was secured by Mr. Agnimitra Das. Mr. Koushalendra Kumar secured the Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Operations. And the Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Systems was awarded to Ms. Javvadi Bhandhavi. 
 
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade in his presidential address said one of the greatest challenges in any B-school is to ascertain the relative level of quality on various parameters – curriculum, pedagogy, projects, evaluation, and overall preparation of students- compared to globally accepted standards.  
 
In his message to the graduating students, Dr. Heggade said there is no doubt that having the right frame of mind and temperament is an equally important attribute that they would need to succeed in their careers and life.  Special importance to the understanding of Indian ethos and values, side by side with excellence in conceptual understanding is the need of the hour. 
 
Speaking on the leadership qualities and success in business, Dr. Heggade opined highly successful people are not necessarily highly skilled, but they have high emotional intelligence. Today, business is faced with the need to identify its individual competence and competitive ability with international standards of excellence. 
 
Convocation Chief Guest Mr. T.R. Parasuraman, shared the scenario of manufacturing industry in India and quality aspects to be inculcated by the young managers both in personal and professional life with anecdotes from his experience with Toyota. 
 
Earlier, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director of the Institute presented the Annual Report stating the activities and achievements of the Institute in the academic year 2020-21. Dr. S. N. Prasad, Professor, SDMIMD rendered the Vote of Thanks.
 
The Governing Board Members of the Institute were present and graced the occasion.

Convergence 3i - Industry - Institute - Interface

The annual event of academics and industry interface - Convergence 3i was organized on March 16, 2021, The virtual event was kickstarted with the presentation on Mr Chandramouli, CEO, Feedback Insights on the topic 'Modern Workplace Culture'. The talk was followed by the Panel Discussion on " Expectations of the Employers from the Job Aspirants in the Post Covid Era". Mr Chandramouli, CEO of Feedback Insights, Mysore; Mr Kshitij Mathur and Ms Jyothsna D. from PGDM 2020-2022, were the panel members. Dr. Prasad S.N., Professor - Strategy, SDMIMD, moderated the panel discussion.

Startup Charcha 2021

Startup Charcha, 2021, culmination event of various entrepreneurship activities, was organized by SWAYAM - The eCell of SDMIMD on March 12, 2021. A panel discussion on “How Start-ups Succeed and Why they Fail?" was conducted as part of the event with Mr Saurabh Shah, Vice President, Idea Lemon Institute for Entrepreneurship, Nagpur; Mr R. Nataraj, PhD Scholar, SDMIMD; and, Ms Meghana R. PGDM Student, SDMIMD; as members. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Prasad S.N., Professor - Strategy, SDMIMD.

International Women's Day 2021

On March 8, 2021 SDMIMD organized a virtual panel discussion on “Women in Leadership”. Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, the moderator for the session, welcomed the gathering and emphasized how the pandemic had highlighted the central role that women play in society and the disproportionate burden that they bear. The Director, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, mentioned the efforts taken at SDMIMD to encourage girl students which includes making a conscious attempt to admit more girl students each year in addition to providing them with scholarships.

Budget Conclave 2021

SDMIMD in association with CII, Mysuru and Mysuru Chapter of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India jointly organized Union Budget Conclave 2021- Post Budget analysis through virtual mode on February 03, 2021.
 
The panellists comprising of Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mr. Amit Kumar, Chairman CII Mysuru, Mr. Pavan Ranga Vice Chairman, CII Mysuru, Mr. S. Ranganathan, Convener, CII Finance and Taxation Panel were unanimous in the opinion that the budget was growth oriented with more focus on healthcare, agricultural and rural development, and infrastructural development. According to them, there were few areas like education and defence where the focus of the budget was limited. The fiscal stimulus by the Government as suggested in the economic survey was factored in the budget through announcement of special packages and incentives on infrastructural development and impetus to ‘make in India’ as part of ‘Atmanirbar Bharath’.
 
Highlights and salient features of the Union Budget 2021 was well captured by the PGDM students of SDMIMD.
 
Mr. Ganesh Krishnamurthy, Mr. Sandesh Kumar and Mr. Faneel Shah, partners from PWC (Price Waterhouse Coopers) highlighted the salient features of the Union Budget with respect to direct and indirect taxations.
 
Dr. M. Sriram, Associate Professor-Finance, SDMIMD welcomed the gathering and briefed on the program and the budget. The session was moderated by Mr. Devanathan, Co-convener, finance and taxation panel, CII Mysuru who also proposed vote of thanks.

Participation in IRTM 2021 Conference

Ms. Shyamli Soundale of PGDM 2019-2021 participated and presented the paper 'Factors influencing customer satisfaction of wireless mobile services during the Covid-19 pandemic led lockdown' co-authored with the faculty members Dr. R. Sugant and Dr. G. Srilakshminarayana of SDMIMD, at the International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research in Technology and Management (IRTM 2021) organized by Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata and University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata during February 2021. 

Telangana Govt Grants to SDMite Best Idea

Mr. Rahul Raj of PGDM 2020-2022 presented the idea at the National Social Summit on the theme of 'Social Entrepreneurship Competition' organized by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Roorkee. The idea presented by Mr. Rahul Raj was selected as one of the Best Top 4 Ideas in the Competition. Telangana State Government has recognized the Idea of Mr. Rahul and granted 1.6 Lakhs to build prototypes.

ALT 2021 by Dr. Barry O'Mahony of Abu Dhabi University

SDMIMD organized the 12th edition of Annual Leadership Talk (ALT) 2021 on Thursday, February 11, 2021 on Virtual Mode. Prof. Barry O'Mahony, Dean, College of Business; and, Professor of Services Management, Abu Dhabi University, delivered the talk on the topic 'Future of Work-Creating Possibilities - Using Workplace Digitization'.
 
Dr. O’Mahony stressed that achieving customer satisfaction and to develop customer loyalty is the core in every service-oriented venture. Leadership styles and ability to manage things play vital role in this achievement.  emphasis on customer loyalty within the service sector has led to the development of the relationship marketing paradigm. Whilst relationships between buyers and sellers are complex, there are multiple models proffered by academics that contribute to an understanding of the determinants of relationship development.
 
With anecdotes from his experience in hotel industry and from his research, the speaker Recounted specific real-life incidents demonstrating multiple sides of what constitutes good customer satisfaction practices. 
 
Student event coordinator Ms. Sanjana Srinath welcomed the gathering and moderated the Question & Answer session. Mr. Hemanth Sharma gave a brief note on the significance & value addition created by the Annual Leadership Talks held year after year for both the academicians as well as the student community; and introduced the speaker of ALT 2021. Ms. Amrutha Anil rendered the invocation.
