‘SDMIMD, Mysore Becomes the First B-School in India to Bring AI in Business Management Classroom’

SDMIMD, the premier B School in Mysore, has taken a groundbreaking step by integrating AI into the Business Management classroom. On June 3rd, we inaugurated a comprehensive AI tool for the PGDM Batch 2023-25, in collaboration with the city-based start-up Academi-AI, co-founded by Pramodh BN and partners. This initiative is coordinated by Dr. Riyaz Ahmed, faculty at SDMIMD.
 
Academi-AI, our customized AI software, creates classroom audio transcripts, queries, and evaluates student responses based on faculty-set parameters. This interactive software enables both faculty and students to delegate repetitive tasks to AI, allowing them to focus on qualitative work, innovation, and improvisation.
 
The inaugural event featured esteemed guests, including Dr. Mahesh Rao, President of TiE Mysore Chapter, Dr. Dharmaprasad, Founder & MD of Prosetta Bioinformatics and Convener of CII-Industry Institute Panel, Dr. (Lt Col) Prasad SN, Director SDMIMD, and Mr. Pramodh BN of Academi-AI. Dr. Prasad highlighted the long-term goals of this initiative, emphasizing its potential to enhance faculty quality, student learning, and outcome measurement. Dr. Mahesh Rao shared his project leadership experience with IBM, USA during the initial development stages of AI, and Dr. Dharmaprasad commended the students and faculty for embracing technology on their path to excellence.
 
Dr. Vasumathy HS welcomed the gathering, and Dr. Anand Sasikumar delivered the vote of thanks. The event was graced by SDMIMD students, faculty, and staff.

SDMIMD Awarded “Diamond Rating” by QS-IGauge

SDMIMD, the premier B-school in Mysuru has been awarded Diamond Rating from QS Gauge, the Indian arm of the QS World Rankings (Quacarelly Symonds, UK) which assesses colleges and universities based on quality parameters. In the core parameters of Teaching and learning, Faculty quality, Student Employability, Facilities, Governance and Structure, SDMIMD has scored the highest level of Platinum rating. This reflects the SDMIMD’s improving standards, dedication in imparting quality education, and preparing the future generations in leading the corporate world. 
 
Dr. S.N Prasad, the Director of the Institute states that this is a collective achievement by the Faculty, Staff, students.  Dr. Srilakshminarayana G, Associate Professor is the faculty coordinator for the QS IGauge audit process. 

One-day Faculty Development Programme on “Innovative Teaching Methods”

On May 31, 2024, SDMIMD, Mysore, successfully conducted a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Innovative Teaching Methods." The program attracted academicians from across India, with all participants actively engaging in this hands-on event. Dr. SN Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, inaugurated the FDP, emphasizing the importance of innovative teaching methods that leverage creativity and modern tools for effective knowledge impartation. Dr. Nanda Kishore Shetty, the FDP/MDP Chairperson, supervised the event. The sessions were led by esteemed faculty members of SDMIMD. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta conducted sessions on the background, types, and methodologies of innovative teaching methods, as well as on role play and case study methods. Dr. Sunil MV led sessions on the introduction to artificial intelligence, designing AI-based student assignments, and developing AI policies and assessment methods. The FDP received high praise from participants, who expressed their gratitude and provided positive feedback.

FDP on Leveraging AI for Teaching and Research

A Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Leveraging AI for Teaching and Research” was successfully conducted on April 19, 2024, at SDMIMD, Mysore, in a hybrid mode. The program attracted academicians and research scholars from India and abroad, all actively participating in this hands-on FDP.
 
The faculty resource persons of SDMIMD, Dr. Sunil MV and Dr. Mamta Hegde, conducted various sessions during this one-day FDP, as mentioned below:
Session 1: AI in pedagogy and curriculum design.
Session 2: AI tools for enhancing student productivity.
Session 3: Ethical considerations in AI for education and research.
Session 4: Enhancing research reporting and publication through AI.
 
The FDP on “Leveraging AI for Teaching and Research” received high praise from all participants, who expressed their gratitude and provided positive feedback.

Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Innovative Teaching Methods - May 31, 2024

The pedagogy of the teaching-learning environment has experienced significant changes over time, keeping the ever-changing business scenario. Today, imparting knowledge with the help of creativity and innovative tools, facilitated by behavioural and technological interventions, has become the order of the day. On one hand, these innovative instructional strategies facilitate more enjoyable learning environments and on the other, the trainers and faculty members get the opportunity to create a more hands-on learning environment in the class. This FDP aims to bring insight into certain innovative teaching methods, by using hands-on experiences, which faculty members may incorporate during their sessions, irrespective of the subjects they are handling.

  1. To introduce the design and customization of teaching approaches suiting student needs.
  2. To present new and innovative ways of engaging students in the classroom.
  3. To identify and apply new technology that will improve the ability of class projects, assignments and to presentation of ideas.
  4. To share the use of new teaching strategies to make classes more lively, interactive, and interesting.

  • The program is intended to provide faculty with an idea about the case method of teaching. It also equips participants with how to handle the case discussion session and enhances its effectiveness.
  • Designing role play and group activities will be introduced so that teachers and students can make the best out of this teaching methodology.
  • Hands-on sessions on the use of Artificial Intelligence tools in preparation for class projects, assignments and presentations will be covered as part of the technology adoption.
  • Introducing the conceptual framework to design a course for making the students socially responsible, socially relevant and socially inclusive. With a case study of ‘Social Enterprise Research’.

Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, a seasoned academic, holds a PhD from IIT Kharagpur and a Master's in HRM from Thames Valley University. She is an Ex-Chairperson of SDM RCMS at SDMIMD, with over 20 years of experience in OB and HRM. Dr. Mousumi has authored books, won awards, and mentored at various esteemed institutions globally. She is a registered PhD guide at University of Mysore, with a track record of presenting papers and training for public and private sector companies. Dr. Mousumi was honored as the Best Professor in Human Resources Management by the Asia Pacific HRM Congress in 2022.

Dr. Sunil M.V., specializing in Systems and General Management, former Head of Academic Administration and former Co-ordinator for SDM Research Centre for Management Studies (SDM RCMS). He is a Certified professional from American Library Association (ALA) and IIM Bangalore. Dr. Sunil's intellectual contributions extend beyond the classroom. He has authored papers featured in reputable journals, conferences, book chapters & online course materials, further enriching academic discourse.
