3rd Annual Convocation of the PGCM Program

Speaking on the occasion of the Convocation of the 1-year PGCM program held on February 24, 2023, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, alluded to the popularity of 1-year program in management in Europe and how these have a different orientation, like the just concluded PGCM.
 
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, awarded the PGCM certificates to the eligible candidate and delivered the convocation address. Presenting the concluding remarks, Deputy Director, Dr S.N. Prasad, said 'SDMIMD have put together a curriculum and pedagogy for this 1-year program which differentiates itself from the 2-year program and yet retains the basic tenets of the Dharmasthala ethos – excellence blended with high values'.
 
Ms Prakruthi Bharadwaj received the gold medal for her Best Overall Performance from the Director.

Heilbronn University Students and faculty visit SDMIMD

Faculty and 15 Students from Heilbronn University, Germany led by Dr. Susanne Wilpers, Professor of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Business and Transport Management, Heilbronn University, Germany, and Program Coordinator Ms Debi  arrived at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD). SDMIMD had arrangements with Heilbronn university for student and faculty exchange. They have visited the SDMIMD from 21 February 2023 to 28 February 2023.

Pratigam 2023 - SDMites Coming back Home

On campus, the SDMIMD alumni members' annual meet Pratigam was organized on February 25, 2023. The event was a great success and witnessed active participation from both alumni and current students. 
 
The Pratigam 2023 was inaugurated by the Director, Dr N.R. Parasurman, who addressed the gathering. Dr Parasuraman spoke about the importance of alumni engagement and how it contributes to the growth and success of the institute. Mr Niranjan Naik, President of the Prerana SDMIMD Alumni Association, shared about various activities that the Alumni Association did during the past year. Deputy Director Dr Prasad S.N. stressed the importance of meaningful engagement with the alumni and suggested forming an Alumni Placement Coordination team to assist with college placements.
 
The event began with the Annual General Body Meet (AGM) of Prerana - SDMIMD Alumni Association. It was followed by panel discussions for the students on the PGDM Batch 2022-24. The panel discussed the summer internship assignment, the selection of electives and the preparation for placements. 
 
The post-lunch session was the interaction by alumni with various student committees. The alumni then participated in events organized by student clubs and committees, followed by the box cricket tournament and fun games organized by the committees. 
 
The cultural performance by students and alumni and a short speech on "AI - how it's changing the industry landscape" by Distinguished Alumni Award Winner for 2022, Mr N. Ravi Shankar, concluded the celebration of Pratigam 2023. 

Startup Charcha 2023

Startup Charcha 2023, the culmination event of various entrepreneurship activities, was organised by Swayam, the eCell of SDMIMD, on February 13, 2022. Mr. Krishna Kumar, Founder and MD, Simbus Technologies Pvt. Ltd., delivered the key note address, which was followed by a panel discussion with a theme “Mainstream Entrepreneurship”. The panels consisted of Mr. Karthik B K, Alumnus of SDMIMD, Managing Partner, Moneyline, Mr. Theja Mohan, Alumnus of SDMIMD, Founder, Wise Money, Dr. Nanda Kishore Shetty, Associate Professor-Marketing, SDMIMD, Mr. Vijay Krishnamurthy, Research scholar, SDMIMD and Sports Entrepreneur. Dr. M.R. Suresh, Professor-Marketing and Faculty Coordinator, E cell, moderated the discussion.

European Business Analytics Institute’s Winter School on AI for Good held at SDMIMD

Business Analytics Institute, headquartered in France, conducted its  Winter School at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysuru, from 1 to  10 Feb 2023 at SDMIMD campus. The programme was attended by company executives and students selected from various European Universities. Besides students from Belgium, Switzerland, France and Ukraine, ten Indian Students from SDMIMD were selected to attend the programme. The programme centred on the theme of “AI for Good”, entailed discussions on Ethical AI, AI for Social Good and a workshop on Machine Learning Tools. As part of this programme, the participants visited Dharmasthala and interacted with Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari, about Rural Development, Micro Finance, and Health Care Programmes of SDM Trust. The participants of the programme developed use cases for leveraging AI to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Healthcare, Education and Rural Development. The resource persons for the programme included Dr Lee Schlenker and Prof. Davy Cielen from Business Analytics Institute, Prof. Christian Hitz from Zurich University and Prof. Mohamed Minhaj from SDMIMD, Mysuru.

‘AI for Good’ Invited talk by Prof. Davy Cielen

‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot replace roles but rather create a need for a newer set of skills in the new paradigm. The application of AI in medicine, education, manufacturing, analytics and other areas has proved that AI and its various applications have the potential to bring out positive change in society. AI will never be able to replace jobs that require empathy, creativity, intuition, and compassion. These are human traits that machines are incapable of replicating,’ thus said Prof. Davy Cielen, a co-founder of the Maiton Consulting Group, London. SDMIMD organized the invited talk on February 9, 2023.
 
The speaker presented various tools such as Dalle2, MID Journey, Chat GPT, and Digital Humans that make AI more accessible to the public. Further, Prof. Cielen explained the three stages of AI - Narrow AI, General AI, and Super AI - and highlighted that transfer learning requires much less cost than before.
 
The talk, followed by the Q&A, provided valuable insights into the current state of AI and its potential for the future.

Annual Leadership Talk 2023

“Humans alone can define value and values.  Hence, it is important to keep the human in the loop.” said Dr. Lee Schlenker Professor of Business Analytics and Principal Consultant, Business Analytics Institute, France. He was speaking on the topic “Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Good” at the 14th Edition of the Annual Leadership Talk (ALT) organized by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) Mysore on its campus on February 8, 2023.
 
In his address to the students, Dr. Schlenker highlighted the use of AI for social good and ethical AI. He differentiated between Machine Learning and AI, spoke about what it means to be human and why it is important for humans to take the lead. While Machine Learning and AI have the end goal of improving decision making and proposing an optimal solution respectively, it is how we use it that matters. He said that in today’s world, the capacity for human agency is being challenged by machines. He urged the audience to not give in to conversational AI tools like ChatGPT and to use their ability to think and act independently. 
 
Earlier, Dr. S.N. Prasad, Deputy Director, SDMIMD, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Faculty of Business Communication and Information Systems moderated the Q&A session and presented a vote of thanks while Ms. Mahima compered the event. Dr. Sunil M.V., Head of Academic Administration, faculty members, students, staff and invited guests were present during the event. 

Talk by Dr Christian Hitz

'Advancement in technology for social well-being is always a Wah Factor, and today it is Artificial Intelligence (AI); in the next few years, it will be much-evolved technology. Effective Data Management can best optimize these technological innovations' thus said Dr Christian Hitz, Senior Lecturer and Director of Studies in Data Science at Zurich University of Applied Sciences. Dr Christian delivered the invited talk on the topic 'Future of AI' at SDMIMD on February 7, 2023.. Dr Christian expressed that new business models are being developed for leveraging the power of AI. However efficient data management and governance frameworks are crucial in organisations for reducing the complexity involved in the decision-making process.
