Panel Discussion on “Sustainability & Business Economy”

As a part of the 5th International Economics Conference-2019 on the theme of “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends” held on November 15-16, 2019 a panel discussion was organized. The topic of the was ‘Sustainability & Business Economy’. Dr. Gavin Melles, Professor of Sustainability, Swinburne University, Australia, Dr. Rajagopal R, Founder & CEO, KnowGenix, Mumbai and Ms. Jyotsna Belliappa, Head- CSR Assurance at BlueSky were the expert panel speakers. The panelists highlighted that the Indian corporates possess adequate knowledge about sustainability and CSR, but they also need to invest in their systems and people. The transformation of CSR from a philanthropic perspective to a sustainability was also discussed and the panelists opined that CSR should be more from a humanitarian perspective than a business practice. The discussion was moderated by Dr. M.R. Suresh, Professor-Marketing at SDMIMD. 

Marketing Conference 2019

SDMIMD organized 2nd International Conference on Marketing on Friday, October 18, 2019 on the theme Value Driven Marketing. 
 
Dr. Sheb True, Professor of Marketing, Interim Director – MBA Programs, Coles Colleges of Business, Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, United States, inaugurated the conference and delivered the keynote address. Dr. Sheb True said “Studying or teaching a popular course is right, but everybody will be learning the same. So, what is the differentiator? How we change what we do? Should be the focus of the institutions or university”. The address introduced various studies on the keynote topic and the speaker shared the resources for further readying. He also focused on relooking at the value created by business education and how business education is changing globally.
 
Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director and Professor – Marketing, SDMIMD who also spoke on the occasion said when marketing has shifted from product driven to customer driven, the discussion and deliberation on the ‘value driven’ is more appropriate as value driven is oriented for customer in a value chain.
 
Dr. Jayakrishnan, Conference Chair presented the theme of the conference and said over the years marketing moved from product centric era to human centric era. “Marketers need to identify, understand the anxieties and desires of the consumers to fulfil their needs. The Triple Bottom Line Concept is being embraced by several firms bringing together – economic value, environmental health and social progress. In the current changing market environment, the objective of ‘International Conference on Marketing’ is to provide a platform for the industry, marketing practitioners and academia to share their knowledge and experiences of marketing in the value driven marketing” he added.
 
The conference attracted more than 43 research papers on the conference theme and the papers were presented during the track sessions. Mr. Aditya Singh, Head – Jewellery International Business, Titan Company Limited; was part of the technical sessions of the conference. Valedictory speech was delivered by Mr. Nagachethan S.M, Senior Vice President & Product Head, Chaitanya (CRIDS).
 

8th International Finance Conference 2019

 
The 8th International Conference on Finance, organized by SDMIMD on an annual basis, got off to a flying start with two inspiring inaugural addresses.  Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikai of Dharmasthala and Chairman of SDMIMD inaugurated the conference with a crisp address. He stated that  ‘The gap between rural and urban has greatly reduced over 20 years. Apart from the basic facilities like food, water and road, we have progressed in health facilities too. The improvement in facility has made us to access information, opportunities and facilities available in the World. This has also had impact on education system. Indian institutes have challenges to match the international standards to attract students’. 
 
The Chief Guest and Keynote speaker Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Trichy said ‘India has seen great leap in industrial revolution during last 10 years. We have to move from manufacturing outfits of Industry 1.0 and 2.0 to Industry 4.0 and beyond. The 4th Industrial Revolution has to drive the Indian industries and parallelly we have to prepare ourselves for 5.0 revolution’. Further, Dr. Metri opined that the development of new technology has been a primary driver of the movement to Industry 4.0. Some of the programs first developed during the later stages of the 20th century lacked the technology needed to make their complete implementation possible. Now, Industry 4.0 can help these programs reach their full potential. 
 
Dr. Metri appreciated the achievement of SDMIMD in terms of internationalization and research contribution to the area of management education. 
 
Earlier, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, delivered the welcome address. Dr. M. Sriram, Conference Chair, presented the theme of the conference and gave an overview on the contemporary situation of the conference theme. 
 
The dignitaries released the conference volume published in the form of eBook covering the papers considered for deliberation by the conference committee.  
 
Participants of the conference, faculty members, staff, and students of SDMIMD were present. 

International Conference at Thailand

The International Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Social Sciences (GB15_Thai Conference) organized jointly by J.A. Alpha and SDMIMD was held at Hotel Novotel in the heart of the city of Bangkok, Thailand, during February 20 to 22, 2014. Participants from more than 20 countries took part in the deliberations of the conference. The conference was inaugurated on February 21, 2015 by Dr. Alexis Sergio Esposto, Faculty of Business and Law, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. Read More>

The International Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Social Sciences (GB15_Thai Conference) organized jointly by J.A. Alpha and SDMIMD was held at Hotel Novotel in the heart of the city of Bangkok, Thailand, during February 20 to 22, 2014. Participants from more than 20 countries took part in the deliberations of the conference. The conference was inaugurated on February 21, 2015 by Dr. Alexis Sergio Esposto, Faculty of Business and Law, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. Dr. Alexis Sergio delivered the keynote address during the inauguration and stressed upon the sustainability aspects of business and environment, and described the challenges facing the world. Dr. June Bernadette D’Souza, Professor, School of Management and Economics, Assumption University of Thailand, Thailand, was the guest of honor, and spoke about the darker issues like child labor, poverty, exploitation of women, pollution, spread of AIDS, and a lack of commitment from the organizations in maintaining the welfare of the people.
Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Professor, Operations Management, SDM IMD, Mysore, attended the conference representing SDMIMD. Dr. R. Jagadeesh delivered an invited lecture on the topic of “Operations strategies for global competitiveness” in which he described the evolution of operations strategies and illustrated how they have undergone changes in view of the changes in business environment.
In one of the technical session Dr. Jagadeesh presented a paper titled “Performance Assessment and Optimization of Global Supply Chains”.

International Conference on the theme ‘Reviving Economic Growth’

The 3rd International Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Social Sciences on the theme ‘Reviving Economic Growth!’ was organized at Mumbai during December 19 to 21, 2014 in collaboration with J A Alpha. This conference is part of the ongoing agreement between SDMIMD and J A Alpha as regards holding of conferences in various parts of India and abroad. 
 
Mr. Prakash Agarwal, Independent Banker, Finance Expert & CEO, Your Virtual CFO, Mumbai inaugurated the conference and delivered the keynote address. Prof. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, offered felicitations and later delivered a talk on ‘Strategic Issues in Leadership'. The key note address was delivered by Vivek Bansal, President & Country Head, Financial Management of Yes Bank, and a special address was delivered by Prakash Agarwal, founder and CEO of Virtual CFO. 
 
Delegates from countries viz., Jordan, Iran, UAE, Oman, Qatar, U.S, South Africa, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand and Mauritius presented the papers on the conference theme during the technical sessions. About 45 papers were presented in the Conference.

3rd International HR Conference 2014

The 3rd International Conference on Managing Human Resources at the Workplace was held on December 5 & 6, 2014 at the Institute Campus. Mr. Swaminathan Santhanam, CEO, Adrenalin eSystems Limited, was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural function and delivered the Keynote address. Mr. Swaminathan emphasized the significance of networking in organizations and opined that Social networking and collaborative networking would be the key to success for the future-oriented companies.
 

Corporate & Academic Meet @ CSR Conference

A 2-Day Conference on “Corporate Social Responsibility – Approaches and Practices for Inclusive Growth” was organized by SDMIMD during November 13 & 14, 2014. The conference provided a platform for academics, practitioners, researchers and students to deliberate and reflect on issues pertaining to CSR strategies and building socially responsible businesses . More than 50 papers were presented at the conference.
Mr. J.P. Haran, Managing Director, Tata Consulting Engineering, the Chief Guest and keynotespeaker for the inaugural session of the Conference said that CSR activity would contribute in minimizing risk in business and corporates must take forward the social activity. Mr. Haran urged the participants to contribute 2% of their profit for CSR activity to support those in need. Eminent personalities who graced the conference as speakers and panelists were: Ms. Shachi Irde, Executive Director, Catalyst India WRC; Ms. Priti Parekh, Senior Managing Director, CopalAmba; Dr. B.R. Pai, Vijaya Foundation; Mr. Joseph Sunil, Tata Consultancy Services; and, Dr. L.H. Manjunath, Executive Director, SKDRDPMr. E.S. Chakravarthy, Centre Head, Bangalore, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), delivered the valedictory address.
