100th Meeting of the Toastmasters' Club

SDMIMD Toastmasters club conducted its "100th Milestone Meeting" on December 12, 2021 in hybrid mode. TM Nandha Kumar, the President of the club, commenced the meeting by welcoming the guests. He shared the several accolades that the club had won this year including the "President's Distinguished Club" award . Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director SDMIMD, and  Dr .S. N. Prasad, Deputy Director addressed the gathering and shared their views on the club and motivated the club members with their generous words. 
 
Several dignitaries from Toastmasters District 121 spoke about the club and congratulated the members. Distinguished Toastmaster Abhijit Roy from Kolkata delivered the keynote on the topic "Rejection isn't the end of the road".  The key highlight of the meeting was the "Down Memory Lane" section. In this section, the past presidents of the club, mentors and club coaches shared their memories of the club. Ms.Sujata Rajpal and DTM Haris, who helped the club in its initial days, encouraged the members to keep up their efforts to improve their communication and leadership skills. Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, the club faculty mentor, recalled her journey with the club since its inception in 2014 and expressed gratitude to everyone who had made this journey possible.  

Toastmaster Club Activities

  
SDMIMD Toastmasters works with a shared vision of Toastmasters International and encourages the students to achieve their potential. SDMIMD Toastmasters Club is heading towards a milestone of the 100th meeting on December 12, 2021. To make each meeting count, several educational sessions were organized in the month of October.
 
SDMIMD Toastmasters Club organized an interactive educational session on "Creative Table Topics" on 3rd October 2021, by a well-known Toastmaster of the Mysuru area, TM Azharnaveed Kairdi. Through this session, club members encountered abundant ideas for table topics, where each speaker will be given 2 minutes to speak on that topic.
 
Apart from the regular weekly meetings, our club also conducted an educational session on the topic “Mastering Presentation” on 17th October 2021, by Sandipa Maheswari, DTM. This session was addressed by SDMIMD students of PGDM Batch 2021-2023. One of the essential skills for managerial students is presenting. DTM Sandipa shared the insights to make a good presentation a great presentation by following a few basics of presentation. The session had more than 50 participants from SDMIMD.
 
For the 97th anniversary of Toastmasters International on October 22nd, 2021, Club President TM Nandha Kumar and Club secretary TM Sai Sri Harsha organized a special meet to share the numerous accolades the club has won last year and the forthcoming awards for the club. This session was conducted in person on the SDMIMD campus. 

Award to SDMIMD Toastmasters Club

SDMIMD Toastmaster club achieved the President's Distinguished Club award - the highest level of recognition. The club met the membership prerequisite and achieved nine of the 10 goals. SDMIMD Toastmasters Club is dedicated to Toastmasters International's purpose and vision, as well as the principles and ethics of the home institute, SDMIMD, which sets the club apart from other clubs

SDMIMD Toastmasters Club listed among Top 10

The Toastmasters Club at SDMIMD has been recognised as one of the Top 10 Clubs among 150 clubs in District 121, which consists of clubs in Karnataka and Kerala. The recognition is on account of the highest percentage of education awards filed, per base membership. SDMIMD congratulates SDMites Team of Toastmasters for their commitment and conviction in completing the education projects under the Toastmasters International Pathways Program.

SDMIMD Toastmasters Club Celebrates its Sixth Anniversary

SDMIMD Toastmasters celebrated its sixth anniversary on September 5, 2020. To commemorate the occasion, a virtual meeting was organized via Microsoft Teams. The theme of the meeting was "Ikigai", a Japanese word which means "the reason for which you wake up in the morning". The keynote speaker was Mr. Jaikumar Pillai from the Travancore Toastmasters Club. A passionate Toastmaster, Mr. Pilllai, gave an insightful speech on what it takes to be a Toastmaster and how one can gain from the experience. 
 
The meeting was attended by Toastmasters from VVCE, Infosys, SDMIMD, Wipro BEATS, Bangalore and Travancore and they were joined by an enthusiastic batch of SDMIMDites from the new batch of 2020-2022 bringing the total number of participants to 100. The host, VP Education TM Khushboo, zestfully carried forward the meeting. The Table Topics or the impromptu speech section was hosted by the club President TM Sanketh and it saw great participation by the guests, members and students. Dr. Neetu Ganapathy emerged as the Best Table Topics speaker and Mr. Siva Kumar (from Batch 20-22) emerged as the best first-timer.
 
Evaluation of every performance is very crucial at every Toastmasters meeting. The team comprising TM Sebu, TM Sandipa (Club coach), TM Chayankit, TM Karan, and TM Ankita took charge of providing constructive feedback to the role takers and speakers. As the founder of Toastmasters International, Ralph C Smedley said, "We learn best in the moments of enjoyment", SDMIMD Toastmasters strives to provide a great environment to learn.

Motivational Talk by Toastmaster Kavitha Prakash

  
SDMIMD Toastmasters’ Club organized a Motivational Talk for the PGDM Batch 2019-21 on August 7, 2019. The talk was preceded by the presentation of report on the activities of the Toastmasters club at SDMIMD by the club. TM Kavitha M Prakash, Corporate Trainer for many Fortune 100 Companies and the current area Director for Toastmasters International District 92, for Mysore, spoke about going beyond our comfort zone to achieve our dreams. The talk was followed a briefing on Toastmasters International and its activities.

SDMIMD Club Awards

We are happy to announce that SDMIMD Toastmasters Club has won two awards at the annual conference conducted by Toastmasters International on April 28, 2019. The awards won are:
 
  1. The Spirit of 92 award: This award is given to recognise the Distinguished Club Status achieved by our club on account of accomplishing 10 goals in the area of education, membership, training and administration. It involved achieving the Competent Leadership Award, getting new members, Club officers training and submitting information on time for the club to run smoothly to benefits members. SDMIMD belongs to district 92 which includes Karnataka and Kerala.
  2. The Phoenix Award: This award marks our club’s never give up attitude and achieving the highest success ever since the club started in 2014. We had a crisis situation with less than 10 members in March 2018. In less than ten months, our club and its members sprung back into action and took the membership up to 23 and achieved this Distinguished Status.  

Competent Leader Award

Toastmasters International has awarded five students from our Club the Competent Leader award. Mr. Sreerag Rajendran, Mr. Athul T P, Mr. Dichin Sunder, Mr. Rahul Hirani and Mr. Revanth T are the students who have achieved this honor. This is the first time in SDMIMD’s history that 5 students have been presented this award.
 
In order to be awarded the Competent Leader Certificate, Toastmasters must complete 10 projects, each of which is evaluated by an experienced Toastmaster. These projects enable Toastmasters to take on leadership roles to learn and develop skills such as planning, motivating and managing. After successfully completing all the 10 projects, the candidate is recommended for the Competent Leadership award.
