Talk on Importance of Entrepreneurs in Emerging Economy

​Mr. Sukumar Rangachari, Director, Pointcross.com Pvt. Ltd., was the invited speaker for the special lecture organized by E-Cell Swayam – the entrepreneurial cell of SDMIMD on September 20, 2014. Mr. Sukumar addressed the young managers on the topic “Structuring and developing a management team for a start-up and the way of fundraising”. In his talk, he stressed on the importance of entrepreneurship for an emerging economy and illustrated with live examples from the industry. The achievement of Delivery, a food delivery business that has sprung up in New Delhi, was introduced in his talk. Earlier Prof. M.R. Suresh welcomed and introduced the speaker. 

Launch of PGCPME Program

​SDMIMD is launching the Postgraduate Certificate Program in Management and Entrepreneurship (PGCPME) for graduates. The course effectively acts as a bridge offering in between the graduation course and the flagship PGDM of the Institute. The wide array of subjects in the course would enable candidates to get a flavour of a wider array of knowledge that is needed in a Management program. ​

Tent Library @ Dasara 2014

SDMIMD supported the Tent School and Tent Library operated by District Administration for the children of Kavadies and Mahouts who accompany the elephants of Mysore Dasara. SDMIMD donated stationeries and drawing books. Orientation about use of books and reading habits was also provided by Dr. Sunil M.V., Librarian.

International Finance Conference 2014

‘Billions of dollars are lost every year due to fraud related activities. Financial fraud and the then consequent bankruptcy of a business was one of the reasons for the global financial crisis and usually it is an extremely costly event. Downturn in financial and economic conditions has triggered a jump in the fraudulent activity in the corporate world’ thus opined Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Professor of Economics, Bond University, Australia, in his keynote address on the topic “Fraud, Corruption and Bribery: How to prevent and how to detect?” at the Inaugural Session.

Campus Visit by Chairman Dr. D.V. Heggade

On 20th of August 2014 Honorable Chairman of SDMIMD Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari, Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, visited the Institute. During the visit, Dr. Heggade addressed the faculty members and spent time with a cross section of students to understand specific learning experiences directly from them.

Workshop on Research Ideas in Finance & Accounting

Satyam is the first known case of financial fraud. This should prompt researchers to take up research on companies that are likely to employ financial accounting as a tool to fudge numbers in order to portray unrealistic performance with an eye on stock prices and win investor confidence”. Dr R. Narayanaswamy was speaking on the occasion of the Workshop on Research Ideas in Finance & Accounting on August 20, 2014. 
The other resource persons in the workshop were Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Dr B. Mahadevappa, Professor – DoS in Commerce, University of Mysore, Dr R Jagadeesh, Professor – Operations, SDMIMD Mysore and Dr Ullas Rao, Associate Professor – Finance, SDMIMD Mysore. The Workshop was organized as part of the 3rd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Finance & Accounting scheduled on August 22 & 23, 2014 at SDMIMD Mysore. The discussions equipped the participants with developing research ideas in Finance & Accounting in order to develop research proposals and manuscripts capable of qualifying for publication in Journals of repute. There were 35 participants representing premier management institutions and research departments. The event culminated with an interesting panel discussion where researchers discussed some of the most contemporary and insightful topics of research with the resource persons.

68th Independence Day Celebration

SDMIMD celebrated the 68th Independence Day in its campus by hoisting the Tricolour on August 15, 2014. The flag was hoisted by Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Faculty – Systems, SDMIMD, Mysore. Faculty, staff and students were present. This was followed by a chorus of the National Anthem and an address by few of the faculty members and the students. The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets and community breakfast. 

International Symposium

International Symposium 2015
As in the previous years, an International Symposium is being organized to be held at the Institute on 12 January 2015, to coincide with the visit of students and faculty from mays Business School, Texas A&M University, with whom the Institute has an exchange agreement. Mr. Robert Grobbauer, Managing Director and COO, AT & S India, will be delivering the Keynote address.  Dr. Julian Gaspar, Clinical Professor of International Finance at Mays Business School will also speak on the occasion. This will be followed by quizzes, cases and cultural programs organized by the students of SDMIMD

Meanwhile, in the International scenario, the countries which do not take the advantages of globalization and free trade will lose the opportunities”, opined Dr. Julian Gaspar, Director, Centre for International Business Studies and Clinical Professor of Finance, Mays Business School, Texas A and M University, USA, in his inaugural address at the one day International Symposium organized by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development Mysore.Mr. Arun Nayar a leading HR professional currently Director HR at Safran Engineering services, in his Keynote address, dwelling on the topic “Work-A Cultural Perspective” revolved around the importance of cultural adaptability for a successful working professional. He stressed on the fact India would become the largest contributor to the global workforce by 2030. As the work capable population increases in India, the local economy would not be able to create enough job opportunities as a result India would witness an exodus of working population to labor starved countries such as BRICS and USA.He emphasized on need to understand Culture, as Cultural Adaptability can bring better International Business. 
Competitive edge can be gained with better knowledge on domestic and international culture. The International Symposium began with the welcome address by Dr. N.R. Parasurman, Director, SDMIMD. The welcome message emphasized on how effective it is for the countries across the globe to adapt to practices for globalization and free trade. The inaugural session was followed by the interactive session between students of SDMIMD and Mays Business School, Texas A & M University, USA. Business quiz and the brain teasers were the part of the interactive session. The luncheon session was a Workshop on Functional Innovation Methodology by Innomantra Consulting Private Limited organized to the students from Texas A & M University. Mr. Deepu Chandran, Director, Innomantra Consulting Private Limited and Mr. Lokesh, Managing Director, Innomantra Consulting Private Limited, were the resource persons for the innovation workshop.

International Symposium on “Doing Business in India”
The symposium was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the luminaries on January 9, 2012 at SDMIMD Campus. The event was declared open by Prof. S. Prabhakar, Secretary, SDM Educational Trust. Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director of SDMIMD, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Sid Mookerji, CEO, Software Paradigm Infotech (SPI) in his keynote address highlighted three issues - the key factors that led to India's growth, Cultural differences between India and the West, and his own experience in ‘Doing Business in India’ through SPI. He also spoke of India's first rank as a country through the Global Services Location Index, through its high scores on people skills and availability. It was a proud moment to note that India ranks third on FDI confidence index, trailing only US and China. With various anecdotes and incidents lacing his speech, Mr. Mookerji kept the crowds enthralled.
