FDP on Innovative Methods in Teaching HRM and OB

‘In the ever-changing business environment, managing people at workplace has become increasingly challenging. In the context of changing expectations and demographics of workforce, managers need to cope with various human and non-human facets at work. Therefore, students must be sensitized to the dynamics of managing interpersonal relationship at the workplace, which needs to be learnt by them, not only through concepts, but also, through experiential learning’ thus said Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Faculty Facilitator & Professor – HR & OB, SDMIMD, Mysore, during the inaugural session of the two day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Innovative Methods in Teaching HRM & OB, scheduled on 5 & 6 June 2015, at SDMIMD
Highlighting the aim of the program, Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Faculty Facilitator & Professor – HR & OB, SDMIMD, Mysore, said ‘some of the innovative teaching methods in the area of HRM and OB, which can be used effectively in the classrooms situations to promote a holistic learning experience for the students are introduced to the participants representing from across India. These methods will provide the students with real life situational scenarios, through the innovative teaching methods, such as, case study analysis, role play, experiential learning and simulations’.
Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, inaugurated the program and in his inaugural address he stressed upon the need of innovation in teaching methods across all discipline is the need of the hour. Further, he said that innovation will help the students to be better decision-makers, understand the real-life situations and industry-ready. 
The workshop witnessed participation from all over the country. Prof. Malathi Sriram, Chairperson-PGDM, SDMIMD and Dr. Sunil M. V., Program Coordinator were also present on the occasion. 

MDP on ‘Dimensions of Leadership’

The one-day MDP on ‘Dimensions of Leadership’ for executives was inaugurated by Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean-Academics, SDMIMD. During his inaugural address Dr. Jagadeesh mentioned that leadership styles could be of different types depending on the situation, type of organization, and several other factors. Dr. M.R. Suresh and Lt. Col. Prasad S.N. were the resource persons of the program, which stressed on leadership qualities which are called for in a day- to -day situations  and how these build into an overall strategy.Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director, SDMIMD delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to the participants. 

MDP on Inferential Statistics Using Excel

Data analysis using statistical tools is being seen as a major component in research studies and most of the statistical tools can be comfortably adopted via Microsoft excel. An appropriate training program will help researchers in analysing the data comfortably. With this objective in mind,  Dr. S. Lakshminarayana, conducted a MDP on ‘Inferential Statistics Using Excel’ on May 23, 2015 at SDMIMD.  The program attracted research scholars from academia and corporate world. The participants were trained on using the tools on excel templates, which were specially designed for the purpose. They were taught on the selection of appropriate statistical tools using cases and were encouraged to independently think on analysing the research data.  

2-Day Workshop on Questionnaire Design and Statistical Analysis

‘Academic research is all about having an end purpose in mind.  It is possible to do statistical analysis on any data, and with the advent of sophisticated software, we get a variety of quantitative and graphical output.  However, the use and relevance of this depends on what is sought to be studied and the suitability of the input data for this’ said Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, in his inaugural address at the 2-Day Workshop on ‘Questionnaire Design & Statistical Analysis’ held on May 18 &19, 2015 at SDMIMD, Mysore. 
The workshop attracted researchers and academicians from institutions across Karnataka and neighbouring states. The participants were exposed to tools available on Open Access or Free environment on Internet for research activities. Hands-on sessions made the participants to work with the real data sets and understand statistical analysis. 
Dr. Sunil M.V., Program Coordinator, highlighted the importance of data analytics in a structured manner, in a manner that is at once relevant and easy to understand.
Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean Academics, SDMIMD, Mysore, delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to the participants. The resource persons for the workshop were Faculty of SDMIMD -Dr. Maruthi R. Suresh, Dr. S.N. Lakshminarayana, and Prof. Mohamed Minhaj.

Training for Ayurveda Pharmaceuticals Scale Team

A training program focused on Marketing Strategies, Managing Competition, Sales Management and Profitability, Interpersonal Skill and Marketing Skills was conducted during May 13 to 15, 2016 at SDMIMD campus. The training program designed by SDMIMD faculty members Dr. H. Gayathri and Dr. M. R. Suresh for the sales team of SDM Ayurveda Pharmacy College, Kuthpady, Udupi

MDP on Finance for Non-Finance Professionals

The 3-day program on Finance for Non-Finance Professionals was held on April 23-25, 2015. The program equipped professionals representing the Non-Finance background, with the essential tools and concepts in Finance. The program was framed with an overall objective of developing Financial Intelligence among the participants to aid effective decision making. The program employed an innovative pedagogy comprising of Case studies, Role plays, and Excel demonstrations with an aid to inculcate an overall appreciation for Finance. 
The 3-day program comprised of modules covering Introduction to Financial Reporting, Cost Management for Decision Making, Principles of Corporate Finance, and Introduction to Corporate Valuation. This executive program was developed by SDMIMD faculty members keeping with the requirements of the corporate organizations. The program witnessed participation representing diverse organizations that included Glowtronics Ltd., Carborundum Universal, Apollo Hospitals Mysore, Klueber Lubricants, Supreem Pharmaceuticals, Meritors HVS India, Software Paradigms India (SPI), Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering, and PES College of Engineering. Earlier, the program was inaugurated by the Director, SDMIMD, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman. Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean Academics, SDMIMD delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to the participants. Program Coordinators Dr. Ullas Rao and Dr. Sunil M. V. were present.

Workshop on HR for Non-HR Professionals

A two day workshop on ‘HR for Non-HR Professionals’ was organized at the Institute during April 9 & 10, 2015. The workshop was designed to address the participants on HR and management issues in day-to-day work-life situations. Inaugurating the workshop, the Director of SDMIMD, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman stressed on need of leadership skills, team management capabilities and strategic approach to problem solving & decision making, as essential qualities to manage the manpower in the work-life situation. 
The faculty facilitators for the workshop, Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta and Dr. Mousumi Sengupta emphasized, “While at work, we involve in interactions with people, across all levels, irrespective of the nature of our work. It involves functions, ranging from leading and motivating staff to appraising their performance. Therefore, we need to appreciate the behavioural issues, arising on a day-to-day basis.  These issues are being addressed in the workshop through experience sharing & discussion, role play, simulations, & case studies”. 
Professionals engaged in administrative roles, academicians, academic administrators, professionals in managerial roles across different sectors and levels participated in the workshop. 
At the end of the program, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director of the institute delivered the valedictory address and distributed certificates to the participants. Dr. Sunil M.V. Coordinator of the program was present.

SDMites visit to University of Dubai

Students from SDMIMD spent a week of classes and interaction at the University of Dubai in the first week of April, 2015. SDMIMD entered into a special tie-up with the highly accredited University of Dubai for a short study cum corporate exposure orientation for select students. The students are the top performers in the First year program and have been sent to Dubai with the Institute bearing all their expenses for travel, stay and study. The present arrangement with University of Dubai was based on a discussion with the latter on specific academic and corporate inputs that the students could be exposed to.
The trip concluded in the first week of April and was rated very high by the students.  The Chief Academic Officer of the University of Dubai has this to say of SDMIMD students: “Your students are gems and are of very good quality.”
