SDMites emerged as Runners-up Inflore 2015 Event

Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies, Kakkanad, Kochi had organised ‘Inflore 2015’, a National Level Management fest on 15 & 16 October 2015.A team of 16 students from 1st year, SDMIMD, participated in 5 events, namely Best Manager, Best Management Team, Marketing, Finance and HR. 
 
Mr. Ankit Sanghani, Mr. Narendran, Ms. Thamburu N Sanan and Mr. Vijesh M V, have won the first prize in the finance game "Rabban". The event comprised of 6 rounds, which was a deluge of financial problems based on a variety of financial aspects that would be best described as the 'Technical's' of Finance.
 
Ms. Hannah Priyadarshini B, Mr. Krishna Arun, Ms. Shushma Chengappa have won the second prize in the HR game "Afonso". The event comprised of various HR activities such as recruitment ad, exit interview and case study.

Success Story by SDMIMD Alumnus

The students of PGDM batch 2015-17 had an opportunity to hear a ‘Success Story’ from SDMIMD Alumnus of Batch 1999-2001 Mr. Venktesh Charan, Director, Vaswaat Chemicals Limited on Saturday, October 17, 2015.
 
In his talk, Mr. Charan shared valuable insights from an entrepreneurial point of view, most of which related to his personal experience as Director of Vaswaat Chemicals Limited, a premier chemical company which has been associated with the development, production, and supply of chemicals for pharmaceuticals, leather, textiles, oil and gas, and cosmetic companies, among others.
 
Mr. Charan also set aside time during his talk to acknowledge the students’ perspectives and ideas regarding entrepreneurship, and also answered several of the students’ questions.

As a part of the exchange arrangement that SDMIMD has with the University of Shanghai, 17 students from SHU MBA, headed by their Deputy Chief Program Officer Ms. Jieting Xing were at SDM IMD Mysuru for a week. In accordance with the rationale of the Study Tour, the aim of which is to foster an understanding of academics supported with industry visits, the team from Shanghai University underwent special sessions by the SDMIMD faculty and also visited seval industrial units in and around Mysore. TVS Motors, Infosys and Skanray Technologies Pvt Ltd., were some of the companies that were visited.  In these companies, the students were able to get an idea of best practices and could compare these with the corresponding management styles in China.
Special classes were held on topics such as Quality, Business Communications, Indian IT industry, Business Negotiations, Human Resources Management, Financial indicators of Indian Stock Markets & Indices and Dimensions of Leadership.
The visit culminated with the Shanghai team interacting with the local press to give a broad overview of their perspective regarding India, its industry people and specifically about SDMI MD Mysuru.

Seminar on ‘Special Attitude’

A 'Special Attitude' seminar focusing on preparing the students for the campus hiring season, building the right attitude towards work and life, ability to focus on industry with intense focus on the domain / specialization was organized on October 3, 2015 at MDP Hall in the campus. The Resource person for the seminar Mr. Praveen Kamath, Global Head - Talent Transformation (BPS division of Wipro Limited), The seminar emphasised on the right attitude for each situation.

ESIC Workshop held at SDMIMD

Dealing with people, understanding their needs and attitudes, and catering to their requirements, while remaining within the purview of the rules and regulations, are the key to success, especially for Organizations like ESI, which is a multi-dimensional social system, tailored to provide socio-economic protection to worker population and immediate dependents or family.  These issues have been addressed in a full-day Soft Skills Training Program, conducted by SDMIMD Mysore for ESI Officials, on September 26, 2015.
In this interactive program, significant topics, like Self-Confidence, Team Work, Motivation, Time Management, Communication Skills and Relationship Management have been discussed.  The Training Program was inaugurated by Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD.  Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, he addressed the participants and highlighted on the importance of Soft Skills training in all areas for effective delivery implementation of Programmes in Government, Private NGO’s and Educational Institutions.  The other officials present were Sri V. Dasu, Director – Training/South Zone, ZTI, ESIC, Sri R. Raju, Deputy Director, SRO, ESIC, Mysore and Sri C.V. Sridhar, Manager-Administration, SDMIMD, Mysore.
Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor and Chairman, RCMS SDMIMD, has been the Coordinator and Faculty Resource of the Program.  Dr. Mousumi Sengupta and Prof. S.N. Prasad were the other Faculty Members for the Program.  39 ESI Officials participated in this program.

‘India is a hotspot for startups. But one in every two startup shuts down within a year of its inception, because they lack customer perspective’ said Mr. Sid Mookerji, Global CEO and Co- Founder, Software Paradigms International Group LLP (SPI) in the Annual Leadership Talk delivered at the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) on September 10, 2015. Mr. Mookerji listed the keys to be a successful entrepreneur - clearly defined and easily articulated strategy,  a world class team to work with, and high personal qualities in the leader.
Mr. Mookerji briefly outlined the step-by-step way in which he has led SPI into a truly international and professional organization. The individual needs to have an out-of-box thinking that should be conveyed in an effective manner. A sense of ownership towards the mission of the company and being continuous learner with a sense of integrity. The talk was attended by a number of corporate executives and academics in and around Mysore, apart from the students and faculty of SDMIMD.

Rotary Datta Award to Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean (Academics)

On the eve of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan’s birthday being celebrated as Teachers Day on 5th September every year, Rotary Mysore has been honoring eminent teachers with ‘Rotary Datta Award’ from the past 16 years. For the year 2015, Rotary Mysore has presented ‘Rotary Datta Award’ to Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean (Academics) & Professor-Operations Management, SDMIMD, on Saturday, September 5, 2015 in a function held at Rotary Center, Mysuru. The Chief Guest, Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Founder & President, Swamy Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) & Rtn. H.S. Venkatesh, President, Rotary Mysore, along with the donors Rotarian Mr. Dinesh Babu and his family, presented the award, in the presence of office bearers, members of the center, and invitees.
