Debate Competition 2016

Prof. Y. Bhagavan Memorial National Level Debate was organized by SDMIMD in collaboration with Rotary Mid-town Mysore during Feb 27 & 28, 2016 at SDMIMD.
Inaugurating the competition Mr. Niranjan Nikam, Senior Journalist & Consultant – University of Mysore Centenary Celebrations, said ‘The debates, the dissents, the arguments, the counter arguments, are all part of growing up. Not claiming that ‘my ideology is the best’, understanding, absorbing, assimilating all with a fresh and open mind is essential. The moment the mind becomes rigid, then the loser is none other than you yourself. You close your mind to all thoughts, views, opinions, ideas and the world passes you by. Don’t allow this to happen’.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony Dr. Sujatha Muthanna, L&D Infosys, Mysuru, spoke about the relevance of debating and establishing one’s point of view in the corporate world. The youth of today are driven and this streak must extend to the corporate environment. This will pave the way for them to carve a niche for themselves.
64 bright young minds from 8 States representing different disciplines of education - Law, Engineering, Management, Medical, Arts & Science - debated on the topics "All nations should have a right to carry Nuclear Weapons" & "In India, betting in Cricket should be legalized" during First Round held on February 27, 2016. “The Indian News Media does not deserve the epithet – Presstitutes” was the topic for Top 12 from First Round.
Prof. Govinda Sharma in his valedictory address highlighted the importance of debate and how it will give different dimensions to our thought process. Prof. Sharma appreciated the topics chosen for debate and lauded the students members involved in organizing the debate for making it a National Level event.
