Invited talk by Ms. TM Sujata Rajpal

On July 21, 2018, the SDMIMD Toastmasters’ Club organized a motivational talk for the batch of 2018-20. TM Sujata Rajpal, an author and TEDx speaker, delivered the talk titled “It’s not as difficult, as it appears”. She shared her experience of dealing with failure and urged the audience to persist in their efforts despite difficulties that may come their way. Her talk was followed by a briefing on Toastmasters International and its activities by Distinguished TM Haris AW. He told students about the benefits of being a Toastmaster. The program was compered by TM Rahul Hirani, Vice President-Public Relations, SDMIMD Toastmasters’ Club. TM Sreerag Rajendran, President SDMIMD Toastmasters’ Club, delivered the welcome address. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks proposed by TM Dichin Sunder, Vice President Education, SDMIMD Toastmasters’ Club. TM Athul TP, Secretary SDMIMD Toastmasters’ Club and other members of the club were present.

Dharmasthala trip for PGDM 2018-20

As a part of the orientation program to the new batch of students, a trip to Dharmasthala was organized on July 22-23, 2018, Students got the opportunity to see first hand the numerous social activities going on in Dharmasthala, as well as have the opportunity of interacting with Chairman Dr. D Veerendra Heggade. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a lot of good things to say about the inspiration they received on meeting Dr. Heggade and being in the holy place.

Workshop on Brand Management

 
The 3-Day during July 18 - 20, 2018 was all about 'Brands' for SDMites. The workshop on Branding and Brand Management by Exchange Faculty from the University of Abu Dhabi, UAE,  Dr. Shilpa Iyanna, Associate Professor of Marketing, College of Business, made students experience the journey of brand building. 
 
It started with the discussion on 'brands', how brands are built, models that help in building up a brand and the importance of a brand from the consumer perspective. Examples of top brands were also discussed such as Apple, Intel, Tata, HCL etc., with their advertising techniques. The discussion on internal and external factors that influences the marketing of a brand, the importance of culture, cross culture and challenges faced, were discussed while delivering the best marketing strategy. Dr. Shilpa opined that various local factors must be kept in mind while deciding on the marketing strategy for a brand in a particular country. 

Invited talk by alumnus

Ms. Vekariya Helly Ramesh, the alumnus of PGDM 2009-11, was the invited speaker for the talk delivered on July 12, 2018. Ms. Helly spoke about the importance of personal finance and financial discipline in life. 
 

Talk on Business Analytics

The Day-4 of the Orientation Program 2018 had a distinguished speaker Dr. S. Chandrasekhar, Senior Professor and Chairman, Centre of Excellence – Business Analytics, IFIM Business School, Bangalore. Dr. Chandrasekhar introduced the highly contemporary topic- analytics and its application in various fields of Management. The speaker listed out specific areas where analytics will be of special use.
 

Talk on Team Collaboration

Mr. Ravi Bardia, Assistant Product Manager, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, Bangalore, was the speaker for the Distinguished Talk of Orientation Program 2018 scheduled on July 7, 2018. Mr. Ravi focused his talk on ‘Team Collaboration in the Workplace’.
 

Distinguished Talk by Mr. Ramesh Dasary

‘Employee empowerment in an organization is the key to progress’ said Mr. Ramesh Dasary, Business Transformation Consulting - HCM, Improwise, Bangalore, during the talk delivered to the second year PGDM students on July 7, 2018. The speaker referred to various allied aspects of Human Resources management in an organization.
 

Invited talk on Life and Career

‘Knowledge, skills and attitude are the three important resources in today’s day-to-day work and life’ thus said Mr. D.R. Nagaraj, CEO, NMS HR Solutions, Bangalore, during the invited talk delivered on July 6, 2018 during the Orientation Program 2018. Addressing the PGDM 2018-20 Batch, he discussed in detail about the important requirements an organisation looks for in an individual. The speaker also discussed on how to ensure that the life and the career go hand in hand.
