Webinar on Dynamic Leadership

A webinar on the theme of Dynamic Leadership was organized for the PGDM 2021-2023 Batch on June 28, 2021.  The webinar was held in an interactive mode where students were encouraged to share their views on various important aspects of leadership. The Resource person for the interactive session Dr Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor - OB/HR, SDMIMD, focused the session on - issues related to characteristics of dynamic leaders; various leadership styles in the context of business and social leadership; Indian leadership styles followed in Indian organizations; and, leadership failures and the crisis of leadership.

26th Annual Convocation

Mysore, Friday, April 2, 2021 - The 26th Annual Convocation of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development was held today at the Institute Campus situated at the foothills of Chamundi Hill, Siddharthanagar, Mysuru. Given the COVID-related restrictions, the audience was restricted only to the students passing out, their parents, members of the Governing Board, faculty, and staff of SDMIMD and representatives of the Press.
 
On the occasion the Institute awarded the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) (equivalent to MBA) to 171 eligible students of the batch 2019-21 and 4 from the 2018-20 batch. The graduating students received their Diploma from Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala and Chairman, SDMIMD. The Chief Guest Shri. T. R. Parasuraman, President and Whole time Director, Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt. Ltd., presented Gold Medals to the high-performing Students for excellent overall performance and outstanding performance in various specializations. 
 
In his convocation address, Shri. T. R. Parasuraman said that, young India has greater opportunities in the manufacturing industry and the avenues are ample to explore with strong determination to achieve success. 
 
Mr. Parasuraman mentioned about the "Toyota way" for continuous improvement (Kaizen).  He opined that continuous improvement is a result of establishing long term vision, working on challenges, continuous innovation and going to the source of the issue (Genchi Genbutsu) and respect for people. His speech was replete with anecdotal stories driving to principles for managing oneself.  He emphasized the spirit of hard work and the need for focus.  He also expressed his administration for Dr. D Veerendra Heggade’s great initiatives in the social sector and extolled the students to follow that path.
 
As an advice to the graduating students the keynote speaker said, ‘to be a leader we must follow 5 key works - foot work (on floor experience), head work (to understand the problem with open mindset), teamwork, hard work and network’. 
 
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala and Chairman, SDMIMD, called upon the young managers to be global in relevance and Indian in ethos. He expressed the view that in emulating western practices of management, one should retain the great Indian qualities of humility, reverence and gratitude.  He expressed his appreciation on the Institute’s efforts in bringing about continuous improvements 
 
Earlier, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director of the Institute presented the Annual Report stating the activities and achievements of the Institute in the academic year 2020-21. Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director, SDMIMD, presented the candidates for the award of degree by the Chairman Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade. Dr. S.N. Prasad, Professor, SDMIMD, proposed the vote of thanks to conclude the convocation ceremony.
 
Several Governing Board Members of the Institute were present and graced the occasion.

Gold medals awarded to PGDM 2018-20 batch

During the 26th Annual Convocation of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) held recently at the Institute Campus in Mysore, Gold medals were awarded for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management 2018-2020 Batch, apart from the honours to the currently passed out batch, held on April 2, 2021. 
 
It may be recalled that due to the corona pandemic, the 25th Annual convocation was not held last year. The event was planned to be held in March 2020. 
 
Gold medals for 2018-20 were given to the Six students for their excellent performance in academics by the Convocation Chief Guest Shri. T. R. Parasuraman, President and Whole time Director, Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt. Ltd. 
 
Ms. Juhi Prabhu was awarded the Chairman’s Distinguished Student Gold Medal for Best Academic Performance. Mr. Gagan Raj S.Y. secured the Ankur Gupta Memorial Alumni Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Finance. The Suman Narayan Memorial Alumni Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Human Resources Management; and Ankur Gupta Memorial Gold Medal for Best Overall Performance was awarded to Ms. Karshini Tyagarajan. The Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Marketing was secured by Mr. Agnimitra Das. Mr. Koushalendra Kumar secured the Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Operations. And the Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Systems was awarded to Ms. Javvadi Bhandhavi. 
 
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade in his presidential address said one of the greatest challenges in any B-school is to ascertain the relative level of quality on various parameters – curriculum, pedagogy, projects, evaluation, and overall preparation of students- compared to globally accepted standards.  
 
In his message to the graduating students, Dr. Heggade said there is no doubt that having the right frame of mind and temperament is an equally important attribute that they would need to succeed in their careers and life.  Special importance to the understanding of Indian ethos and values, side by side with excellence in conceptual understanding is the need of the hour. 
 
Speaking on the leadership qualities and success in business, Dr. Heggade opined highly successful people are not necessarily highly skilled, but they have high emotional intelligence. Today, business is faced with the need to identify its individual competence and competitive ability with international standards of excellence. 
 
Convocation Chief Guest Mr. T.R. Parasuraman, shared the scenario of manufacturing industry in India and quality aspects to be inculcated by the young managers both in personal and professional life with anecdotes from his experience with Toyota. 
 
Earlier, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director of the Institute presented the Annual Report stating the activities and achievements of the Institute in the academic year 2020-21. Dr. S. N. Prasad, Professor, SDMIMD rendered the Vote of Thanks.

MDP on Communicating Effectively in the Virtual World

Due to the pandemic, a large majority of our communication has moved online. Work from Home has become the norm. Given the circumstances, we need to adapt our communication to digital platforms. Keeping this in mind, a MDP on “Communicating Effectively in the Virtual World” was organized on December 18, 2020 by SDMIMD. Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Associate Professor-Business Communication and Information Systems, SDMIMD, was the resource person.

International E-Conference on “Adapting to the new business normal - The way ahead”

For several years Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) has been organizing multiple international conferences every year. SDMIMD's Institution Innovation Council (ICC)

Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI) has approved the establishment of the Institute Innovation Council (IIC) as per the norms of Innovation Cell at SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore. The center will systematically foster the culture of Innovation in the eco-system, by encouraging, inspiring and nurturing the young managers by supporting them to work with new ideas with multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campus. 
 
The IIC will be conducting various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central Ministry of Education Innovation Cell (MIC) in time bound fashion. 

SDMIMD JoM: 10 Years in Scholarly Publication

Started in 2010, the stature of the SDMIMD Journal of Management (SDMIMD JoM) has risen in the Peer-Reviewed Scholarly Publication World. During the past decade, the journal which focuses on the realm of management has witnessed tremendous growth in the quality contributions of the researchers & academics. Further, the journal has gained rising readership and wider popularity and it is evident from the high Index Copernicus Value (ICV 2018) of the journal (95.57). Eventually, the SDMIMD JoM got indexed in EBSCO, J-Gate, i-Scholar, Copernicus, Cosmos and UGC list. Currently, the journal has applied for the UGC Care List. The journal also envisions to get enlisted in the Scopus and ABDC in the future.
 
SDMIMD is proud of the growth of the journal and visualises to make this one of the best journals in the area of management. SDMIMD and Editorial board of the JoM is grateful to the rich contributions of the Editorial Advisory Board, Reviewers, Authors, Readers and the Co-publisher of the journal M/s Informatics Publishing Limited, and all other stakeholders for the continued support in completing successfully 10 Years of Scholarly Publication journey.

Talk on ‘Global Financial System - Yesterday, Today and tomorrow’

Dr Stephen ARO-GORDON, Adjunct Faculty of SDMIMD and Professor, Department of Business and Accounting, Muscat College (University of Stirling Management School in Oman) delivered webinar on the topic ‘Global Financial System-Yesterday, Today and tomorrow’ on Friday, November 27, 2020. 
 
Dr Aro-Gordon gave orientation on the perspectives of Global Financial Systems in the current global pandemic scenario. The challenges and opportunities the world could probably face during the post pandemic situation were discussed by the speaker. Dr Aro-Gordon briefly touched upon the emergence of Islamic banking and opined that ‘Islamic Banking’ as an alternative channel to conventional banking in the current situation.
