Young Minds Debated on ‘Freedom of Speech and Expression’

‘Young minds should be courageous and confident’ was the message given to the debaters by Ms. Chaya Srivatsa, Life Coach at Infosys Mysore during her inaugural address at ‘Y. Bhagavan Memorial Debate Competition’ organized by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) in association with Rotary Mysore Mid Town. She went down memory lane and recalled incidents from her college days as a student of Shri. Y. Bhagavan at Maharani’s College Mysore. She exhorted the young debaters to be courageous and confident on stage. The Guest of Honor Prof. N.R. JK Tyre & Industries CMDP Batch V – February 09 to 12, 2015

The 5th Batch of the JK Tyre & Industries Customized Management Development Program (CMDP) was conducted from February 9 to 12, 2015. The program was inaugurated by Dr. N. R.Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD Mysore in the presence of Mr. Gowri Prakash, Manager – HR, JK Tyre & Industries, VTP Mysore. The program delivered over 4-days witnessed participation from 27 participants representing the Vikrant Tyre Plant (VTP), Mysore and Chennai Tyre Plant (CTP).
The fifth in the series of programs designed for Identified High Performers (IHPs) of the company who are being trained across all the functions of management comprising of Finance, Marketing, Human Resources Management, Operations, Strategy, and Information Technology. Mr. Umesh K. Shenoy, Vice President – Works, JK Tyre & Industries, VTP Mysore was the Chief Guest for the valedictory session. The program was coordinated by Dr. Ullas Rao, Associate Professor – Finance, SDMIMD Mysore.

Commencement of Faculty Exchange Program with BUiD

Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy-Director, and Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Professor – HRM, from SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysore (SDMIMD), travelled to Dubai in February, 2015, and conducted workshops for MBA students, studying in British University in Dubai (BUiD).Dr. Gayathri offered a workshop on “Business Negotiation Skills’’, and, Dr. Mousumi conducted a workshop on “Self-Management”. This was a part of the MoU between BUiD with SDMIMD regarding exchange of Faculty for academic activities. In turn, Dr. Elango Rengaswamy visited SDMIMD in March 2015 to held a workshop on International Business.

Guest lecture by Ms.Swarna Gowri

Ms. Swarna Gowri, a consultant in the area of learning and psychological development held a day-long workshop for the benefit of students who have undertaken a project on “Impact of Yoga on emotional intelligence of management students” on 8 February 2015. The activity based workshop introduced the students to the concept of emotional intelligence, purpose of life, role of emotional intelligence in interpersonal and intrapersonal skills and how Yoga helps developing emotional intelligence. The workshop was very well received.

Guest lecture by Sundar K.S

Mr. Sundar, Associate Vice President, Education and Research, Global Education Centre, Infosys, Mysore addressed the students on 7 February 2015 on the topic “Ethical practices in IT” as a part of the course “Ethics and Values in Management”. He gave insights as to how People, Process and Products are the components of ethical process in IT and illustrated it with a case study of Infosys. He elaborated on the value systems at Infosys, C-Life, which is an acronym for Client value, Leading by example, Integrity and Excellence. The talk was followed by a lively question and answer session. Some of the students took this opportunity to interview him as a part of Activity Based Learning cell.

Naissance Inauguration

 

Naissance, the Student managed flagship management fest of SDMIMD was inaugurated by Mr. Girish Karunakaran, Vice President of Eurasia, Software Paradigm International (SPI). The 3-Day event scheduled during January 29 to 31, 2015, is the arena wherein the brightest minds from the best B-Schools across India battle it out to attain supremacy in intellect and creativity. This year the theme ‘Unscramble for Success’ emphasizes the need for synergy and distinctness among managers to enable them, make the right moves at the right time to scale greater pinnacles in this scrambled world.
 
Mr. Girish Karunakaran in his inaugural address to the young minds gathered stressed on the role of youth towards building the nation. Speaking about the entrepreneurial initiatives in the country, which is steadily growing over the past few years, he called upon the young managers to build their career and provide employment to others as well.
 
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD welcomed the gathering and appreciated the effort and managerial acumen of SDMites in making Naissance 2015 possible. 
 
Over 180 students representing B-Schools across India participated in this event. The participants had chance to showcase their managerial acumen in various events organized at Naissance 2015. 
 
  • ‘Daayitva’ the Corporate Social Responsibility event was won by team ‘Sharpeners’, from the CSR Centre of Excellence, comprising Gurunandan Rao M, Sahana V.P and Jagadeesh P.H. 
  • The finance event ‘VittArohan’ had team from Loyola Institute of Business Administration, comprising Chathurya P and Geetha P.J as winner. 
  • The team from XIME Bangalore, comprising of Nupur Malpani and Moumita Mahapatra won the Human Resource event ‘Carpe Articulum’
  • The team from LIBA won the marketing event ‘Markethor’. Oscar D’Souza and Evans Thomas represented LIBA for the marketing event. 
  • ‘Impendence’ the Operations event was conquered by Nimish Halkar and Libin George representing Christ University. 
  • Another team from Christ comprising of Sharan Jawalkar and Devesh Sharma won the Systems event - ‘Lucifer’s Ultimatum’.  
  • The B-Plan competition organized by SDMIMD E-Cell – Swayam was very encouraging. The team from Goa Institute of Management - findadspot.com comprising of Mr.Ankur Jhunjhunwala and Mr.Suneet Dashora emerged as winners of this event. 
Xavier’s Institute of Management Bangalore emerged as Overall Champions of Naissance 2015 for their performance in all the events organized in this 3-Day management fest. 
 
Mr. Rakesh Babu , Director, Innomantra, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. Mr. Rakesh Babu addressed the gathering and handed over the prizes to the winners of the various events. The audience was thrilled and cheered the winning team of XIMB when it received the overall trophy from the chief guest.
