9th International Conference on Corporate Finance and Financial Markets

The 9th International Finance conference was held on 28th and 29th October,2021 at SDMIMD (virtual model). The conference was inaugurated by Sri.F.R.Singhvi, Joint Managing Director, Sansera Engineering Ltd Bengaluru who also delivered the keynote address. During the keynote address, he stressed on the importance of holding liquid assets for growth and sustenance of business. Liquidity ensures that businesses maintain adequate cash flows and are insulated from the vagaries of changes in macro-economic factors. He also touched upon how the automation process through AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning) is changing the landscape of the finance function and the business at large. Dr.N.R.Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD released the conference proceedings in the form of a CD. During his speech, he highlighted the recent developments in the corporate finance and financial markets. Earlier, Dr.M.Sriram, Associate Professor-Finance, SDMIMD and the conference chair welcomed the gathering and introduced the conference theme for the year 2021.
 
Technical session delivered by Mr.Bharathram, Lokkur Finvestt Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru focused on the factors driving the capital market. He also briefed the audience on the various aspects which need to be looked into before making any investments. Mr.Jacob Thomas, Delivery Manager, TCS Ltd, Germany spoke on block chain and cryptocurrency. His talk covered the nuances of blockchain technology and its application in various aspects of management. There were about 50 research papers which were presented by participants from India and abroad.
 
The valedictory address was delivered by Ms.Rajni Thakur, Chief Economist, RBL Bank Ltd, Mumbai. She provided an outlook on the current state of the financial markets and discussed how the global pandemic has impacted the economies in large and the functioning of financial markets. She was emphatic that fundamentals of the economy have started to rebound and the same was reflected in the performance of the financial markets in India.

Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade releases Dr.NRP's book

SDM Educational Trust Chairman Dr. D Veerendra Heggade releases the 4th edition book 'Derivatives and Risk Management' by Dr. N R Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mysore. The book “Fundamentals and Financial Derivatives” was first bought out in 2008 by Wiley publishers. The book has attained popularity among students and faculty alike. The 2nd and 3rd edition of the book was bought out in 2012 and 2016 respectively. The 4th edition of the book has come out now under the revised title “Derivatives and Risk Management”. Tata McGraw Hill have taken over the rights of publication.

Toastmaster Club Activities

  
SDMIMD Toastmasters works with a shared vision of Toastmasters International and encourages the students to achieve their potential. SDMIMD Toastmasters Club is heading towards a milestone of the 100th meeting on December 12, 2021. To make each meeting count, several educational sessions were organized in the month of October.
 
SDMIMD Toastmasters Club organized an interactive educational session on "Creative Table Topics" on 3rd October 2021, by a well-known Toastmaster of the Mysuru area, TM Azharnaveed Kairdi. Through this session, club members encountered abundant ideas for table topics, where each speaker will be given 2 minutes to speak on that topic.
 
Apart from the regular weekly meetings, our club also conducted an educational session on the topic “Mastering Presentation” on 17th October 2021, by Sandipa Maheswari, DTM. This session was addressed by SDMIMD students of PGDM Batch 2021-2023. One of the essential skills for managerial students is presenting. DTM Sandipa shared the insights to make a good presentation a great presentation by following a few basics of presentation. The session had more than 50 participants from SDMIMD.
 
For the 97th anniversary of Toastmasters International on October 22nd, 2021, Club President TM Nandha Kumar and Club secretary TM Sai Sri Harsha organized a special meet to share the numerous accolades the club has won last year and the forthcoming awards for the club. This session was conducted in person on the SDMIMD campus. 

Online event on 'New Paradigms in Leadership'

The 1-Year PGCM Batch 21-22 participated in the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) online workshop on the New Paradigms in Leadership held on November 2, 2021.
 
The event was conducted by Mr Thomas Welsh, Leading Expert in Releasing Potential of Managers and Leaders, REGENESIS, United Kingdom. It was moderated by Dr Augustus G S Azariah, Chairman, HR and Women Empowerment & Leadership Expert Committee BCIC and HR Leader at IBM India/South Asia. The talk was made available to the students under the aegis of the BCIC-SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management.
 
The students found the session helpful, particularly in respect of aspects involving how managers and leaders can equip themselves with the changing dimensions of leadership. The insightful discussion gave insights to the students on the nuances of leadership.

First aid and CPR Training for Young Managers

SDMIMD organized a session on First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for the students and staff members on 26th October 2021. The introductory session of the training program was delivered by Dr Aravind R M, Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon from Cauvery Heart and Multispeciality Hospital, Mysore.
 
Dr Aravindam explained the DOs and DONTs of first aid and laid emphasis on the importance of First Aid in saving lives. Basic first aid and CPR skills are invaluable because it lets us ease and help someone until support arrives.
 
The Session on CPR was delivered by Dr Vaidyanathan R, Consultant Intensivist and Director, Critical Care and Emergency Services from Cauvery Heart and Multispeciality Hospital, Mysore.
 
The sessions were followed by a practical demonstration of First aid and CPR by a team of Instructors of Cauvery Heart and Multispeciality Hospital and EC Members of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Mysore City Branch.
 
Earlier, the team of doctors and medical staff of Cauvery hospital was welcomed by Prof. C.V. Sridhar, Asst. Professor, SDMIMD.

Certificates to the Overseas Students of UoM

A function to award certificates to successful candidates of the second edition of the Developing Business Excellence (DBE) program for overseas students was held in the SDMIMD campus recently.
 
Dr S.J. Manjunath, Co-ordinator of Third Sector Research Centre; Professor of Business Administration; and, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, University of Mysore, Mysore, expressed the view that learning from the DBE Program about the best practices concerning social responsibility and the business environment of any country will help expand the knowledge horizon. Such learning makes us connect to the contemporary world and relate to the research domain. He lauded SDMIMD for launching this unique program and helping overseas students to know India and its culture, business environment and concern to society. Read More

The overseas students from Afghanistan, Namibia, Cambodia, Botswana, and Yemen, pursuing master’s program at the University of Mysore, Mysuru, were nominated by the Third Sector Research Centre to attend the 2 Week ‘Developing Business Excellence – with a sense of social responsibility program designed and offered for overseas students studying in India by SDMIMD, Mysore. A month back, the first edition of the program had been conducted for overseas students at St Philomena’s College Mysore.
 
Director of SDMIMD Dr. N.R. Parasuraman outlined the objective behind the program and how it seeks to bring home to overseas students the twin goals of SDMIMD – excellence in management education coupled with imbibing ethical and responsible practices. Dr Parasuraman appreciated the Third Sector Department of the University of Mysore for this initiative in nominating these students
 
The faculty members who delivered the sessions distributed the certificate to the 25 participants who completed the program's evaluation criteria.
 
Course participants shared their learning from the program during the event.
 
Earlier, Dr. Sunil MV, Head – Academic Administration, welcomed the gathering. Dr. S.N. Prasad presented the vote of thanks. Ms. Rekha Ganapathy, Coordinator of the program, moderated the certificate awarding ceremony.

Siliconindia, a leading business, and entrepreneurship US-INDIA Magazine, ranked SDMIMD at 10th among 20 institutions in A+++, the highest grade. The survey has listed SDMIMD in second place among the Top 10 B-Schools in Academic Excellence; fifth place among the Top 10 B-Schools in Placement; and  2nd among the Top 10 B-Schools in South Zone.
