SDMites get selected for NIPM National Quiz 2019

National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) Karnataka Chapter organized the quiz competition on August 25, 2019, at RV Institute fo Management, Bangalore, to select the candidates for NIPM 2019 National Quiz. Ms Juhi Prabhu and Ms Karshini Tygarajan from PGDM 2018-20 Batch won the NIPM Karnataka Chapter quiz and got selected for the national level which will be held during September 2019.

Workshop on Conducting an Effective Interview

Conducting interviews in organizations for selecting the right candidates for specific job requirements requires understanding of specific aspects that revolve around the interview process. It is not a mechanical process but involves deep understanding of certain critical issues. Keeping this in mind, SDMIMD conducted a company specific program ‘Workshop on Conducting an Effective Interview’ for Theorem India Pvt Ltd. on 29 and 30 August 2019. The two-day workshop covered various issues in the context of pre-interview preparation, managing the Interview process, and, post interview Process, were deliberated. The workshop included role play activities, case study discussions and group activities, to sensitize the participants about various nuances of conducting the interview process in a positive manner. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta and Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor(s) in the area of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, SDMIMD were the resource persons. Prof. Malathi Sriram, was the Program Coordinator.

Certificate Awarding for Sports Course Students

 
Center for Sports & Management Studies (CS&MS) and Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) had organized the Certificate Award Ceremony for the Second batch of Post Graduate Program in Sports Management (PGPSM), on Thursday, August 22, 2019. 
 
Former International Tennis Player and Coach Mr. Enrico Piperno, Founder, CS&MS awarded the certificates to the PGPSM 2018-19 Batch who have successfully completed the course and delivered the ceremonial address. 
 
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, in his address gave an overview about the contemporary situation of the sports industry and discussed on the new avenues for the young sports course graduates. 
 
Earlier Dr. H. Gayathri, Program Director – PGPSM; and Deputy Director- SDMIMD, welcomed the gathering and presented the report of the PGPSM 2018-19 batch academic activities. 
 
Faculty Members, staff, parents of the graduating batch and invitees were present.

73rd Independence Day Celebration

 
 
Dr. B. Venkatraja, Assistant Professor - Economics, SDMIMD, hoisted the Tricolour during the 73rd Independence Day Celebration and addressed the gathering. 
 
Dr. Venkatraja urged the students to ponder over clear divide between the rich and poor even after 72 years and even today India is home to over one third of the poor in the world. Even though we export food still India is suffering from starvation. With the relative data on the economic situation of the country, Dr. Venkatraja called upon the students to be responsible citizens and sensible to the society. 
 
The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets and community breakfast at the Institute Mess.

LIFE Celebrated Independence Day at School

The SDMites initiative - Library Initiative For Education (LIFE) which established the Library for Aadharsha Vidyalaya School of Jockey Quarters, Mysore, celebrated the 73rd Independence Day with the children and teachers. Prof. Kannadas, Faculty - Finance, SDMIMD, was the Chief Guest and honoured students who completed 10th Class with Distinction during last year. SDMites were part of cultural celebration and distributed sweets to the children. 

Microfinance study field visit

The PGDM 2018-20 Batch students from Microfinance specialization had an opportunity to interact with the beneficiaries of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) in Lakshmipura, Mysuru District. The filed visit organized by the course faculty Prof.  S. Kannadas, helped the students to visit the project location and small-scale business establishments of the beneficiaries of the scheme. 
 
The students concerned collected primary data about the SHG/JLG/PBG group formation and the training provided by SKDRDP for their upliftment of their standard of living. Further, the representative from SKDRDP provided information about the awareness programmes of women empowerment and various installation / establishment / training support extended by the organization for - solar water heater, gober gas plants, cattle rearing / poultry farms and the monthly books published by SKDRDP for the awareness of women empowerment.
 
Later, students were taken to the business establishments and explained the business & marketing process of the products manufactured by the establishments.

Workshop on Consultancy Management

Dr R. Kasthuri Rangan, Strategic Management Consultant, conducted a workshop on 'Consultancy Management' for the PGDM 2018-20 Batch on August 12, 2019. In his interaction with the students, Dr R. Kasthuri Rangan gave insights on consultancy business and the opportunities available to build a career in this field. Further, the workshop educated the student participants on the unorganized consulting market in India and the performance of major consultancy business extended to the US. The workshop held the students to understand various frameworks and the discussion focused on Visibility Credibility Matrix and Strategic Agility Model. The second half of the workshop focused on the management consulting process in a firm and how to write a consulting proposal. The concepts were further detailed through case analysis and application of concepts on how to write a proposal. The session was interactive and interesting for the students as they received an enriching insight on consultancy management.

Entrepreneur Experience by Pavan G Ranga

Mr Pavan G Ranga, Chairman, Rangsons Schuster Technologies Pvt. Ltd (RST) and CEO, Rangsons Electronics; the third -generation of the N Ranga Rao family that runs the NR group of companies and Member of Governing Board of SDMIMD addressed the PGDM 2019-21 Batch on August 12, 2019. SDMites had a chance to interact with the young entrepreneur who has transformed the Rangsons Schuster Technologies as a globally focused EMS provider. 
 
In his address, Mr Pavan gave insights on his journey as an entrepreneur and emphasised on “Nothing is wrong or right. Choose a thing and make it right”. Mr Pavan called upon the young managers to follow their passion and choose a career of their choice. The interaction on the different facets of the entrepreneurship with students made the speaker to detail the success journey on how he made RST a globally focused EMS provider.
