Foundation Day Lecture

Founder and Chairman, Narayana Hrudayalaya group of hospitals Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty opined that the health sector would drive the world economy in future. Delivering the Foundation Day Lecture at the campus on July 21, 2012, he advised the students to consider the growth factor of any industry before opting for their career. Health sector is one among them with a size of $ 2.5 Trillion, which is second after agro industry in India. Earlier Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Chairman, SDM Educational Trust, in his speech extolled Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty for initiating Yashaswini Scheme by which lakhs of farmers from rural region could be able to avail medical care in the State.

Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, welcomed the gathering and shared the journey of SDMIMD from 1993. Dr. H. Gayathri, Dean Administration, introduced Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty to the audience. Prof. M.R. Suresh proposed the vote of thanks. The lecture was followed by the question and answers session which was interactive, informative and illustrative.

Seminar on Traditional Health Systems

A seminar on ‘Opportunities and challenges for traditional health systems’ was held at SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) on July 10, 2012.

G.N. Srikantaiah, Director, Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidda and Homeopathy (AYUSH), Government of Karnataka, who was the guest of honour, inaugurated the seminar.

SDM Institute for Management Development (SDM-IMD), Mysore; the Department of AYUSH, Government of Karnataka; Global Alliance of Traditional Health Systems (GATHS), Mysore; and Mind Body Spirit Society of India (MBSSI), Mysore, had jointly organised the seminar.

International Symposium on “Doing Business in India”

The symposium was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the luminaries on January 9, 2012 at SDMIMD Campus. The event was declared open by Prof. S. Prabhakar, Secretary, SDM Educational Trust. Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director of SDMIMD, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Sid Mookerji, CEO, Software Paradigm Infotech (SPI) in his keynote address highlighted three issues - the key factors that led to India's growth, Cultural differences between India and the West, and his own experience in ‘Doing Business in India’ through SPI. He also spoke of India's first rank as a country through the Global Services Location Index, through its high scores on people skills and availability. It was a proud moment to note that India ranks third on FDI confidence index, trailing only US and China. With various anecdotes and incidents lacing his speech, Mr. Mookerji kept the crowds enthralled.
