Talk on 'IT Strategies for Startups'

Dr. Ashok Rao, former Head of the Network Project, Centre for Electronics Design and Technology  (CEDT), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, was on campus on February 3, 2016. Dr. Rao delivered his talk focusing on IT Strategies for Startups with illustrious examples from his experiences. The talk was attended by SDMites of IT Strategies for Startups (ITSS) elective course of PGDM Program.

Invited talk by Mr. Kiran Bettadapur

Mr. Kiran Bettadapur, Angel Investor, Entrepreneur, Lawyer, delivered the invited talk on January 28, 2016 at SDMIMD. Mr. Kiran deeply engaged the students by speaking on innovation-driven entrepreneurship. He advised future entrepreneurs to follow: PSPS&D model - which is Profitability, Scalability, Predictability, Sustainability and Derisk. He said, with this model, the entrepreneurs will be able to look at the long term view of their startups. Further, he shared little known insights about the strategies and tactics employed by successful firms such as Google, Facebook, eBay, YouTube, Toyota. Mr. Kiran’s talk made the students think on the lines of what an investor would like to have a look at before investing in a venture.

‘Deep Driving Desire will Create Willpower’ – Mr. Sanjay Anandaram

Mr. Sanjay Anandaram, Venture Partner in Seed Fund & Adjunct Faculty at INSEAD Singapore, inaugurated Naissance 2016 on January 27, 2016 at SDMIMD and shared the lessons he learned in his life. Some of his lessons were to never stop learning, to embrace uncertainty, to develop a passion, to be confident and humble, to be focussed and to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Mr. Sanjay described the essence of entrepreneurial mindset as your deep driving desire which creates the willpower. This willpower pushes you to you do deeds which in turn becomes your destiny. The students were enthralled as the session was buoyant and interactive with students asking very specific to personal questions. 

Talk on 'Preparation of B-Plan"

Mr. Rajesh, Founder - Hightway Delite and Alumnus of SDMIMD delivered talk on "Preparation of B-Plan" on January 9, 2016. The talk was organizedby Swayam - the e-Cell of SDMites under the series “How to Prepare a B-plan”. Mr. Rajesh with his wide experience in various field like IT, investment etc., focused his talk on the nitty-gritty of business plan with the template that could be used even for the seed- funding for a start-up. The talk was very informative for the students and gave a ready template to plan for entrepreneurship initiatives.

Talk on IT and Knowledge Outsourcing by Mr. Kulkarni

Mr. Anant Kulkarni , who owns  Chestnut India Solutions Pvt Ltd, Mysore addressed the students of SDMIMD regarding IT Outsourcing on December 12, 2015. Besides discussing the models and strategies adopted by Indian IT outsourcing companies, the speaker also explained the processes involved in KPO with emphasis on Medical Coding. Mr. Anant’s talk also helped the participants understand the opportunities that exists in Medical Coding /Billing, Rural BPO etc.

Talk on 'ERP' by Mr. Sanjai of SAP

Mr. Sanjai K, Head, Asia Pacific & Japan, SAP Solution Delivery Center, was at SDMIMD on December 3, 2015 to deliver invited talk on ERP. The talk focused on cloud, big data analytics and the future of ERP. Mr. Sanjai interacted with the students and shared his insights on emerging trends in the ERP space with them.

Guest lecture by Dr. Enrico C. Yee, Jr.

Dr. Enrico C. Yee, Jr.,  Chair, Department of Business Administration, College of Governance and Business, University of South-eastern Philippines addressed SDMIMD students on the principles and practices of Corporate Finance. He detailed the current practices adopted by Companies in Philippines. Dr. Enrico suggested that the principles of managing funds by companies can also be adopted by students to manage one's finances. His talk a brief account on the type of industries operating in Philippines, the Government's policies on FDI, the opportunities and challenges of doing business in Philippines.

Talk by Dr. Rao from Botswana University

Dr. K.S. Madhava Rao, Professor of Statistics, Botswana University, Botswana delivered talk on "Probability model for market sentiments” on November 21, 2015. Dr. Rao focused his talk on the probability model for market sentiments of equity prices/indices and addressed statistical issues related to model. Dr. Rao elaborated how the model developed by him could be used to analyse stock market sentiments.  Further, he empirically demonstrated the analysis of BSE benchmark SENSEX and NSE benchmark NIFTY with respect to the model. On the whole, the speaker threw light on the new methodology to measure volatility index.
