Microfinance Workshop Inauguration by Mr. Udaya Kumar

Mr. Udaya Kumar, MD & CEO, Grameen Financial Services inaugurated the pre-conference workshop on “micro Finance for Macro Development” on November 22,2018 and delivered the keynote talk. He said that “India still has a large population that belongs to the bottom of the pyramid and inclusion does not mean having a bank account, but it has more to do with a wide range of financial services and security such as insurance, health care, education, it is beyond that. Microfinance industry is indispensable for a country like India because it caters to a large set of people who are at the bottom of the pyramid. This industry is aiding the economic growth of the Nation by catering to a humongous population that is unserved or unserved”.  

Talk on Investment and Capital Market Operations

Mr. Gopalakrishnan Karuppiah, Managing Director, Gulf Crescent - Oman & UAE, was the speaker for the invited talk organized on November 20, 2018 to the batch of PGDM 2018-20. The speaker presented an overview of investment and capital market operations. The step-by-step approach followed by the speaker introduced the different types of investment; overview of the capital market; role of management and regulators in a capital market; functioning of securities market; and, significant role played by documentation in the entire process of investment. The discussion on how to invest in the securities market and how to evaluate the company’s performance for making good investment decisions was the highlight of the talk. The session was followed by questions and answers.

Talk on ICICI Directo StockMIND

Mr. Girish R, Regional Manager - Karnataka, ICICI Direct Centre for Financial Learning, Bengaluru, delivered invited talk on 'ICICI Directo StockMIND'  annual nationwide virtual stock market competition for college students, on November 2, 2018 the PGDM 2018-10. The speaker demonstrated on how the StockMIND’s real-world trading environment has been instrumental in sharpening the analytical, decision making and quick-thinking skills of students. Further, the speaker opined that the virtual stock market provides students a platform to develop and sharpen skills that are highly valued by an industry and goes a long way in shaping their careers in the equity markets. Mr. Girish said that student involvement in such initiatives will help them in developing positive financial habits and to prepare for the future.

Invited talk by Mr. Nagi Rao, Founder EqualizeRCM

Mr. Nagi Rao, Founder, Chairman, Austin, TX; and  Founder, Chairman of EqualizeRCM Services; delivered an invited talk to the PGDM 2017-19 Batch on October 12, 2018 at SDMIMD. 
 
Mr. Nagi Rao spoke on how healthcare management has involved over the years. Mr. Rao stressed on how RCM is used as a corporate-level maintenance strategy to optimize the maintenance program of a company or facility. His highly interesting talk evoked a number of questions from the audience and on the whole the session was highly interesting and instructive

Swayam E-Cell Talk by Mr. S. Parthasarathy

Mr. S. Parthasarathy, Founder & Director of Aedion Infotech Pvt Ltd; Head, Alumni Relations @ IIMB; and author of the book "Unmet Needs of Entrepreneurship" was the invited speaker for the Swayam E-Cell Talk organized on October 10, 2018. Mr. Vijay Krishnamurthy, Founder, Groundstrokes, was the special invitee to share his entrepreneurial experience in Sports Academy. 
 
Mr. Parthasarathy focused his talk on the financial, legal and managerial aspects in starting the business and aspects involved in having a business model for execution. Mr. Parthasarathy explained the feasibility of an idea and it's analysis taking the examples from his life.

Prerana Alumni Lecture Series - Mr. Suraj Shetty

Mr. Suraj Shetty, Vice President - Strategy, Primesoft; and alumnus of PGDM 2003-05 batch, was on campus to deliver a harangue on the topic 'IT Services Marketing' for the 2nd Year PGDM Students. With his rich experience of more than 10 years in the IT Service industry, Mr. Suraj explained the different types of IT services a company can offer. Mr. Suraj stressed the importance of cloud in the IT industry and the use of email marketing. The session had a detailed discussion on how to convert potential customers in B2B marketing.

Prerana Alumni Lecture Series - Mr. Devansh Joshi

Mr. Devansh Joshi, Senior Manager – Planning & Strategy, Medlife, an alumnus of PGDM 2009-11 Batch, delivered talk on “Start-Ups - Eco-System & Strategy” on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Mr. Joshi threw light on favourable customer centric policies adopted by various companies such as Amazon, Flipkart etc. Further, the speaker talked about pull strategies such as deep discounts, brand building and gaining trust, introducing private label products such as high margins, controlled inventory, and increase in profitability. The discussion on the business models of Swiggy and Medilife; and, the importance of customer acquisition cost, average invoice value, private label margin, LTV, etc. The talk was organized as an apart of Prerana Alumni Lecture Series.
