‘Passion’ is the Mantra for Success

On June 18, 2015 a life timer at TCS, Ms. Anjana K.R., General Manager – HR, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Bengaluru, gave a perspective of TCS as an organization and shared her views on what it takes to succeed as a professional. Ms. Anjana had an interactive session during which she articulated the skills and abilities management graduates should have to succeed in the workplace. Ms. Anjana emphasized that to be valuable in corporate life we should follow our passion.

Learning from Success Stories

Mr. Sunil D.A.G. Kutty, Head – HR, Ujjivan Financial Services Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, delivered the invited talk on ‘SFB – Managing Transition @ Ujjivan’ on June 18, 2015 at the Institute auditorium. Mr. Sunil shared the success story of Ujjivan with the PGDM 2015-17 attending the Orientation Lecture Series 2015. The students were able to amalgamate the best practices of Ujjivan in this lecture. Decentralized management team, strong corporate governance, geographically diversified business with localized management, robust risk Management, strong IT enabled (backed), excellent relationship with investors, good ROI, good relationship with local Regulators & Administration, are some of the areas touched upon by Mr. Sunil during his talk. 

‘Think Big’ says Mr. Ram Mohan from Mindtree

Mr. Ram Mohan, EVP and Head (IMS & EIM Services), Mindtree Ltd., Bengaluru, gave an engaging talk on “Lessons from his Life experiences” on June 18, 2015. With examples from industry and his own life, Mr. Ram articulated and stressed that the students should take ownership, be passionate, work hard, work professionally and unsupervised. Further, he advised the young minds to ‘Think Big’ and have tenacity of purpose to succeed in life. 

Talk on ‘Indian Society in Transition’

Prof. A.V Narasimhamurthy, Eminent Historian and Chairman, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Mysuru, gave glimpses of Indian Society in Transition from 17th Century to the Digital World, during his talk organized on June 18, 2015 at the Institute auditorium. In his talk, Prof. Narasimhamurthy, linked the parallel areas of history and management; and seamlessly integrated the concepts of Management topic with that of history. The historian advised the students to stay focused and said, hardwork and perseverance will help to achieve many things in life.

Workshop on Competency Skills for Young Managers

 
‘Viewing things in multiple angles and crystallizing thoughts will help to face the competitive world and develop the ability to manage risk’ thus said Mr. Praveen Kamath, General Manager & Global Head - Talent Transformation, BPO/KPO, Wipro Corporation, Bengaluru, during the workshop on “Emerging Competency requirement in the global environment” organized as a part of Orientation Program on June 17, 2015 for the new batch of PGDM 2015-17. 
Giving tips for placement preparation he said ‘to be the best and brutal in competition and winners all the way’. Further, he advised SDMites to get equipped with the thorough basic knowledge of all the key subjects and to develop the ability to present to groups; and how these can make a big difference at their workplace. Mr. Kamath also touched upon HR Analytics.

Competency Skills for Young Managers

Mr. Guruvayurappan P.V., Vice President & Head-HR, Omega Healthcare Management Services Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, was the invited speaker for the orientation lecture organized on June 17, 2015. Mr. Gurvayurappan focused his lecture on qualities the management students must imbibe in the campus to meet corporate expectations. Further, he stressed on right attitude and effective communication as instruments of success in personal and professional life as well. The senior executive called on to the students to emulate 'role model' concept to be a successful entrepreneur.

‘Think Out-of-the Box’ said HR Head of J.K. Tyres, Mysuru

‘Your loyalty must be first to the profession, the organisation and then to yourself’ said Mr. Srinivasa B.S., Chief General Manager – HR & IR, J.K. Tyre & Industries Limited, VTP, Mysuru, during the invited talk on the topic ‘Expectations of the management from young management graduates’ on June 16, 2015. Mr. Srinivasa advised the freshers to ‘start behaving like a successful person outwardly by dress, conduct, etc. Do not stop at that, learn continuously.  You will certainly be a successful HR professional in days to come’. He advised the students to accept the change and think out-of-the-box to be successful in corporate life.

Invited talk by Mr. Mohan R. Lavi

‘Accounting Standards: Past, Present and Future’ was the topic of the talk delivered by Mr. Mohan R. Lavi, Chartered Accountant, Bengaluru on June 16, 2015, organized as a part of Orientation Lecture Series 2015 for the new batch of PGDM 2015-17. The invited talk touched upon history of accounting principles, the development and changes in accounting practices, Indian accounting system and finally, gave the fundamentals of financial accounting. The speaker, Mr. Mohan provided tips to the young managers to learn Financial and Managerial accounting/accounts in effective manner.
