With a view to hone teaching skills and keep pace with changing trends in management education, SDMIMD started off with Faculty Development Program on May 10, 2012. The week long program scheduled from May 10 to 16 2012, attracted Faculty Members from number of Colleges within the State of Karnataka. Dr N.R. Parasuraman Director SDMIMD, while speaking on the occasion of inauguration said – “in order to keep up the learning interests of the students, faculty members need to continuously exercise innovations in teaching and demonstrate contemporary business cases. Students must get acquainted with analyzing techniques”. |

| Workshop on e-Learning with MOODLE |

SDMIMD conducted a two day workshop on E Learning with MOODLE Installation, Customization, Course and content upload, Online Quiz and Result Analysis, during May 4 & 5, 2012. Dr N.R. Parasuraman Director inaugurated with formal welcome and stressed upon need of eLearning. Dr. Sunil M.V, the workshop coordinator shared the design of this hands-on workshop. Prof. Malathi Sriram, Prof. M. Minhaj and Dr. Sunil M.V. were the resource persons of the workshop. |

| Workshop on R-Excel |

The Hands-on Workshop on R-Excel was held during June 01 & 02, 2012 at SDMIMD Mysore. Dr S Ravi from Department of Statistics, University of Mysore, inaugurated the workshop and delivered the Keynote address on “The Cult of Statistical Significance”. Dr Ravi called on Researchers to give adequate importance while understanding a problem, defining objectives and connect themselves deeply with the dynamics of Society, while collecting the research data. Earlier, Dr N.R. Parasurman, Director of the Institute welcomed the participants. The researchers are expected to be benefited with a wide variety of advanced statistical techniques in Microsoft Excel and to move further by using freeware add-in. Prof. Malathi Sriram, Professor-Systems; Prof. J. Balaji, Professor - Quantitative Methods, and Dr. Srilakshminarayana, Professor - Statistics, of SDMIMD, Mysore were the resource persons. |

| MDP on “Finance for non-Finance Executives” |

with a view to survive and grow steadily in domestic and international business. Non Finance Executives need to know the basic nuances of Finance and its Management. To cater information on this very important area, a short Management Development Program was conducted on 11th and 12th 2012 at SDMIMD. Dr Ullas Rao, Asst Professor – Finance coordinated the Program. |

| Workshop on Social Media |

The institute had organised a one-day workshop on Social Media on 2nd June 2012. The workshop which had participation from both Industry and academia was facilitated by Prof. Malathi Sriram, Dr. Neetu Ganapathy and Prof. Mohamed Minhaj. During the workshop, Mr. Danny G Sam, Director-Operations of Adroitte, Bangalore discussed various aspects related to building social media presence for companies and Mr. Vinay, Founder, RoyalMysoreWalks explained how he leveraged social media for his entrepreneurial advantage. |

| CPBM Concludes…. |

The theoretical sessions of Certificate Program in Business Management, the Executive version of our flagship program Post Graduation Diploma in Management (PGDM) concluded on May 27, 2012. The Participating Business executives are now on their 10 hours of project assignment. The pedagogy designed for the working executives was interactive and application-oriented to encourage participatory learning. The program was intended to gear participants to face intense competition in the external environment in which they operate. |

Prof. Mohan N.J. Monteiro is the former Professor & Head of MBA department at Vidya Vikas Institute of Engineering & Technology, Bangalore. Prior to this, he was Director, MBA Institution, Acharya Institute of Technology, Bangalore.
He has also served as visiting professor at several B-Schools offering MBA Degree for the past 14 years. His areas of interest include Marketing, International business, Banking and International Finance.
He has over 9 years of corporate experience. Prof. Monteiro has also worked as consultant to a number of organizations in India and abroad. He is on the Board of Examination of several Colleges and Universities. He has a Ph.D degree in Business Administration, and also holds MBA and M.Com degrees from University of Mysore. |
Abhijith Seetharam is an Industrial Engineer with a post-graduate degree in Business Management. He also has to his credit Certificates of Excellence in project analysis and financial modeling. He has worked in various roles ranging from being an Engineer at an “old economy” tyre manufacturing company to working as Project Finance Consultant at an infrastructure development firm to flourishing as a successful Operations Strategist at a large software services company. He is experienced in the areas of project financing, transportation economics, PPP structuring, top-down budget control, and design of strategy-to-operations execution, among others. His intellectual interests are copious and varied and encompass the study of Ecological Economics, Development Economics and Sustainability & Energy Economics, with analytical emphasis on macro-dynamics and trends. |

| PGDM 2012-14 Batch Takes Off |
|
SDMIMD’s flagship, two-year full-time PGDM program took off on June 4, 2012. An elaborate Orientation programme has been organized from June 4 to June 13, 2012 to prepare the students for the 2 year program and expose them to the nuances of business leadership. The Inaugural session on June 4, 2012 was graced by Prof. S. Prabhakar, Secretary - SDM Education Trust, who conveyed the Chairman, Dr. Veerendra Heggade’s message to the students and explained the ideals of Dharmastala. Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director and Dr. H. Gayathri, Dean – Administration gave the students an insight into the two years of academic life on campus. Prof. S.N. Prasad, Chairman-Admissions, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the rigorous admission process that SDMIMD adopted in the selection of the batch. Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Chairperson - PGDM explained about the finer points of the Orientation program. The first orientation lecture was a talk on “Business Excellence and Customer Satisfaction- a Holistic Approach” by Mr. A.N. Chandramouli, Managing Director, Starrag India, Bangalore. The Orientation programme will conclude on June 13, 2012.

- Prof. Neetu Ganapathy, Assistant Professor of Business Communication and Systems, SDMIMD, Mysore, has been awarded PhD in Business Administration by the Kuvempu University, Shimoga, for her thesis Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Implementation in SMEs: Issues, Challenges and Prospects.
- Prof. Ullas Rao has been awarded PhD in Commerce from University of Mysore, Mysore, for his thesis on Posterior analysis of mergers and acquisitions in International Financial Scenario during the last decade.
- Mr. Sunil M V, Librarian, SDMIMD, has been awarded PhD in Library and Information Science from University of Mysore, Mysore, for his thesis entitled An analytical study of OSS (Open Source Software) for college libraries.
