Webinar on Marketing and Social Enterprises

A webinar session was conducted on the theme  Marketing and Social Enterprises by Dr M R Suresh for the incoming PGDM students. The session focused on the importance of integrating the Bottom of Pyramid in the market system to make globalisation meaningful. The poor enthusiastically participate in the market as per research studies. In many situations, giving examples, Dr Suresh highlighted that  the Bottom of Pyramid markets became the main business of organisations. A distinction was made between socially responsible businesses and social enterprises. The social enterprise, an emerging form, applies marketing and business principles to achieve social goals. Increasingly sustainability is also getting incorporated in social enterprises. In addition, in the post pandemic era, social and sustainability dimensions are part of brand evaluation by consumers. There are well known brands developed social enterprises in the food and beverage sector. Social  enterprises consciously adopt such practices addressing triple bottomline dimensions. Dr Suresh also indicated opportunities for social enterprises in the startup ecosystem with favourable government policies.

The Education World B-School Ranking 2022 has ranked SDMIMD in 22nd among 64 Top Private B Schools in India; 4th among 13 Private B Schools in Karnataka; and, 7th among 10 Private B Schools in 'Infrastructure' category.

Dr. Sunil M.V., Head - Academic Administration, SDMIMD, Mysore, has been awarded a 'Certificate of Expertise' in academic libraries by Knimbus - the leading digital library platform. The award is for exemplary achievements and outstanding work in the field of technology adoption in the field of library services. Dr. Akhtar Parvez, Former, Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I) and HoD, Central Library, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, was the guest of honor.

Webinar on 'Stress and its Nature'

An interactive webinar was organized for the PGDM 2022-2024 Batch on the topic 'Stress and its Nature' on June 4, 2022. The resource person for the session Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Professor - OB/HR, SDMIMD, started the session with a discussion on different viewpoints about stress and its nature. The potential sources of stress, which individuals generally experience at work and in their personal lives, were discussed. Dr. Mousumi highlighted the consequences of stress (both positive and negative) and finally, discussed the individual strategies, such as time management techniques, physical exercise, and meditation.

Business Landscape for PGDM 2021-23

Business Landscape, a knowledge expansion exercise was conducted by the SDMIMD faculty for the students entering the Second Year after their corporate internship.  The week-long program from June 2, 2022, included an introduction about the contemporary topics on - Life-changing Technologies in India; FinTech, and EVs et al, Is eLearning a boon or bane for lifelong learning and to drive your career? Work From Home (WFH) is a bane or a boon for a professional in modern times. 
 
The faculty introduction was followed by the panel discussion by the group of students on the topics identified in line with the contemporary topics - AI and Ethics - Can they blend? - Is there a debate? Upset the Status Quo  - Disruptive Innovation as a core competence; How important is statistics for me in my career? Is it worth learning deep into statistics or is it better to learn using the latest available statistical packages?.
 
The Business Landscape Course was conceived and anchored by Prof Prasad SN and actively participated by several faculty members of SDMIMD.

Program on ‘Essentials of Management’ – Certificate Awarding

The Value Add-on Program on ‘Essentials of Management’ for the Master of Commerce [M Com] students of SDM Mahaila Makkala Kuta [SDM MMK] was designed and offered by SDM Institute for Management Development [SDMIMD], Mysore, from May 16 to 31, 2022. The Certificate Awarding the students who have successfully completed the program was held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. 
 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mysore, said ‘the opportunities to update the skills for young graduates are abundant. Students must have direction and determination with a focused approach to reaching their destiny. A program like PEM will give them the direction and the determination to move ahead is within’.  
 
Prof. Sainath Malligemadu, Principal, SDM MMK, Mysore, thanked SDMIMD faculty members who delivered the sessions and the authorities for the institute. Further, he mentioned that such add-on programs will help the students to learn beyond the prescribed syllabus and will greatly help to meet the industry requirements. 
 
‘The 32 hours of the intensive program covering Analytics, Finance, HR, and General Management, focused on the essential skills to make the students be in the learning curve to enter the corporate world’ thus said Dr. Sunil M.V., Head – Academic Administration, SDMIMD Mysore and presented 34 students for receiving the merit certificate.  
 
Dr. S.N. Prasad, Deputy Director, presented the vote of thanks. Faculty members and staff were present.  

Webinar on ‘Consumer Insights and its Importance’

‘In a competitive business environment, the survival and growth of any organization depend on how well they understand their customers’ thus said Dr. Jayakrishnan S., Faculty – Marketing, SDMIMD, Mysore, while discussing the concept of consumer insights and the relevance of consumer insights for companies during the Webinar organized for PGDM 2022-2024 Batch on May 27, 2022. Dr. Jayakrishnan shared the methods to gain consumer insight and its applications were also shared with the participants. The interaction between the students and the speaker was interesting. 

Certificate Awarding for the 4th Batch DBE Students

The program Developing Business Excellence [DBE] – with a Sense of Social Responsibility, designed for the overseas students studying in India concluded on May 30, 2022. The 4th Batch of the DBE program had students represented from 9 countries. 21 students received the Program Certificate from the Chief Guest Dr. G.R. Janardhana, Director, International Center and Professor of Botany, University of Mysore, Mysuru. 
 
In his address, Dr. Janardhana urged the foreign students to use the opportunities and the expertise of the institute of repute when they are in India for enhancing their skills and knowledge gain. Further, he appreciated the effort of SDMIMD in building awareness about India and its culture with a sense of social responsibility among foreign nationals. 
 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S.N. Prasad, Deputy Director, SDMIMD, Mysore, called upon the participants to be aware of the international environment and developments. He said it must keep us on the path of learning cure and it should be lifelong.
