Condolence to Former Director Dr. A.K. Rao

SDMIMD family expresses deep condolence on the sudden demise of SDMIMD’s Former Director and Professor – Quantitative Techniques and Operations Research Dr. A.K. Rao. He had served SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysore, as the Dean of the Academics during 1997 to 1999; and then as Director of the Institute between 1999 and 2003.

71st Republic Day Celebration

SDMites celebrated the 71st Republic Day with duty, devotion and dedication. Prof. L. Gandhi, Faculty – HR/OB, SDMIMD, hoisted the tri-colour and addressed the gathering. Prof. Gandhi highlighted the importance of Constitution of India which came into effect on 26th January 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. Further, recalled the contributions of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar the major architect of the Constitution of India, which gives Indians the fundamental rights - Right to Equality, Right to Freedom, Right against Exploitation, Right to Freedom of Religion, Rights to minorities (cultural and educational rights), Right to Constitutional Remedies, Right to Information Act. Also shared the Google's doodle which was designed by Singapore-based artist Meroo Seth, brings together the rich cultural heritage of the country. 
 
The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets and community breakfast at the Institute Mess.

Technical talk on Cyber Security

Silicon – SDMites System and Analytics Club organized a technical talk on "Cyber Security” by Mr. K.S. Sudheer, Member, CII IT & ITES Panel; and, Associate Solicitor, METI M2M India Pvt Ltd., on January 25, 2020, at SDMIMD.  

Workshop by Exchange Faculty from France

Prof. Charlotte Fontan Sers, Professor of Economics, ESC Pau Business School, France, conducted 3-Day Workshop on “Global Responsibility / Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship" during January 21 to 23, 2020, for select students of PGDM 2019-21 Batch at MDP Hall, SDMIMD.

SDMIMD organized the International Symposium 2020 on January 3, 2020. Prof. Devi Singh, Former Director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow delivered the keynote address during this annual event and opined that India's growth in post-independence and the challenges and possible solutions for the issues confronting the economy.  The symposium was organized to coincide with the annual visit of students and faculty from Mays Business School, Texas A&M.

 
Earlier, the Director of the institute Dr. N.R. Parasuraman delivered the welcome address and presented the need for faculty-student exchange programs in any higher education institute. Dr Parasuraman gave an overview of the international reach out including international tie-up, international accreditation, international conferences and faculty-student exchanges at SDMIMD.
 
Dr Akshaya Srinivasan, Professor of Marketing, Mays Business School, Texas A&M University, US, accompanying the team from U.S, made preliminary remarks. Dr Neetu Ganapathy, Faculty – Systems and Business Communication and Coordinator gave an overview of the events planned during the symposium. The inaugural session was followed by the interaction and knowledge sharing sessions between the students of SDMIMD and Texas A&M University. The cultural program by both the institute students were scheduled post-lunch. 
 
Earlier in the week, the visiting students had a visit to companies of different sectors and interaction with the heads of the organizations.

Impact of SDMIMD studied by BSIS Team

Business School Impact System (BSIS) popularly known as the first comprehensive impact assessment tool for business schools visited SDMIMD on December 9 & 10, 2019. The team comprising of Dr. Michel Kalika, Director, BSIS and Professor of Management at IAE Lyon School of Management, France; and, Dr. H. Chaturvedi, Director and Professor, Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTech) evaluated the impact of activities, strategies and services on the community served by SDMIMD, in specific and on the Society at large. 

MoU signed by ATI and SDMIMD

SDMIMD and The Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Mysuru, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, December 9, 2019.
 
The MoU has been made to design, develop, and conduct training and capacity building programmes on development of Infrastructure, Public-Private Partnership (PPP)s, Project Financing and best international/domestic practices used in the implementation of projects or any other programs. Further, the MoU has opened avenues for joint research publication, case studies, and articles in the above areas of collaboration by the faculty members and trainers from the institutes.  
 
Smt. V Bhagyalakshmi, KTS Joint Director (Training) from Administrative Training Institute (ATI) and Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director from SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) signed the MoU. Mr Chethan V., Faculty in PPP Cell, ATI; L. Gandhi, Asst. Professor – OB / HRM, SDMIMD and Dr Sunil M.V., Librarian and Media Officer, SDMIMD were present.

Dr. N.  Muthukumar, President and Whole Time Director, Meritor Limited., delivered a Special Address as the Guest of Honor during the inauguration of the 8th International Conference on ‘Managing Human Resources at the Workplace’ organized by SDMIMD during 6th and 7th December 2019.  

 
Dr. Muthukumar said ‘today there is no dearth to funds or technology; if India wants to be in top 100 countries in the world by 2030, it all depends on how we make average person into extraordinary. You can’t manage everybody the same, they are not machines, people are not same, everybody needs different treatment that is where leadership is making much more important and leadership counts. According to research, in intellectual productivity, India is four times higher than America but unfortunately, we are failing to deliver’.
 
Earlier, while welcoming the gathering, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, emphasized on the role of HRM, as the strategic business partner, and stressed upon the need for an organization specific HRM policy framework, at place. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Conference Chair, presented the theme of the conference and highlighted the need for managing human relations and intelligence, in the context of emergence of Industry 4.0. 
 
Dr. Susanne Wilpers, Director International Programs, Faculty of Business and Transport Management, Heilbronn University, Germany, in her virtual keynote address, indicated that, using mobile technology, social network and predictive analytics have been the recent trends in HRM practices in Germany. 
 
Distinguished speakers from India and abroad, Dr. Ashly H. Pinnington, Dean of Research, the British University in Dubai; Mr. Tajas S J, CEO, GI TAGGED, Bengaluru; delivered invited talks. In a panel discussion, distinguished women leaders, Ms. Suchitra Royroth, Vice President – Operations, Cyient DLM; Ms. Mary Vinay Uttarkar, Training Consultant, Theorem Inc; Ms. Nisha , Manager – HR, Mypol; and, Dr. Juin Choudhury, Director, Acharya School of Management, Bangalore; deliberated on issues and challenges for women executives at work.  
 
The conference witnessed participation from 200+ delegates, across the country. During the conference, over 120 selected highly researched papers presented.
