MDP on Predictive Analytics for Business Decision Making

A two-day MDP on “Predictive Analytics for Business Decision Making” was held on June 3 and 4, 2019. The hands-on program was designed to share the importance of predictive modelling in business, and, to discuss the predictive methods such as linear regression, logistic regression etc and their applications in decision making. The sessions were a blend of data analysis and debates on the application of methods.

Dr Srilakshminarayana G, Faculty - Quantitative Methods, SDMIMD was the resource person and Dr Sunil MV coordinated the program. 

MDP on HR for Non-HR Professionals

SDMIMD organized a two-day MDP on “HR for Non-HR Professionals” on 30 and 31 May 2019. The basic objective of the program was to address day-to-day people Management issues, faced by professionals, working in various departments, at the role of line managers, departmental heads, responsible for the team and individual performance.  The program discussed and deliberated the issues and challenges of communication, motivation, leadership and team building, irrespective of sectors and size of the companies. Especially, issues, such as self-awareness, conflict management, performance appraisal feedback, were discussed. 

Through management games, role plays, simulation exercises, the participants learnt certain techniques to effectively address such issues. The participants of the program consisted of executives from the corporate and academic sector. Dr Mousumi Sengupta and Dr Nilanjan Sengupta, Professors – HRM and OB, were the faculty resource persons for the program. The program received highly positive feedback and the participants opined that they got benefitted substantially from the program. Dr Sunil M. V. was the coordinator for the program. 

MDP on Behavioural Finance

 
A one-Day MDP on Behavioural Finance was organised for financial consultants and portfolio managers, involved in giving guidance to the investors and constructing a portfolio to the requirements on May 21, 2019, at SDMIMD. 
 
The program covered various biases and traits which are developed in the minds of the investors and the possible culmination of those biases while investing. The participants were provided with various cases of investors background and analysis was done with their contributions and the decision was moderated by the faculty resource person Prof. Kannadas S, Faculty-Finance, SDMIMD. 

FDP on Data Analysis Using ‘R’ in Journal Publication

 
A 2-Day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 'Data Analysis Using R in Journal Publication' was organized on May 8 and 9, 2019, for the faculty and research community. The FDP focused on three major aspects - On selection of an appropriate statistical method for analysing the data; Second, on presenting the results in a journal publication; and lastly providing hands-on using R for analysing the data. 21 participants from across the state and neighbouring states participated in the program.

SDMIMD in collaboration with EFMD organized a One-day program IMPACT 2019 on the theme ‘Measuring the Impact of Business School Education in the 21st century for Excellence in Quality’ on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Bengaluru. The event brought together a number of leaders from various B-schools.

Mr Bhaskar Bhat, CEO, Tata Vistara – Singapore Airlines, discussed several important issues in conversation with Mr Nishith Jain on the topic ‘How can BS collaborate with corporate to enhance the Impact? focusing on management education and corporate connect.

The panel discussion on the topic - Are the Indian B Schools doing enough in terms of Impact?  included the panellists - Dr Ajoy K Dey, Professor and Chairman, Centre for Management Case Development, BIMTECH; Dr Michel Kalika, BSIS Co-Director, EFMD Global Network; Dr Sourav Mukherji, Professor and Chair for Teaching and Learning, IIMB; and Dr Preeta George, Professor and Chairperson – PGEMP - EMBA program, SPJIMR, Mumbai. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr (Lt Col) Prasad SN, Chairperson - Accreditation Process & Professor – Strategy, SDMIMD, Mysore. 

SDMIMD 24th Annual Convocation

On 30th March 2019, SDMIMD celebrated its 24th Annual Convocation with Mr. Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director at Volvo Group, India, as the distinguished Chief Guest. The glorious event began under the Chairmanship of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, and Chairman, SDMIMD.  He conferred the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) degree to students from the batch of 2017-19. Six students from the batch were honoured with gold medals for their academic excellence and overall performances. The distinguished Chief Guest, Mr. Kamal Bali addressed the gathering on the special occasion. He emphasised the significant role of women in the industry and the need for empowering them; the importance of corporate social responsibility and soaring production efficiency efforts of Indian industries. Earlier, DR. N R Parasuraman, Director of the Institute, presented the annual report for 2018-19.

AACSB Membership adds to SDMIMD's international presence

SDMIMD known as the only B-School in India offering PGDM Program with EFMD-EPAS and ACBSP international accreditations has received AACSB Business Education Alliance membership.
 
The membership has added colour to the celebration of the SDMIMD's silver jubilee commencing from June 2019. The institute is known for its flagship program - Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), Doctoral Program in Management (Ph.D.), Management Development Program (MDP), Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) and Certificate Program in Business Management (CPBM). The Institute has demonstrated the commitment to quality of management education over the years and meeting the requirements of the corporate world in the programs offered. 
 
Access to the AACSB’s knowledge-based resources with the accorded membership provides SDMIMD opportunity to enhance the quality, educational intelligence and professional development services. 

Industry Visit to Toyota Kirloskar and Bosch

The study tour to two industries at Bidadi Industrial Area in Bangalore was organized by the Institute for the benefit of One-Year PGPM students. The PGPM students accompanied by course instructor Dr R. Jagadeesh and Chairperson of the program Prof. Malathi Sriram visited Toyota Kirloskar and Bosch on March 15, 2019. The industry visit started with the visit to Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Limited, Bangalore. SDMites were greeted by the staff and explained the safety rules to be followed. Later the students went through different manufacturing plants and understood the production of auto components used in the Toyota cars which are assembled in another plant. The VP Mr Baligar explained the safety and quality systems followed by the company. During the post-lunch session, the students visited the Bosch (Bidadi Unit) Company and were given details about the quality practices followed by the company. Mr Naveen the head of the QMS division explained about the quality practices in Bosch. The industry visits were very helpful to the students in relating the classroom interactions in the 'Strategic Quality Control (SQC)' course with the actual practice. It was a very good learning experience for the group.
