MDP on Creativity and Problem Solving

 
A Management Development Program on Creativity and Problem Solving was successfully conducted for the benefit of participants from the N. Ranga Rao & Sons group from Mysore, held on June 7, 2018. The participants represented different functional areas like Marketing, Operations, Information Technology, Finance, and Supply Chain Management, under the group. Mr. Dinesh. C, Vice President – HR of the NRR Group was also present during the sessions and encouraged the participants to take up problems related to the participants’ functional area and develop solutions. The main faculty for the program was Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Professor, Operations Management and Quantitative Techniques, SDM IMD, who conducted four sessions covered different aspects of creativity and problem solving. The sessions discussed the concepts and theoretical aspects of creativity, developing the ability to think differently, finding solutions through creative techniques, and also involved hands-on exercises and games, along with solving puzzles. All these activities stimulated the participants who later in the day developed solutions for their department related problems, using a systematic procedure as given in the worksheet. The participants expressed their satisfaction and appreciation through their feedback at the end of the program.

Business Landscape Program 2018

As in previous years, the second year students were welcomed back after their Summer Internship Projects with a week-long orientation called “Business Landscape".
 
To support the students and to make them ready for a corporate career, and to sensitize on general awareness topics of contemporary interest and also to the broad vistas of strategy and leadership a Week-long Business Landscape Course was designed and offered to the PGDM 2017-19 Batch. Separate sessions were conducted on analysis of companies and statistical techniques. Prof. S N Prasad, Professor, Strategy, SDMIMD, coordinated the program
 
The week-long program gave a platform to the young managers to get ready for the specialization and placement activities scheduled during the academic year. A second phase of this orientation is planned later in the academic year.

Workshop on ‘How to succeed through Ph.D. Journey?’

 
“The award of Ph.D. is not an end of academic research journey. On the contrary,  it is the beginning of  the pursuit of findings to support decision-makers “thus said Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD during the inauguration of the workshop on ‘How to succeed through Ph.D. Journey?’ held on May 18, 2018.
 
Researchers should take the support of technological tools and rich resources available in the electronic database in bring out quality research. 
 
Expressing his concern on standards of research, the key resource person of the workshop Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Professor of Operations, SDMIMD, said that although the number of Ph.D. degrees awarded in the country has gone up in the recent times, the quality of research has notably gone down. Hence it is essential that the researchers focus on quality right from the beginning to ensure a valuable output from the Ph.D. program
 
The workshop focused on introducing the research etiquettes, identification of topics, research design and carrying out literature review. Research scholars from different universities in Karnataka and neighbouring states participated in the workshop. Dr. Sunil MV, Coordinator & Resource Person of the workshop, faculty members and staff present during the inaugural session. 

2-Day Pre-Course Workshop of BLCPM Program

Two-day Pre-course workshop of the course Blended Learning Certificate Program in Management (BLCPM) for the faculty of sister institutions of SDMIMD was conducted during May 18 & 19, 2018 at Mysuru in their campus. The BLCPM, a blended program having class sessions online as videos and face-to-face interactions was launched by SDMIMD, Mysuru in November 2017 on the TCS IoN platform. Participants of the BLCPM will now have to go through the online videos lessons and complete their assignments and test online in 12 weeks’ time. Post this they will be awarded a BLCPM certification jointly by SDMIMD and TCS IoN.

Ranked in Top 50 B-School by NHRDN B-School Survey

SDMIMD is ranked at the 36th position among the 52 top B Schools in India which includes the IIMs and others.  The ranking is based on the primary data collected in campus by the NHRDN team, supported by senior executives from the corporate and academicians.  SDMIMD has consolidated its position in parameters such as faculty quality, corporate linkages, placements and International accreditation. 

NIRF 2018 Survey Ranks SDMIMD among Top 100

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has ranked SDMIMD among the Top 100 Management Institutes in the Country in its India Rankings 2018 of higher education institutions. The overall ranking list by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) included 4000 institutes across the country in different disciplines. The survey aimed at promoting Research and Development in Higher Education, and ‘Research and Professional Practices’ has been given the highest weightage of 40%, in the current ranking. 

SDMIMD listed in Asia Inc Top 100

Asia Inc's B-School ranking known for its multidimensional analysis of institute performance has listed SDMIMD in 42 Place in the recently published Top 100 Indian B-school listing for the year 2018 -19.

23rd Annual SDMIMD Convocation

“Traditional banks should advocate Financial Technology (FinTech) to keep pace with latest advancements,” opined Mr. N.S. Vishwanathan, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), during the 23rd Annual Convocation address of SDMIMD delivered on March 24, 2018.
 
Mr. Vishwanathan observed that mobile banking and app-based payments have become very popular which indicate that 41% users make payments through FinTech. He added that digitisation decreases transaction cost in the banking sector. He indicated that India was second only to China regarding active FinTech users.
 
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, and Chairman, SDMIMD, presided over the event and conferred the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) degree to 157 students belonging to the 2016-18 batch. 
 
Ms. S.S. Nidhi topped the list of gold medallists bagging three - Suman Narayan Memorial Alumni Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Human Resources Management; Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Marketing; and, shared the Chairman’s Distinguished Student Gold Medal. Followed by Mr. B.C. Sachidev won the Ankur Gupta Memorial Alumni Gold Medal For Excellent Performance in Finance; Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Operations was awarded to Mr. Vimal Ullas Mangeshkar; Ms. Sheri Miriam John won the Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Systems; Mr. Ziaulla Sheriff won the Ankur Gupta Memorial Gold Medal for Best Overall Performance; and Chairman’s Distinguished Student Gold Medal for Best Academic Performance Jointly Shared by two students – Ms. Neha and Ms. Nidhi. 
 
Earlier, the Director of the Institute Dr. N.R. Parasuraman welcomed the gathering and presented the Annual Report 2017-18. The presentation gave glimpses about the happenings in the Institute during the academic year. The report also shared the information about 2 international accreditations, academic achievements and students achievements, international tie-up and activities in the institute.
 
The Deputy Director of SDMIMD Dr. H. Gayathri presented the vote of thanks. Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean – Academics, led the Convocation procession and the process.
