Debate Competition 2016

Prof. Y. Bhagavan Memorial National Level Debate was organized by SDMIMD in collaboration with Rotary Mid-town Mysore during Feb 27 & 28, 2016 at SDMIMD.
 
Inaugurating the competition Mr. Niranjan Nikam, Senior Journalist & Consultant – University of Mysore Centenary Celebrations, said ‘The debates, the dissents, the arguments, the counter arguments, are all part of growing up. Not claiming that ‘my ideology is the best’, understanding, absorbing, assimilating all with a fresh and open mind is essential. The moment the mind becomes rigid, then the loser is none other than you yourself. You close your mind to all thoughts, views, opinions, ideas and the world passes you by. Don’t allow this to happen’. 
 
The Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony Dr. Sujatha Muthanna, L&D Infosys, Mysuru, spoke about the relevance of debating and establishing one’s point of view in the corporate world. The youth of today are driven and this streak must extend to the corporate environment. This will pave the way for them to carve a niche for themselves.
 
64 bright young minds from 8 States representing different disciplines of education - Law, Engineering, Management, Medical, Arts & Science - debated on the topics "All nations should have a right to carry Nuclear Weapons" & "In India, betting in Cricket should be legalized" during First Round held on February 27, 2016. “The Indian News Media does not deserve the epithet – Presstitutes” was the topic for Top 12 from First Round.
 
Prof. Govinda Sharma in his valedictory address highlighted the importance of debate and how it will give different dimensions to our thought process. Prof. Sharma appreciated the topics chosen for debate and lauded the students members involved in organizing the debate for making it a National Level event. 
 
Mr. Jeydev C.S. of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, won the First Place; Ms. Anshul Wadwa of Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship (XIME) stood 2nd and Ms. Shree Shishya Mishra of Alliance School of Law, Bengaluru, secured the 3rd Place. The other 9 finalist were given consolation prizes.

Mr. Arson won SDMIMD Essay Competition

SDMIMD had organized Essay Competition on the topic “Your Unforgettable Teacher”. This online competition attracted 72 essays across the Nation. The event considered Social Media as a tool for evaluating the submissions. The content in the submission, likes & comments in social media, and remarks from the evaluators, were considered to evaluate the essays received. Mr. Arson Jokim D’Souza, St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru, has been considered as winner of this competition. Ms. Purbita Bal, Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Nagpur, has won the special appreciation for ‘Best Content’.

Convergence 3i - 2016

‘”Discipline, Dedication, Determination are 3Ds which help to see success in life” according to  Dr. N. Muthukumar, Chairman of CII, Mysore Chapter & Whole Time Director, Automotive Axel Ltd.  Speaking to a gathering of students from various Institutes and colleges during the inaugural address delivered at the 4th edition of Convergence 3i – the Industry-Institute-Interface – event organized jointly by SDMIMD and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) – Mysore Chapter at SDMIMD, Dr. Muthukumar was candid in his advice to the younger generation on the attitude they should carry. 
 
Sharing his 9 years’ experience in Merchant Navy and as a Business Strategist for 7 years in corporate life, Mr. Vinod Muthukrishnan, CEO, Cloud Cherry, the Chief Guest of the event outlined 4Cs that would take youngsters to great heights. These are ‘Curiosity, which questions to explore and to make things better; Character, which represents the person; Courage, which gives a person conviction; Commitment, which brings dedication, work ethics and culture’.  
 
Earlier welcoming the gathering, the Director of SDMIMD, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman said such platforms helps educational institutes to revisit the curriculum, and pedagogy and to understand the aspiration & expectations of industry and budding graduates. 
 
Prof. S.N. Prasad, Faculty Coordinator of the program welcomed the gathering. Students from various engineering and degree colleges participated in Convergence 3i.  
 
The inaugural session was followed by a panel discussions on ‘Job Creation for Graduates in India’ – The Challenge’ and ‘Are you ready to work for me?- Employer’s Expectation from You’.  Dr. Sudhir Sosale, Director CIAT, NIE, Mysore, Former India Head, Intel Corp and Mr. Raghavendra Kadkol, Manager HR, Infosys, joined the faculty members of SDMIMD Prof Rajendra Todalbagi & Prof. R. Sugant; with the SDMIMD students Praneet Kumar & Pooja Hegde, as panel members. The panel was moderated by Prof. S.N. Prasad and Prof. Malathi Sriram respectively.

Kalanubhav 2016

It was splendid cultural evening on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at SDMIMD, giving opt synchronization to the title of the program 'Kalanubhav'. The Bharatanatyam performance by Vidushi Yamini Muthanna presenting her choreography 'Margam' and 'Navagraha - the Lords of the Constellation' set to the original slokas of Sri Shankaracharya, mesmerized the crowd. This was followed by a presentation of traditional art forms - Hatha Yoga and Kallaripayatu.
 
Kalanubhav is a student committee with the objective of being a platform for propagating and showcasing all forms of Indian art by SDMites. The annual event of Kalanubhav brings eminent artists to introduce the different art forms and to keep up the rich tradition & class of our Indian culture.

SDMIMD's PGDM Equivalent to MBA Degree

The 2-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) of SDMIMD is recognized as ‘Equivalent to MBA Degree’ of an Indian University by The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) under University Grants Commission (UGC).

Startup Charcha

SDMIMD organized an entrepreneurship event called STARTUP CHARCHA at SDMIMD on February 3, 2016. This event was not only a culmination of various entrepreneurship activities undertaken by Swayam - E cell of SDMIMD students, but also an event that was in consonance with the overall favourable policy environment of the government in the context of startups.
