Student Exchange Program 2020

As part of the students exchange program 29 select students will be visiting eight different international foreign universities for a whole term of study. During the program SDMIMD students will be studying with many international students and get taught by several faculty from different nationalities. The experience of having different pedagogy is invaluable for their growth. Besides the facility to do cases and projects with students of other nationalities and background affords cross-cultural understanding. Further, the evaluation technique used in these schools enables students to be on their toes and prove their mettle.

The foreign universities to which the selected students will go are as follows:

  • University of Texas A&M, USA – 4 Students
  • University of Bordeaux, France – 4 Students
  • University of Montpellier, France - 4 Students
  • La Rochelle Business School, France - 4 Students
  • University of Pau, France - 4 Students
  • EAE Business School, Spain - 4 Students
  • University of Heilbronn, Germany – 3 Students
  • National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU), Taiwan – 2 Students

Pratigam 2020 – the Annual Alumni Meet
Prerana – the alumni association of SDMIMD organized ‘Pratigam 2020’ the annual alumni meet at SDMIMD on Saturday, January 18, 2020. The 'Centre of Inspiration' of Pratigam 2020 is the 25 Years of Inspirational Journey of SDMIMD. Pratigam 2020 gave a perfect platform to SDMites to share, connect and collaborate with classmates, seniors, juniors, faculty, and extended SDMIMD family.

Commencing with box cricket, carrom, table tennis and volleyball matches, proceeded to lunch; followed by panel discussion on ‘Digital transformation and its profound impact on the business’ and Start-up Talks: Entrepreneurship Session.

The evening program was titled ‘Celebrating 25 Years of Inspiration’ presenting Prerana Dossier and recalling the memories. With the title ‘Honouring our Inspirations’ Prerana honoured faculty and staff members who are with SDMIMD’s Management Educational Service for more than 20 Years. The event concluded with entertainment program by Kalaanubhav, followed by dinner.
International Symposium 2020
SDMIMD organized the International Symposium 2020 on January 3, 2020. Prof. Devi Singh, Former Director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow delivered the keynote address during this annual event. The symposium was organized to coincide with the annual visit of students and faculty from Mays Business School, Texas A&M.
Earlier, the Director of the institute Dr. N.R. Parasuraman delivered the welcome address and presented the need for faculty-student exchange programs in any higher education institute. Dr Parasuraman gave an overview of the international reach out including international tie-up, international accreditation, international conferences and faculty-student exchanges at SDMIMD.

Dr Akshaya Srinivasan, Professor of Marketing, Mays Business School, Texas A&M University, US, accompanying the team from U.S, made preliminary remarks. Dr Neetu Ganapathy, Faculty – Systems and Business Communication and Coordinator gave an overview of the events planned during the symposium. The inaugural session was followed by the interaction and knowledge sharing sessions between the students of SDMIMD and Texas A&M University. The cultural program by both the institute students were scheduled post-lunch.

Earlier in the week, the visiting students had a visit to companies of different sectors and interaction with the heads of the organizations.
Workshop by Exchange Faculty from France
Prof. Charlotte Fontan Sers, Professor of Economics, ESC Pau Business School, France, conducted 3-Day Workshop on “Global Responsibility / Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship" during January 21 to 23, 2020, for select students of PGDM 2019-21 batch at MDP Hall, SDMIMD.
Technical talk on Cyber Security
Silicon – SDMites System and Analytics Club organized a technical talk on "Cyber Security” by Mr. K.S. Sudheer, Member, CII IT & ITES Panel; and, Associate Solicitor, METI M2M India Pvt Ltd., on January 25, 2020, at SDMIMD.
Faculty Outreach Activities in January 2020
  • Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta reviewed the paper titled “Creating Shared Value Through Collaborative Decision-Making : How working together shines light on transformational possibilities for the Journal Organization Studies” submitted for publication in the Journal Common Ground Publishers, USA.
  • Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta reviewed the paper titled “Discrimination and social justice: on questions of diversity, plurality, representativeness, measurability and doublespeak” submitted for publication in the Journal Common Ground Publishers, USA.
  • Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta reviewed the paper titled “Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Research Network: The Learner” submitted for publication in the Journal Common Ground Publishers, USA.
  • Dr. Mousumi Sengupta have been invited by ATI Mysore to conduct training for Officers of the Department of Public Instruction, on the topic 'Team Management'.
  • Dr. Prasad S.N. participated in the E3 events Admissions fair at Lucknow on January 25, 2020.
  • Dr. Prasad S.N. participated in the E3 events Admissions Fair at Kanpur on January 23, 2020.
  • Dr. Prasad S.N. participated in the personal institutional discussion with Mr Gabriel Maschiao da Costa of QS International, UK on January 21, 2020 at the QS India offices, Bangalore.
  • Dr. Prasad S.N. participated in the Workshop on Quacarelli Symonds (QS) of UK, institutional world rankings at IISc Bangalore on January 20, 2020.
  • Case authored by Dr. Neetu Ganapathy in 2015 titled "Inside Amazon: a great environment fostering innovation or a brutal workplace" has been added as reading material for a course at the Singapore Management University's Lee Kong Chian School of Business.
  • Dr. Jayakrishnan S inducted into the Review board of Muma Case review published by the University of South Florida's Muma College of Business(USA) as an Associate reviewer.

71st Republic Day Celebration
SDMites celebrated the 71st Republic Day with duty, devotion and dedication. Prof. L. Gandhi, Faculty – HR/OB, SDMIMD, hoisted the tri-colour and addressed the gathering. Prof. Gandhi highlighted the importance of Constitution of India which came into effect on 26th January 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. Condolence to Former Director Dr. A.K. Rao
SDMIMD family expresses deep condolence on the sudden demise of SDMIMD’s Former Director and Professor – Quantitative Techniques and Operations Research Dr. A.K. Rao. He had served SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysore, as the Dean of the Academics during 1997 to 1999; and then as Director of the Institute between 1999 and 2003.
