The Toastmasters Club at SDMIMD has been recognised as one of the Top 10 Clubs among 150 clubs in District 121, which consists of clubs in Karnataka and Kerala. The recognition is on account of the highest percentage of education awards filed, per base membership. SDMIMD congratulates SDMites Team of Toastmasters for their commitment and conviction in completing the education projects under the Toastmasters International Pathways Program.

“Club DataTech”, the students’ Data Analytics club of SDMIMD was established with an objective to act as a backbone for all the data analytics related activities at the Institute. Club DataTech provides students an opportunity to assimilate, learn, and distribute wisdom related to the contemporary developments in data analytics.

SDMIMD has tied up with the University of Dundee, UK in co-hosting an International conference, jointly co-hosted by the Workshop on Sustainable Socio-Economic Development (WISSED), University of Dundee, and partner institutions, during November 24-25, 2020. The conference will be held in a virtual mode.

Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor - OB/HRM, SDMIMD, reviewed the article titled "Mindful Leadership as a Predictor of Organizational Resilience” submitted for publication in the The interdisciplinary Journal of Social Sciences, Common Ground Publishers, USA.

Dr M R Suresh, Professor - Marketing, SDMIMD, was invited to deliver a lecture on Marketing and Consumer behaviour on Oct 9, 2020 for Dept of Management Studies, SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad. The session was highly appreciated and Letter of Appreciation received from SDMCET

Dr. Srilakshminarayana.G, Associate Professor - Quantitative Methods, SDMIMD, presented a paper titled "On the Tail Behaviour of the Nifty-50 Stocks during Crises" during the two day "1st Rajagiri Management Conference" organized by Rajagiri Business School held on October 15 & 16, 2020.

Dr. Srilakshminarayana.G attended a two-day online FDP on "Research Methods and Data Analysis" on October 13 & 14, 2020, organized by Rajagiri Business School.

Dr. M. Sriram, Associate Professor - Finance, SDMIMD, delivered a talk on 'Financial Markets' as part of a skill development course to the students of Class 10, Kautilya Vidyalaya on October 17, 2020.

Prof. Gandhi L., Chairperson - Admissions & Assistant Professor - OB/HRM, SDMIMD, conducted a webinar on 'National Education Policy 2020'. In the webinar, he highlighted the Salient features of NEP 2020 with regard to School and Higher Education. This webinar was organized by CSI College of Engineering, Ketti, The Nilgiris on October 10, 2020.

A 2-Day MDP on “Statistical Methods for Machine Learning” was organized on October 8 & 9, 2020. Dr Srilakshminarayana G., Faculty-Quantitative Methods, SDMIMD, was the resource person for the online MDP. The program has provided a Hand’s-on experience to the participants on the application of the statistical methods used in Machine Learning. Case studies and relevant data sets were used to discuss the key Issues associated with each of the methods. On the first day, application of linear regression and logistic regression were discussed and on the second day, application of classification trees and regression trees were discussed. The program was concluded with discussion on discriminant analysis and cluster analysis.

A Management Development Program (MDP) on Mastering the Art of Selling was organized on October 15 & 16, 2020, for the corporate executives. Dr R Sugant, Chairman – Career Services and Professor – Marketing, SDMIMD, was the resource person for the Online MDP.

Ms. Preethy Unnikrishnan, Head, Human Resources – Strategic Growth Business, Tata Consultancy Services, delivered talk on “Adapting to new normal” to PGDM & PGCM Students of 2020 Batch on October 10, 2020. She elaborated the challenges TCS faced in onboarding 40,000 employees virtually and how TCS successfully overcame the challenge by using technology and human-centric approach. The speaker discussed about the challenges in transitioning 3 lakh+ workforce to work from home and ensuring the employees stay safe and motivated. The way TCS went about adapting “Secure Borderless Workspace” by ensuring employee safety and data security is a lesson on how to convert the crisis into opportunity.

Mrs Shilpa Nag, IAS, Director, Abdul Nazeer Sab State Institute for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (ANSSIRD & PR), Mysore delivered a talk on “Leadership in the New Normal” on October 21, 2020 to the PGDM 2020-2022 Batch. The session had insights on the challenges and opportunities created from the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized on the need for benevolent leadership in all walks of life to manage the health and business sectors in the new normal. The interactive session with students threw light on the adaptation and transformation in business, changing nature of employee engagement and regulation, and changing dynamics in consumerism.

Dr Sandhya G Krishnan, Global Head of Millennial Council for Innovation Transformation and Global Diversity, Cognizant Technology Solutions, was the invited speaker for the webinar scheduled on October 23, 2020, on the topic ‘Aligning functional and behaviour skills for career development’ for the PGDM and PGCM 2020 Batch.

Dr. Ullas Rao, Associate Professor of Finance, UG Programme Director for Business & Finance, Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, was the invited speaker for the webinar scheduled on October 24, 2020, on the topic ‘Carving out an alternative financial system: Gleanings from Financial Economics’ for the Finance Specialization students of PGDM 2019-2021 Batch. As a prelude to the invited talk, Dr. N. Kamakodi, Managing Director and CEO, City Union Bank Ltd., addressed the students on the theme ‘Current Trends in Banking Sector’. Dr. Ullas Rao focused on introducing the alternative financial systems prevalent across the globe. Further, the speaker discussed on how India can adopt to a new financial system which will address the ever challenge NPA and problems in the banking sector. Dr. Rao is a former faculty of SDMIMD.

Mr Selvan Dorairaj, Vice President – Learning & Development, Cape Gemini, was invited to be the speaker for the webinar on 'Digital HR & Covid 19' organized on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Addressing the PGDM and PGCM 2020 Batch, Mr Selvan discussed on the various initiative taken by the several companies to go digital and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in everyday corporate process. Further, the speaker touched upon the role of digital transformation specifically in the area of HR.

Mr. Vipin Prasad, Managing Director, Joining Dots Inc., delivered webinar on the topic the ‘Future of E-Commerce in India & Growing your Business Online’ on October 27, 2020, for the PGDM and PGCM 2020 Batch. The talk was based on several personal experiences of the speaker. Mr. Vipin Prasad is alumnus of SDMIMD.

In today's digital world, Cybersecurity is important because it encompasses everything that pertains to protecting our sensitive data from theft and damage attempted by criminals and adversaries. To sensitize on these aspects and to introduce the placement avenues in this nish area a webinar on the topic “Overview of Cybersecurity and its growth prospects” was organized for PGDM and PGCM students of 2020 Batch on October 22, 2020. The interactive and informative talk was delivered by Mr. Rajesh Krishna, Founder, Securaa.io and Ms. Rashmi Vikram, Head - International Alliances, RSA Security & the alumnus of SDMIMD.

Mr. Badrinath Waiker, Solution Manager, SAP Ariba, delivered webinar on the topic “Spend management in the context of global supply chain and procurement” to the PGDM 2019-2021 Batch on October 17, 2020. The session revolved around understanding spend management in the context of COVID-19, understanding the importance of Supply chain management, and how technology has transformed the supply chain management process. The session was made more illustrative by Mr. Waiker's real-life corporate examples. Mr. Waiker is an alumnus of SDMIMD.
