The 4th International Conference on “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends” was organised by SDMIMD on November 23-24, 2018. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. R Balasubramaniam, Founder & Chairman, GRAAM, Mysore. In his keynote address, he drew up the threats and challenges to sustainable development and opined that, ecological crisis, societal crisis and crisis of self are the barriers to inclusive sustainability. He strongly argued that sustainable development cannot be achieved only with economic development. According to him, development should not be defined only from the growth of GDP, rather it has to be looked from the perspective of human capital. SDMIMD Director, Dr.N.R.Parasuraman elucidated the brewing economic turmoil and inconsistent growth across the world. He also expressed his concerns on under development of financial instruments in the Indian market like derivatives, hedge equities which has led to under development of the economy. Dr.B. Mr. Saurabh Singh, Mr. Tarun B. Talreja and Mr. Naveen Navada of PGDM 2017-19 will be representing SDMIMD at the Grand Finale of StockMIND, the largest nationwide competition on stock markets to be organized by ICICIDirect Center for Financial Learning (CFL) during March 2019.

The 3 SDMites have made their entry to the grand finale by clearing the initial rounds challenging them on stock market investing, analytical thinking, decision making and time management.

SDMIMD organised a one-day Pre-Conference Workshop on ‘Micro Finance for Macro Development’ on November 22, 2018. This was a part of 4th International Conference on Economic Growth and Sustainable Development.

Mr. Udaya Kumar, MD & CEO, Grameen Financial Services inaugurated the workshop and delivered the keynote talk. He said that “India still has a large population that belongs to the bottom of the pyramid and inclusion does not mean having a bank account, but it has more to do with a wide range of financial services and security such as insurance, health care, education, it is beyond that. Microfinance industry is indispensable for a country like India because it caters to a large set of people who are at the bottom of the pyramid. This industry is aiding the economic growth of the Nation by catering to a humongous population that is unserved or unserved”. Read More>

Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore, on November 20, 2018. The Rajyotsava started with a festive mode decorating the campus with buntings, posters of prominent personalities of Karnataka, and flowers. The event started with the hoisting of the Kannada flag of 40 feet. Students sang the Kannada Naadageete ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya tanujaate’ followed by National Anthem. A special lunch with unique dishes of Karnataka was served by the students to faculty and staff members of the institute.

In the evening, sports and cultural programs were organized. Traditional local games of Karnataka were introduced to other state students. Students from other states sang Kannada songs and danced to the tunes. Kabaddi match played between the staff and students’ teams and the ‘Folk dance’ performance were the highlights of the celebrations.

The 2018-19 edition of SDMIMD’s Management Development Programs (MDPs) annual calendar is focused on feedback, changing demands on business and needs of professional executives. Over the years SDMIMD’s MDP is known to support management systems in practice and to provide training to the executives of different sectors at different levels in an organization.

The MDP 2018-19 will introduce the participants with the latest tools, techniques and skills in different genre of management such as Strategic Management, Leadership, HR, OB, Marketing, Finance, Operations Management and General Management.

The 2019 edition of the international symposium is scheduled on January 7, 2019, at SDMIMD. The day-long event will include a keynote address, a special address, student interaction sessions and some fun time for the visiting students with SDMIMD students. Students from Texas A&M, who will be at SDMIMD as a part of the student exchange program will be participating in the event.

Dr. Julian Gasper, Director, Center for International Business Studies & Clinical Professor of Finance, Mays Business School, Texas A&M University; US will be present.

The second edition of Dr. N.R. Parasuraman's book 'Financial Management - A step-by-step Approach' was released by Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Chairman, SDMIMD and Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala during his visit to SDMIMD. Based on the excellent response to the 1st edition, the second edition has been revised with additional problems, and a support App. The book is published by Cengage Learning.
