Lecture on Social Inclusion by Dr. R. Indira

Dr. R. Indira, Professor of Sociology (Rtd.) & Former Director of International Center delivered an invited lecture on the topic “Inclusive Sustainable Development: A Multi-stakeholder Issue with Special Reference to India”. This talk was a part of pre-conference workshop on Inclusive Sustainable Growth: Challenges of Change on November 9, 2017. Dr.Indira explored all dimensions of the idea of development in India with special emphasis on inclusion of women and marginalised in the society in the development process for sustainability.

Invited Talk on Microfinance by Dr.Rangan Varadan, CEO MicroGram

Dr. Rangan Varadan, Founder and CEO, MicroGram delivered a lecture on November 9, 2017 to the participants of workshop on Inclusive Sustainable Growth: Challenges of Change. Dr.Rangan spoke on the role of micro finance and micro finance institutions in inclusive sustainable growth in Indian context. He shed light on the existence, functioning, challenges and the future of microfinance in India.

Workshop Keynote on Sustainability by Dr. Parameshwar P Iyer

Dr. Parameshwar P Iyer, Principal Research Scientist at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore delivered keynote address to the participants of the pre-conference workshop on Inclusive Sustainable Growth: Challenges of Change on November 9, 2017. While speaking on the topic “Sustainability in Management of Technology”, Prof.Iyer described how fostering and recognizing ongoing innovation and research as intellectual property is important not only for developing businesses and economies, but can also play a major role in reducing the plight of the rural population.

Invited talk by Mr BC Rao

The 2 day international Conference on Marketing held on 26th and 27th of October with a theme, which focused on the contemporary and emerging trends of marketing in Digital World started off with a key note address by Mr BC Rao, MD of Kennametal India Ltd. Mr BC Rao, in his key note address highlighted about the digital initiatives that his organization has taken and how positive its impact has been. Mr Rao also shared his personal experiences during the course of his lecture. He gave tips to students to survive and succeed in the corporate set up.

Guest talk by Mr. Sukumar Rangachari

Mr Sukumar Rangachari, Managing Director, Ace Components and Electronics Pvt ltd, delivered invited talk organized by the E-Cell Club - Swayam at SDMIMD. During the course of his lecture, Mr Sukumar Rangachari spoke about the importance of entrepreneurship. He questioned the audience “Why they wanted to become entrepreneurs?”, and through the course of his lecture, he tried to give the audience a sense of direction and clarity on how to become an entrepreneur. Mr Sukumar Rangachari also emphasised about the importance of a business plan/Model. This was followed by a Q&A session.

Visit of Mr. Jeffrey Alderman, President, ACBSP

Mr Jeffrey Alderman, President and CEO, Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP), USA, visited the Institute on Thursday, August 31, 2017. SDMites had an opportunity to hear from the ACBSP President and interact.

Mr. Alderman during his talk elucidated on what accreditation signifies and particularly what the ACBSP accreditation means. He said, ‘There are only 7% business schools in the world to have this accreditation and you, the students of SDMIMD, are fortunate that you are getting to study in such a prestigious institute.’

Mr Alderman, while talking about the standards of ACBSP that are used for the accreditation process, briefly talked about the evolution of these and continuous revision. To give students a glimpse of the corporate world he shared some of his personal work life experiences which emphasized on time management to build a good career.

The talk concluded with an active question and answer session. While answering the difference between Indian B-School Students to the rest, Mr. Alderman said, ‘Indian students have an IT advantage. Be it in my own organisation or somewhere else – one thing I noticed common in Indian students is that they are good at information technology and that puts them ahead of the rest of the competitors.’

Later, Mr. Alderman addressed the Faculty and Staff Members, and was interviewed by students for their online magazine “Dimensions”.

Invited Talk by Dr. S.S.S. Kumar

The finance specialization students of PGDM 2016-18 Batch participated in the invited talk by Dr. S.S.S Kumar, Professor-Finance, Indian Institute of Management, Kohzhikode (IIM-K), on Friday, August 18, 2017. Dr. Kumar focused the talk on ‘Derivatives and the Commodity Market’. The tips and techniques provided by the speaker on how one can analyse and trade in the derivatives and commodity market was informative. The speaker emphasised the students to take part in situation- based learning exercises. This was followed by Q&A session.

Technical Session Speaker – Mr Sanjay Somasundara

Mr. Sanjay Somasundara, Deputy Vice President, Kotak Mahindra Life, Tamilnadu, the invited technical session speaker of International Finance Conference 2017 on Day-2, August 19, 2017; took the audience a complete tour through the Insurance market. The penetration mainly focused on the life insurance sector in India and the customer segmentation. Presenting the Ideal Financial planning, Mr. Sanjay informed the factors that are considered for savings, SIP and market timing.

Invited talk on 'Financial Statements'

Dr. Durga Prasad Samantaray, Professor-Finance, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, was the invited speaker to deliver talk on 'Financial Statements' to PGDM 2016-18 on Friday, August 18, 2017. Dr. Prasad explained the Financial statements through a case study of a Saudi Arabian Company. Further, the speaker touched upon certain aspects of Valuation during his lecture.
