Workshop on Giving Back to Society by Prof. Saju Jose

‘Due to the economic turmoil, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability issues are acquiring more value and importance, particularly in the business sector. Business financial success is inseparable from the environments and societies within which they work. Failing to account for longer-term social and environmental impacts makes business practices unsustainable. CSR and sustainability provide a competitive advantage’ thus said Dr. Saju Valliara Jose, Associate Professor – Marketing, College of Business, Abu Dhabi University, UAE, the faculty resource for the 2-Day Workshop on ‘Moving Forward by Giving Back – Corporate Social Responsibility’ held on August 3 & 4, 2022, at SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in business organizations is addressing various social problems such as community development, awareness building, environment protection, etc. The concern from the various stakeholders of a business entity to perform business in a more socially responsible manner has added towards such initiatives.  This has given them the edge for attracting investment, social inclusiveness, government benefits, etc. In view of this young managers should be aware and well-read about this social inclusiveness activity in the corporate world. The workshop addressed this requirement from an international perspective by Dr. Saju Jose, who visited SDMIMD as part of the Faculty Exchange Program.

The real-life cases from both India and abroad; and the activities such as guessing the mission and the vision statements and creating CSR policies for a few industries like the construction industry, universities, airline industry, etc., made the workshop participants to get the holistic learning about CSR.

Workshop on Conducting Literature Review and Data Analysis in Medical Research

Medical research in one field of research which looks for new findings that helps the society at large. The vaccine for COVID is a best example, which has saved the world from the deadly virus. Researchers strive hard day and night to give the best results, which are more practical in nature.

Among other aspects, data plays an important role in bringing out these results. Unlike in other research, large data sets may not be available, and researchers may have to reply on data sets of smaller sizes. Now, it is important for them to analyse the data appropriately using the right statistical method. Sometimes, the data needs to be collected from the existing literature and summarize the same to give out the results. This demands the conduct of literature review in a right way and sometimes demands the use of technology, and one must get trained in using the same. To achieve the needed expertise, the researcher must get trained in usage of a tool and one such tool which is handy for everyone is Excel and getting trained in using the same will make them independent in analysing the data.

Taking these needs, we at SDMIMD have planned a two-day workshop in conduct of literature review using technology, usage of excel for data analysis and selection of the right statistical method for testing the hypotheses. It gives the participants a hands-on experience on conducting the literature review, collecting and analysing the data, and construction and testing of the hypothesis.
