Award of PhD Degree to Mr. Ajay B. Jamnani

Mr.  Ajay B. Jamnani, Research Scholar from Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Research Center for Management Studies (SDM RCMS) the research unit of SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore, was awarded PhD degree by the University of Mysore, Mysuru, for his thesis ‘A Comparative Analysis of Promotional Strategies of Major E-Commerce Players in India’. The research work was guided by Dr H. Gayathri, Former Deputy Director & Professor - Marketing, SDMIMD, Mysore.

MDP on Creativity, Innovation and Design

SDMIMD organized a MDP on Creativity, Innovation, and Design on the virtual platform on July 14, 2021. The program highlighted the need to develop and nurture creativity, innovation, and design skills in all professional fields. Further, the emphasis of this program was on the persistent attitude required for achieving individual, team, and organizational transformation and excellence. Dr S. Saibaba, Assistant Professor – Marketing, and Dr. (Lt Col) Prasad S.N, Deputy Director & Professor – Strategy and General Management, delivered the sessions.

Nodal Centre of BCIC at SDMIMD

Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) has set up nodal centres in Mysore and Dharwad in collaboration with SDMIMD.  The Nodal Centre in Mysore will be called the BCIC SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management Studies, and will focus on holding corporate programs, training sessions, workshops and leadership conclaves with the support of the corporate executives of the member Institutions of BCIC.  A similar centre is being set up in Dharwad called the BCIC Shri Dharmasthala University Centre for Excellence.

‘Efforts of industrial development and skill development should reach the tier II and III cities more effectively. I congratulate and appreciate the effort of the Bangalore Chambers of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) and Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara group for the initiative to establish the Nodal Centre at Mysore & Dharwad. I am sure such initiatives by BCIC to think beyond Bengaluru will help industries and skill enhancement among youths in other parts of the state’ said Hon’ble Minister for Large & Medium Scale Industries, Government of Karnataka Shri Jagadish Shettar, during the inauguration of Nodal Centre; and Centre for Management Excellence by BCIC SDMIMD on July 15, 2021, in Bangalore. 
 
Speaking on occasion, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala and Chairman of SDM Education Trust Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade Acknowledged the great work being carried out by BCIC and expressed hope that the collaboration with SDMIMD will bring forth new areas of exposure to students. He also expressed his joy at the collaboration being extended to Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University in Dharwad, where there are clear plans for focused growth in the years to come
 
Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, explained the context behind setting up the Nodal Centres. Given the international accreditation and tie-ups that SDMIMD has, this arrangement will bolster corporatisation and consultancy areas for the Institute apart from paving the way for focused research enabling smooth decision making.  He drew attention to the fact that BCIC has proven expertise in several areas of interest in management and these will be focused on by the Nodal Centres.

Webinar on 'Invest in Yourself'

A webinar on the launch of PGCM with specialization in Investment Banking was held on 28th June 2021. SDMIMD hosted the webinar along with the knowledge partner 'NSE Academy Ltd, Mumbai'. The Director of SDMIMD, Dr N.R.Parasuraman spoke on the current state of the financial markets and the role of investment bankers in capital market operations. Sri. Abhilash Misra, CEO, NSE Academy, highlighted the career opportunities for investment banking professionals and the required skillsets for taking up investment banking as a specialization. Dr M.V.Sunil, Head-Academic Administration, provided the details about the program structure. Prof. Gandhi, Chairperson-Admissions, spoke on the eligibility and admission process for enrolling for the PGCM program. The webinar was coordinated and moderated by Dr M.Sriram-Associate Professor-Finance, SDMIMD.

Webinar on Dynamic Leadership

A webinar on the theme of Dynamic Leadership was organized for the PGDM 2021-2023 Batch on June 28, 2021.  The webinar was held in an interactive mode where students were encouraged to share their views on various important aspects of leadership. The Resource person for the interactive session Dr Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor - OB/HR, SDMIMD, focused the session on - issues related to characteristics of dynamic leaders; various leadership styles in the context of business and social leadership; Indian leadership styles followed in Indian organizations; and, leadership failures and the crisis of leadership.

Prerana - SDMIMD Talk by Mr Achuta Bachalli

Prerana, the Alumni Association and SDMIMD invited Mr Achutha Bachalli, Founder, Unilog Content Solutions, to deliver an invited talk on June 26, 2021. The talk 'My Story - Journey of an Entrepreuner' was organized as part of the Entrepreneur Series for the benefit of alumni and students on campus. 

Webinar on 'Marketing and Society'

A webinar on the topic 'Marketing and Society: Relevance and Directions' was organized on June 15, 2021, for the students of PGDM Batch 2021-2023. Speaker of the webinar Dr M. R. Suresh, Professor - Marketing, SDMIMD, traced the evolution of the marketing field and the importance of societal marketing. Dr Suresh, with several examples, explained the interface between marketing and society. The webinar dwelt on the impact of climate change on marketing and the need to focus on PPP approach (People, Planet and Profit). Dr Suresh emphasized meeting the requirements of the poor by making them co-creators of value and integrating them into the global market system to enable them to benefit from the fruits of globalization. 

MDP on HR for Non-HR Managers

An MDP on ‘HR for Non-HR Managers’ was organized on June 11 2021. The faculty resource Dr Mousumi Sengupta and Dr Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor(s) – HR/OB from SDMIMD, focused on the people management issues faced by professionals engaged in administrative roles and non-HR professionals at all levels in day-to-day work-life situations. The program concentrated on people management skills and techniques for the participants. The case studies were used to discuss the issues involved in interactions with people across all levels, irrespective of the nature of our work. Further, the interaction on functions, ranging from leading and motivating staff to appraise their performance, was exciting.
