Technical Session by Mr Sameer Parekh

Mr Sameer Parekh, Founder and Director, Greshma Shares and Stocks Ltd., delivered invited talk during the technical session of the 8th International Finance Conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Finance and Accounts’ held on September 6, 2019. Mr Parekh focused his talk on the myths of the equity market.
 
Mr Parekh opined that, for the past 1.5 years, the equity markets have been witnessing record highs and record lows. Due to the devaluation of Indian Rupee, the Financial Institutional Investments have been pulled out from the Indian market. The current situation of the market can teach us humility as they are uncertain. He concluded his address by mentioned the multiple opportunities in the capital market field.

Session on ‘R’ Language by Dr Venkatesh

Dr K.A. Venkatesh, Professor at Myanmar Institute of Information Technology, delivered a session on ‘R’ during the Pre-Conference Workshop on Empirical Research in Finance held on September 5, 2019, at SDMIMD. Dr Venkatesh demonstrated the use of R language in Data envelopment Analysis and packages in software for Various analysis methods by providing practical training for the participants. 

Session on Publication of Papers in F & A Journals

Dr P. Janaki Ramudu, Professor – Finance, and Dean - Academics at IMT Nagpur delivered the session on ‘Publication of Papers in Finance and Accounting Journals’ to the participants of Pre-Conference Workshop on Empirical Research in Finance held on September 5, 2019. Dr Ramudu discussed the need for publications and the expectations of editors from journals. While discussing the gap between the industry and academics, Dr Ramudu said ‘the research knowledge of academicians is not fully used by the industry. The industry still does not believe in the solutions from academics owing to the lack of knowledge about the industrial applications.’ Further, he detailed the traditional and emerging areas of research in Finance and the opportunities in the emerging areas.

Entrepreneur Experience by Pavan G Ranga

Mr Pavan G Ranga, Chairman, Rangsons Schuster Technologies Pvt. Ltd (RST) and CEO, Rangsons Electronics; the third -generation of the N Ranga Rao family that runs the NR group of companies and Member of Governing Board of SDMIMD addressed the PGDM 2019-21 Batch on August 12, 2019. SDMites had a chance to interact with the young entrepreneur who has transformed the Rangsons Schuster Technologies as a globally focused EMS provider. 
 
In his address, Mr Pavan gave insights on his journey as an entrepreneur and emphasised on “Nothing is wrong or right. Choose a thing and make it right”. Mr Pavan called upon the young managers to follow their passion and choose a career of their choice. The interaction on the different facets of the entrepreneurship with students made the speaker to detail the success journey on how he made RST a globally focused EMS provider. 

Prerana Alumni Lecture by Mr. Feroze Azeez

On August 12, 2019, a guest talk was organized for Second year students who have taken Finance Specialization of PGDM 2018-20 Batch by Mr. Feroze Azeez, PGDM Alumnus 2003-05 Batch; and, Deputy CEO, Anand Rathi Private Wealth Management, Mumbai, under Prerana Alumni Lecture Series. Mr. Feroze gave insights on the career opportunities in the area of Financial Derivatives and elucidated about the different financial derivatives products available in the current market. 
 
Mr. Feroze called upon the young managers to analyse their strengths and identify a niche for themselves to grow in the present corporate world. Mr. Feroze also stated that it is essential to have a curiosity to learn new things and tap opportunities for a successful career. The session was interactive and interesting with the active participation of the students in the discussion.

Invited talk on ‘Innovation Based Thinking’ by Alumnus

The Prerana Lecture Series 2019 organized invited talk on August 3, 2019, for PGDM 2019-21. The talk demystified “Innovation” and how the same can help position the product in buyer’s mind. In the hyper-competitive markets, Innovation as positioning clarity, provides the much-needed edge that helps organizations compete, acquire and keep customers. Most importantly, customer acquisition drives up revenues and can drive economies. With this background Mr. Rajesh Ballakoor, an alumnus of SDM-IMD from 95-97 batch along with Mr Krish Ramamurthy, an Industry veteran, delivered the invited talk on topic ‘Demystifying Innovation driven Customer Acquisition’. 

Guest talk by Mr. Nagi Rao

Mr. Nagi Rao, Founder, Chairman, Austin, TX; and  Founder, Chairman of EqualizeRCM Services; delivered an invited talk to the PGDM 2018-20 Batch on July 18, 2019, at SDMIMD. 
 
Mr. Nagi Rao spoke on how healthcare management has involved over the years. Mr. Rao stressed on how RCM is used as a corporate-level maintenance strategy to optimize the maintenance program of a company or facility. His highly interesting talk evoked a number of questions from the audience and on the whole, the session was highly interesting and instructive.
