Online MDPs 2020
A MDP on ‘HR for Non-HR’ was organized on August 7, 2020. The faculty resource Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Professor – HR/OB and Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor – HR/OB from SDMIMD, focused on the people management issues, faced by professionals engaged in administrative roles and non-HR professionals at all levels, in day-to-day work life situations. The case studies are used to discuss the issues involved in interactions with people, across all levels, irrespective of the nature of our work. Further, the interaction on functions, ranging from leading and motivating staff to appraising their performance was very interesting. The program concentrated on people management skills and techniques for the participants.
Online MDPs 2020
The Online Management Development Program (MDP) on Project Appraisal and Financing was organized on August 13-14, 2020. The MDP focused on how cash flows are estimated for projects, principles which goes behind in estimating cash flows. Further, the sessions by the faculty resource focused on evaluating projects using various techniques and conflict between techniques are resolved in identifying projects, management, and mitigation of risks in projects. The session concluded with a discussion on how to view and evaluate a merger/acquisition as a project. Faculty resource from SDMIMD Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director & Professor – Finance; Dr. M. Sriram, Associate Professor – Finance; and Prof. S. Kannadas, Assistant Professor; delivered the sessions.
Online MDPs 2020
A 2-Day Management Development Program (MDP) on Predictive Analytics for Business Decision Making was organized on August 19 and 20, 2020. Dr Srilakshminarayana G, Faculty – Quantitative Methods, SDMIMD, resource person for this online MDP, provided hands-on experience to the participants on the important methods used for making predictions. Case studies and statistical packages with relevant data sets were used to discuss the various methods. The program has concluded with addressing queries of the participants.
SDMIMD Celebrates the
74th Independence Day
The faculty and staff members of SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), a leading Business School of the Mysore celebrated the 74th Independence Day in the campus situated in the foothill of Chamundi.

Dr. M. Sriram, Faculty, SDMIMD unfurled the national flag and highlighted few issues and challenges which need to be resolved if one has to really celebrate independence with unbridled happiness and joy. The talk focused on secularism, climate change and Swatch Bharat Abhiyan. According to him, discipline was paramount in all our efforts and thoughts to make our nation a cleaner, greener and vibrant one.

Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, delivered a webinar session on August 20, 2020, on the data presentation of the institution in the survey focused on the CBPOMS Survey. The webinar session was organized by Muscat College Nigeria.

Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director & Professor - Finance, SDMIMD, was a panel member for the Webinar on "Is Blended Learning going to be the Future of MBA teaching?" organized by MBA Rendezvous!.

The panel which included leaders in the Management Education discussed the key aspects of online education & face to face teaching and how the stakeholders of a B-School come together to bridge the Digital Divide. Further, the discussion focused on access to online resources and adaptability to the new normal.

Dr. Prasad S.N, Professor - Strategy & General Management, SDMIMD, attended the workshop on case writing on PPP projects at ATI, Mysore on August 12-13, 2020.

As part of the CII- Industry-Institute-Panel, Dr. Prasad S.N, Professor - Strategy & General Management, SDMIMD, was a resource person in the webinar on the Online Education and the Challenges Faced by the Teaching Faculty on August 2, 2020.
Prof. Malathi Sriram, Associate Professor - Systems, SDMIMD, invited as a resource person at the webinar on "Online Education in COVID times: Opportunities and Challenges", Organized by CII Mysore Women Network Forum on August 4, 2020. She deliberated on the opportunities and challenges of online education and shared tips on how one can make effective use of online education.

Dr. M. Sriram, Associate Professor - Finance, SDMIMD, attended a one week online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Panel Data Analysis in Finance Research during Augsut 17-22, 2020. The program was organized by the Department of Humanities, Delhi Technological University, New Delhi.
Prof. Gandhi L., Chairperson - Admissions & Assistant Professor - OB/HRM, SDMIMD, addressed the MBA students through Collegedunia on the topic- "Future of MBA post COVID" on August 20, 2020.
Dr. Sunil M.V, Assistant Professor - General, SDMIMD, delivered session on "e-Resources for Literature Review" on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, scheduled as part of the week-long FDP on Research Methodology for Social Sciences: Tools, Techniques and Practices held during August 24 to 30, 2020 organized by MBA Department of Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering, Mysore.

'Diamond' Rating to SDMIMD by I-Gauge, India
SDMIMD, Mysuru has been awarded the highest level of 'Diamond' Rating among the management institutes of India by the QS-I-Gauge, the India specific rating agency for the Quacquarelli Symonds, London. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings and the Higher Education Institutes Ranking have universal acceptance across the world in the fraternity of higher education institutions, corporate employers and among the student community. The rating has examined several parameters relevant to management education and given that overall ranking based on an independent study.

It may be recalled that SDMIMD was also awarded the Business School Impact System (BSIS) certification by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) in Jan 2020 and the EFMD Accreditation for the SDMIMD's PGDM program has been successfully renewed in Feb 2020 for a period of 3 years.

It is relevant to mention here that during these COVID restriction months, SDMIMD could complete full admissions for the 2-year PGDM program 2020-22 and the classes have commenced in the online mode.
EFMD Global Network Webinar - Address by Dr Parasuraman

Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director & Professor - Finance, SDMIMD, Mysuru, was a panel member on "How to transform challenges into opportunities to maximise the impact" on August 20, 2020, organized by EFMD Global Network

Dr N.R. Parasuraman addressed on the regional perspective of the B-School sharing the specific experiences, challenges and insights into the impact assessment process, particularly in pivoting during the period of crisis.

SDMIMD Welcomes PGDM 2020-2022 Students with Orientation Program
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, welcomed the batch of PGDM 2020-2022 Batch. He shared the institute’s recent landmark rankings, vision, and mission of the Institute, and advised the students to get out of their comfort zone. Sri. Surendra Kumar, Vice-President, SDMIMD, congratulated the batch for getting into a B-School with international accreditation listed among the Top 100 B-Schools in the country.
 
Mr N Rajanarayanan, VP, Marketing and Investor Relations, The Federal Bank, was the speaker for the Day 2, August 11, 2020, of the orientation program for the PGDM 2020-2022. Mr Rajanarayanan said, ‘Change is the Only Constant’. To effectively handle constant change, the business needs an effective change management process so that it can meet the changes head on. Further, he said ‘high time for companies to realize the need for innovation which is one of the critical factors for succeeding’.
 
Prof. Ashly H. Pinnington, Dean of Research, The British University in Dubai, was invited to deliver the orientation talk to the new batch of PGDM Program on August 11, 2020. Prof. Pinnington focused the talk on the optimal self-development by using the abundant resources available to us. With relevant examples, the speaker introduced the Big Five Factor Model and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to the young managers. During the interaction, Prof. Pinnington helped the new batch understand the resources with Individual - self-knowledge; Team – knowing others; Organization – Belonging; Industry – Contribution; National – leveraging; and, Global – Universal Being.
 
Mr David Watkins, Senior VP, Group Talent, Transformation & Engagement, OC Oerlikon Management AG, Switzerla, was the invited speaker for the talk ‘Talent Management’ scheduled on August 11, 2020 for the PGDM 2020-2022. Speaker Mr Watkins discussed on - how technology works and how it continues to disrupt almost every business sector with constant advancements; no industry is completely immune from the impact of technology; and, how the need of the hour is to focus on building different skill sets and what are the types of jobs which will be demand and will be recruited in 2030. The Q&A session focused on the future of careers and Global Orientation; employment skills and workforce strategy for industry 4.O.
 
Mr Ganesh Krishnamurthy, Director, Tax and Regulatory Services, PwC & Co LLP, was the speaker for the invited talk scheduled on August 12, 2020, for the PGDM 2020-2022. Mr Ganesh said, ‘a world of immense possibilities; it is important to have a possibility mindset which will help us to get what we want’. Further the speaker said that the world is full of possibilities and we need to step out of our comfort zone and challenge the resistance within ourselves. Mr Ganesh asked the new batch to read newspapers and business papers to stay updated and alert.
 
‘VUCA represents a variety of challenging business situations, including volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity; combination of qualities that, taken together, characterize the nature of some difficult conditions and situations’ thus said Mr Vishal Krishnam, Associate Director – Deals PwC Pvt Ltd., during the webinar scheduled on August 12, 2020, to the new batch of the PGDM Program. Further, the speaker Mr Vishal discussed on the 3 Values – Foundation Values, Formation Values, Future Values; and, the 4 Qualities – Ethics, Respect, Passion for Excellence, Trust; which are core for the young manager.
 
Mr Allan Mitchell, Global Head ABB / EL Academy, was invited to deliver the invited talk on August 13, 2020, during the Orientation Program 2020 organized for the PGDM 2020-2022. Mr Allan Mitchell introduced ABB to the young managers and shared how ABB is driving the digital transformation of industries. Further, with the research, development, and innovations in ABB the speaker explained how the organization has taken initiatives as Innovation Hub, right start-up partnerships, and focused on establishing the platform in India to drive next level growth.
 
Mr Sukumar Rangachari, Mentor at IIMB; was invited to deliver webinar to the PGDM 2020-2022 Batch on August 14, 2020. Mr Sukumar discussed in the session with the agenda - How MBA will help the entrepreneurs?: How MBA broadens the horizon? And, how to have a clear vision of what you want to do, how to approach and have our value system. The Q&A session was very interactive and focused on the roadmap for the 2-Years Management Education journey at SDMIMD.
 
‘Being a professional, it requires ethical behaviour that drives interactions with other employees, customers, and leadership. Ethics extends beyond issues of right or wrong; it maintains the integrity of a workplace’ thus opined the Executive Dean of University of Dundee School of Business, Prof. Morris Altman. In the webinar scheduled on August 14, 2020, for the PGDM 2020-2022 Batch, organized as a part of the Orientation Program, Prof. Morris Altman opined that since economic activities are among the engines of economic growth, it may be concluded that business ethics may impact on the growth performances of economies.
 
Mr. Selvakumar Varadharajan, Chief Executive, Laymen Agro Ventures Private Limited, was invited to deliver the talk on “Talent Management Practices for Entrepreneurs/Managers” on August 25, 2020. Mr. Selvakumar introduce Vilfresh - a company driven by its vision where it enriches the farmers, empowers the rural youth, and excites the urban consumers. The talk focused on the role of Microprenuers, Villagepreneur, and Womenprenuers at VilFresh. Further, the speaker shared the unique hiring practices and the team structure at VilFresh. This session anchored by the course instructor of Talent Management (TM) Course Prof. L. Gandhi, Faculty – OB/HR, SDMIMD. Students from the HR Specialization attend the virtual invited talk and participated in the Q&A session.
 
Mr. Sreejith Pilassery, Country General Manager, India & South Asia, Horizontal Talent; and Ms. Satabdi Deb, Corporate Trainer, are the invited speakers for the Webinar on the topic ‘Workplace Learning and Development’ on August 26, 2020.

Mr. Sreejith introduced the ‘Horizontal Talent’ and ‘Horizontal Digital’ to the audience. The speaker threw light on how to become an infinite player with clear purpose and commitment who works on self-development, accept changes, and grow to become successful. With relevant examples of companies like Walmart, Apple, Tata, and the reasons for their triumph in today’s world. Further, the speaker described the ‘Golden Circle’ of Simon Sinek by explaining what, how, and why a person becomes successful. Another speaker for the day Ms. Shatabdi shared her understandings about success and discussed the high learning curve and great confidence. Ms Shatabdi spoke on the importance to seek knowledge and being a strong-minded person.

This session anchored by the course instructor of Workplace Learning and Development (WLD) Course Prof. L. Gandhi, Faculty – OB/HR, SDMIMD. Students from the HR Specialization attend the virtual invited talk and participated in the Q&A session.
 
Prof Sheb True from Kennesaw University, Atlanta was the invited speaker for the webinar series talk on ‘Strategy’ organized for PGDM 2019-21 Batch. Prof. Sheb True discussed about strategy as a continuum with adequacy at one end and leadership at the other end. Further he opined that companies need to decide where they should be in strategic continuum considering 3 dimensions of product positioning viz., brand, price, and performance.
 
Mr Chandramouli, CEO, Feedback Insights, was the speaker for the webinar series on the topic ‘Business Marketing’ conducted for the Marketing Specialization students of PGDM 2019-2021 Batch. Mr. Chandramouli deliberated on business marketing opportunity assessment. The speaker elaborated on how to categorise industry and firms and different ways of sizing up the B2B markets. The series also covered the concept of value chain and cost structure in a business product.
 
Prof. Jorge Arturo Leon y Velez Avelar from University of Panamericana, Mexico, was the invited speaker to address the Finance Specialization students of PGDM 2019-21 Batch. Prof. Jorge delivered the webinar on the topic ‘Cost of Capital’ discussing on how to estimate the cost of capital of a company's specific division. The case discussion centred around a star hotel which had divisions such as restaurant, lodging, event Management etc., involved the student participants.
 
Swayam - the e-Cell of SDMIMD organized invited talk by Mr A.G. Vikram the Doctoral Researcher of SDM RCMS. The talk delivered on webinar mode to the SDMites focused on the Start-up environment, definition of Start-ups and issues faced by Start-ups. Mr Vikram also outlined examples of successful but not well-known start-ups in different sectors in Bangalore. Mr. Vikram highlighted pitfalls to be avoided by budding entrepreneurs and aspects that venture capitalists would investigate while examining proposals for funding. It was an interactive session with a quiz for the participants.
