Workshop on "Development Banking and Inclusive Growth"
A Pre-Conference Workshop on “Development Banking and Inclusive Growth: Emerging Trends” was organised on November 14, 2019 as a part of 5th International Economics Conference – 2019 (IEC 2019). The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Srinivas Acharya, Managing Director, Sundaram BNP Paribas Home Finance Ltd. In his inaugural address, Mr. Acharya spoke about Infrastructure Finance and emphasized upon the changing economy and banking culture and proposed a solution in a witty remark; saying that risk management should be married to technology. He concluded his speech stating that banks take more time to evolve and change to match the trend, hence the government should aid development banking to balance the economy. Read More>
Workshop on Strategic Management
Dr Sébastien Chantelot, Director of La Rochelle Business School & Vice Dean-Academics of Excelia Group, France, was the resource person for the workshop on 'Strategic Management' organized for the PGDM 2018-20 Batch during November 15 & 16, 2019. The 2-Day workshop was delivered with the case study approach.

Panel Discussion on “Sustainability & Business Economy”
As a part of the 5th International Economics Conference-2019 on the theme of “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends” held on November 15-16, 2019 a panel discussion was organized. The topic was ‘Sustainability & Business Economy’. Dr. Gavin Melles, Professor of Sustainability, Swinburne University, Australia, Dr. Rajagopal R, Founder & CEO, KnowGenix, Mumbai and Ms. Jyotsna Belliappa, Head- CSR Assurance at BlueSky were the expert panel speakers. The panelists highlighted that the Indian corporates possess adequate knowledge about sustainability and CSR, but they also need to invest in their systems and people. The transformation of CSR from a philanthropic perspective to a sustainability was also discussed and the panelists opined that CSR should be more from a humanitarian perspective than a business practice. The discussion was moderated by Dr. M.R. Suresh, Professor-Marketing at SDMIMD.
64th Kannada Rajyotsava Celebration
The 64th Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore, on November 26, 2019. The Rajyotsava started with a festive mode decorating the campus with flag, buntings, Chappara and flowers. The event started with the hoisting of the Kannada flag of 40 feet and singing Kannada Naadageete ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya tanujaate’. Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director and Chairperson – Academics addressed the students and wished them. The campus had turned into Mini Karnataka with everyone wearing the Stole (Valli) of yellow and red combination resembling Kannada Flag. Read More>
Alumni on Campus
SDMIMD organized a talk by alumnus Mr Pramod Padmaprabhaiah as part of the Prerana Alumni Lecture Series on November 25, 2019. Mr Pramod is currently working with NTT Data Services as Global Enterprise Applications Leader.

In his talk, Mr Pramod presented the concept of ‘Gig Economy’ and explained how small activities become a part of Gig Economy extending a monetary benefit. Mr Pramod mentioned that scaling some activities in terms of monetary value can be a complex task at times and the law-making bodies find it difficult to make policies for these. It is believed that 2023 over 6 million people will be a part of the Gig Economy. The speaker explained how Bloggers, Youtubers, Craftspeople, Stack photographers, Freelancers, Software and Web designers constitute and influence Gig Economy. Further, he touched upon the characteristics of the Gig economy with examples of ‘Kaggle’ and ‘Amazon Mechanical Turk’. The talk concluded with the discussion on the four major connections in the Gig Economy i.e. Place, Routines, Purpose and People.

Invited as a Panel member at the 12th Annual International Accreditation Conference. The topic of the Panel Discussion was “Millennials Job Challenges: How B-Schools respond with Accreditation”. He also shared his experience of EPAS Accreditation. The conference was held on November 25-26, 2019 at the India International Centre (IIC), 40 Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi.

Best Student Research Paper
ACBSP The research paper 'Impact of work experience on factors influencing the choice of B-school' by Ms Riju Mittal of PGDM 2017-19 was selected for presentation at the ACBSP Conference 2019 held at Texas, Houston on the theme 'The Art of Developing Entrepreneurial Leaders' with sponsorship to attend the conference.

The selection was made in the ACBSP Region 10 (South-Asia Council) Fall Conference on the theme ‘Transforming Students Success through Recruitment, Retention, and Re-entry’ held during November 15 & 16, 2017 at SDMIMD Mysore.
