NEP 2020 should reduce Inequality and Socio-Educational Gap – Dr R. Indira

 
‘The National Education Policy 2020 seeks to have a 'Holistic Institution' with multiple discipline, mutual learning, and respect to other discipline. According to All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) 2019 report there are 993 Universities, 39931 Colleges and 10725 Stand Alone Institutions who are registered. It is time to unlearn and relearn among these Higher Educational Institutions to implement NEP 2020 to reduce inequality and socio-educational gap in the country’ thus said noted  Sociologist and reputed Professor Dr. R. Indira during the Webinar on Implication of NEP 2020 on Higher Education organized by SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) banner on November 18, 2020. 
 
Dr R. Indira said that the NEP 2020 is a vision document which details the things which can be carried out  for the betterment of Indian Education System. Even though some of the initiatives in the document are already in place in many institutions, the autonomy to frame the syllabus, more focused approach towards innovation, multi-discipline universities and corporatization of higher education are some the core  concepts which Higher Educational Institutions should now focus upon. Further, the institutions should have clear plans for social inclusiveness and growth as a research-teaching universities.
 
Speaking on the occasion Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mysore, emphasised the importance for educational institutions in bring in greater social awareness among students.
 
Dr. B. Yashoverma, Secretary of SDM Educational Trust, Ujire, graced the occasion. 
 
Dr. Sunil M.V., Nodal Officer of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) at SDMIMD coordinated the program. Faculty members, research scholars and educationist participated the webinar.  

Talk on 'The Indian Economy Path' by RBL Chief Economist

Invited speaker Ms Rajni Thakur, Chief Economist at Ratnakar Bank Limited (RBL Bank), Mumbai, delivered a webinar on 'Tracing the recovery path for the Indian economy' on November 7, 2020. 
 
The speaker was of the view that there was a slowing of the economy before the pandemic itself and further explained, how COVID had aggravated the pain. Ms Rajini opined that one of the key reasons for the slowdown was the low rate of consumption while other factors like trade war, after-effects of demonetization, and GST implementation added to the woes. The speaker highlighted how the economy was picking up with a ‘V shaped' recovery and said policy intervention would play a vital role in sustaining this momentum. Discussing the current job market, Ms Ranjini said that based on the available data there is a reduction in job loss over the last quarter. 

Webinar on Future of E-Commerce in India

Mr. Vipin Prasad, Managing Director, Joining Dots Inc., delivered webinar on the topic the ‘Future of E-Commerce in India & Growing your Business Online’ on October 27, 2020, for the PGDM and PGCM 2020 Batch. The talk was based on several personal experiences of the speaker.  Mr. Vipin Prasad is alumnus of SDMIMD.

Webinar on Alternative Financial System

Dr. Ullas Rao, Associate Professor of Finance, UG Programme Director for Business & Finance, Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, was the invited speaker for the webinar scheduled on October 24, 2020, on the topic ‘Carving out an alternative financial system: Gleanings from Financial Economics’ for the Finance Specialization students of PGDM 2019-2021 Batch. As a prelude the invited talk Dr. N. Kamakodi, Managing Director and CEO, City Union Bank Ltd., addressed the students on the theme ‘Current Trends in Banking Sector’. Dr. Ullas Rao focused on introducing the alternative financial systems prevalent across the globe. Further, the speaker discussed on how India can adopt to a new financial system which will address the ever challenge NPA and problems in the banking sector. Dr. Rao is a former faculty of SDMIMD

SDMIMD Toastmasters Club listed among Top 10

The Toastmasters Club at SDMIMD has been recognised as one of the Top 10 Clubs among 150 clubs in District 121, which consists of clubs in Karnataka and Kerala. The recognition is on account of the highest percentage of education awards filed, per base membership. SDMIMD congratulates SDMites Team of Toastmasters for their commitment and conviction in completing the education projects under the Toastmasters International Pathways Program.

Launch of Club DataTech

“Club DataTech”, the students’ Data Analytics club of SDMIMD was established with an objective to act as a backbone for all the data analytics related activities at the Institute. Club DataTech provides students an opportunity to assimilate, learn, and distribute wisdom related to the contemporary developments in data analytics.

Webinar on Cybersecurity and its growth prospects

In today's digital world, Cybersecurity is important because it encompasses everything that pertains to protecting our sensitive data from theft and damage attempted by criminals and adversaries.  To sensitize on these aspects and to introduce the placement avenues in this nish area a webinar on the topic “Overview of Cybersecurity and its growth prospects” was organized for PGDM and PGCM students of 2020 Batch on October 22, 2020. The interactive and informative talk was delivered by Mr. Rajesh Krishna, Founder, Securaa.io and Ms. Rashmi Vikram, Head - International Alliances, RSA Security & the alumnus of SDMIMD. 

Webinar on Leadership in the New Normal

Mrs Shilpa Nag, IAS, Director, Abdul Nazeer Sab State Institute for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (ANSSIRD & PR), Mysore delivered a talk on “Leadership in the New Normal” on October 21, 2020 to the PGDM 2020-2022 Batch. The session had insights on the challenges and opportunities created from the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized on the need for benevolent leadership in all walks of life to manage the health and business sectors in the new normal. The interactive session with students threw light on the adaptation and transformation in business, changing nature of employee engagement and regulation, and changing dynamics in consumerism. 

Webinar on Spend Management in SCP

Mr. Badrinath Waiker, Solution Manager, SAP Ariba, delivered webinar on the topic “Spend management in the context of global supply chain and procurement” to the PGDM 2019-2021 Batch on October 17, 2020. The session revolved around understanding spend management in the context of COVID-19, understanding the importance of Supply chain management, and how technology has transformed the supply chain management process. The session was made more illustrative by Mr. Waiker's real-life corporate examples. Mr. Waiker is an alumnus of SDMIMD.
