Talk on Leadership Qualities of Swami Vivekananda

Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Founder Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, delivered a talk on “Vivekananda – The leader” at SDMIMD on December 8, 2014. The talk was organised under the combined aegis of Vivekananda Chair at Department of Philosophy, University of Mysore and Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore. The speaker spoke about the five characteristics of a great leader – Compassion, Optimism, Faith, Humour and Mindfulness, citing examples from the lives and the works of Swami Vivekananda.

He talked of the need to translate the vision into action through the instrumentality of the Heart to feel, the Head to think and the Hand to execute the action. The talk was followed up with a lively question and answers session. Dr. H.L. Chandrashekar, the Chairman, Department of Philosophy, Mysore University, Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD and Prof. Govinda Sharma, SDMIMD, were present.

3rd International HR Conference 2014

The 3rd International Conference on Managing Human Resources at the Workplace was held on December 5 & 6, 2014 at the Institute Campus. Mr. Swaminathan Santhanam, CEO, Adrenalin eSystems Limited, was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural function and delivered the Keynote address. Mr. Swaminathan emphasized the significance of networking in organizations and opined that Social networking and collaborative networking would be the key to success for the future-oriented companies.

Vittaksh 2014 from SDMites Finnacle Team

SDMites Finance Club - Finnacle successfully conducted Vittaksh-2014 – the Annual National Level Finance Fest during November 28 & 29, 2014. Vittaksh 2014 had 9 rounds which tested and teased the brains of young management students who took part in the event. 17 teams from reputed b-schools including TAPMI, SIBM-Bangalore, Christ University, MYRA School of Business had participated in this National level event. Team from TAPMI emerged as winners of the event and bagged a cash prize of rupees twenty thousand. The team from SIBM-Bangalore was the runner up which got the cash prize of rupees fifteen thousand.

Blood Donation Camp

"The blood you donate gives someone another chance at life". SDMites are always seen coming forward with great enthusiasm to address social issues whenever the situations so warrant. Sunday, November 28, 2014, was one such day. SDMites as many as 61 in number donated their blood to Government Krishna Rajendra (KR) Hospital Mysore at a special camp held at the Institute. The medical team from K.R. Hospital and doctors from Mysore Medical College provided the medical support.

MD Speaks on Leadership Traits

Mr. Rajendra C Mruthyunjayappa, Managing Director, APAC & EMEA at Talisma Corporation Pvt. Ltd., with rich experience in Campus Management’s Asia-Pacific and Europe operations was the invited speaker on November 28, 2014. Mr. Rajendra shared the success story of Talisma Corporation Pvt. Ltd., with the topic ‘Story of Talisma & Leadership traits’.

Talk on Market Research for Marketing Strategy

Ms. Saroj Sridhar, Feedback Business Consulting, delivered a special talk on the topic ‘How Marketing Research helps in formulating Marketing Strategy?’ on November 27, 2014 at the Institute Auditorium.

Mr. Dinesh wins IFLA 2014 Award

Mr. Dinesh M.R.of PGDM 2013-15 Batch received the Infocom Future Leadership Award (IFLA) award for having placed among the top 6 papers, selected by KPMG India, the Talent Partner for the International B-School Open Paper Writing Competition organized by ABP Pvt Ltd. The other Top 5 papers were from IIM-B, ISB, XLRI and Great Lakes. Mr. Dinesh article on the theme "Entrepreneurship" will be published in IFLA 2014 Compendium. The top six will be presenting their paper at the final round scheduled on December 5, 2015 at Hotel ITC Sonar, Calcutta.

SDMites have done it again! It may be recalled here that year the paper "Empowerment & Social Businesses" by Mr. Deepak Nesarikar had won the IFLA 2013 award.

58th Karnataka Rajyotsava Celebration

On November 21, 2014 SDMIMD was transformed into a festival mood on the occasion of Rajyotsava celebrations. Students from 28 states of India happily participated in the festivities of the 58th Anniversary of Karnataka State Formation day.The event began with decorating of the photo of ‘Bhuvaneshwari - Karnataka Maate’ and lighting the traditional lamp. All the SDMites got an opportunity to taste various cuisines of Karnataka which included traditional Ragi Muddae (Ball) and Holige. Students from Karnataka played host for all the celebrations and cheerfully served the food on plantain leaves. Melodious Kannada songs were played on this occasion. The celebration culminated with the cultural programs in the evening.

Swayam's invited talk by Alumnus

Mr. Vijay Kumar A.S. alumnus of SDMIMD and independent Investment Advisory & Wealth Management; and, Principle Associate for ING Financial Services, visited the campus upon the invitation by Swayam - the entrepreneurial cell of SDMites on Sunday, November 16, 2014. The invited talk focused on the preparation and presentation of Business Plan (B-Plan). In his talk Mr. Vijay touched upon the intricacies of a B-Plan and explained its impact on business, taking examples from his experience. Corporate profiling, Investment Life Cycle of a Business, importance of valuation, entrepreneurial approaches & resource requirements, were some of the few other topics covered by speaker.

SDMites win HRM & Marketing Events @ CMS Festival

SDMites won the FIRST PLACE in HRM and Marketing events of ‘CMS Festival’ of JSS CMS. CMS Festival - the National Management Fest of JSS Center for Management Studies was held on November 14 & 15, 2014. Aditi Bhattacharya & Sudipta Pan of PGDM 2013-15, emerged as winners of the Human Resource Event "Prudentia". Sushobhan Saha & Virender Pal Bhasin won the first position in the Marketing Event.
