Tie-up with Abu Dhabi University, UAE

SDMIMD in continuation to its effort to collaborate with international universities has signed a MOU with Abu Dhabi University, UAE, establishing tie-up for the student and faculty exchange. The first student exchange is likely to take place in October / November 2017. With this, the number of international tie-ups has gone up to 7.

Business Landscape Course – PGDM 2016-18

Business Landscape, a knowledge expansion exercise was conducted by the SDMIMD faculty for the students entering the Second Year after their corporate internship.  The week long program from June 5-9, 2017, included topics on Effects of International Relations on Trade and Business, the US H1-B Visa issue,  Possible Causes of Future Job Losses, Futuristic Skill and Knowledge Requirements and student panel discussion on Skilling Oneself for the Future, Future Areas for Entrepreneurship. Special emphasis was given on learning about evolving technology.  An exciting student debate was held on the China OBOR initiative and India’s non participation in the recent summit.  Business Landscape Course was conceived and anchored by Prof Prasad SN and actively participated by several faculty members and invited speakers from the corporate. 

MDP on Finance for Non-Finance Professionals

The 2-Day Management Development Program (MDP) on 'Finance for Non Finance Professionals' was held on May 26 & 27, 2017 at SDMIMD. The program was designed and developed for the participants who were from technical departments with no formal finance and accounting background. The program equipped the participants with nuances of Financial Reporting, Cost Management for decision making and fundamentals of Corporate Finance. The pedagogy involved discussion of select cases from Harvard Publishing for reinforcing the concepts. This was followed by hands on session using MS Excel for the application of Corporate Finance concepts. Dr. M. Sriram, Assistant Professor-Finance and Prof. S. Kannadas, Assistant Professor-Finance, were the resource persons for the program.

MDP on Creativity and Problem Solving

A 1-day Management Development Program (MDP) on 'Creativity and Problem Solving' was successfully conducted at SDMIMD, Mysore, on May 26, 2017. Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean - Academics, and Professor of Operations Management, guided the participants from various industries on different aspects of creativity and discussed the problem solving methods. The program included such topics as basic elements for understanding creativity, problem solving, and creative problem solving and their implications for managing change. In addition, self-assessment about being creative, barriers to creativity, enabling creativity to improve business, were also discussed through, classroom lectures, presentations, games, hands on exercises, and case studies. The participants expressed their satisfaction as well enjoyment at the end of the program.
 
In view of the further demand for the 1-day Management Development Program (MDP) on 'Creativity and Problem Solving', it was offered again on June 2, 2017 in the institute’s campus for the corporate executives.

Leadership Program - Heads of Institutes

SDMIMD conducted a Leadership Program on the May 16 & 17, 2017, for the Heads of Institutions of SDM Group of Institutions. The program was oriented towards enhancing the leadership skills of the participants in their own environment where they will be focused on their institution's needs. The Program enthused the participants to share their leadership skills and how they drive change in their organizations. Several interactive sessions were included such as Managing Quality as per the recent trends; Understanding the Basic Tenets In Finance, Negotiation Skills, Managing Human Resources at Workplace and The Strategic and Multiple Dimensions of Leadership.

MDPs 2017 Calendar

The 2017 edition of SDMIMD’s Management Development Programs (MDPs) annual calendar is focused on feedback, changing demands on business and needs of professional executives. Over the years SDMIMD’s MDP is known to support management systems in practice and to provide training to the executives of different sectors at different levels in an organization.

Faculty Development Program (FDP) 2017

SDMIMD is organizing Faculty Development Program (FDP) in the last week of July 2017 at the SDMIMD campus in Mysore. 
 
The intensive session plan of this faculty improvement program will have coverage in the areas of Marketing, Strategy, HR, Operations, Systems and Finance. Cases from Harvard Business School will be discussed and sessions will also include hands-on sessions in the computer centre.
 
The fee is Rs.2500/- per faculty.

22nd Annual Convocation

‘Leadership is all about innovation, you cannot innovate unless you take risks and experiment’ said Rajeev Dubey, Chief Guest and Group President - HR & Corporate Services, CEO - Aftermarket Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra, at the 22nd Annual Convocation of SDMIMD’s flagship program Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) on Friday, 24 March, 2017 at SDMIMD Campus. Mr. Rajeev Dubey said that there is a paradigm shift from ‘conventional age’ to ‘information age’ and to have presence in this information age we should be full of energy, passion, engaged and committed. He called upon the graduating students to dream big and pursue their passion until they reach their goal and said ‘it is the dream that will take you to your final destination. Let me assure you, you may fall down at times, but your dream makes you reach from the stars’.
 
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, and Chairman, SDMIMD, in his video message congratulated the SDMIMD Team on Twin International Accreditations – EFMD and ACBSP, and said students are the brand ambassadors of the Institute who not only carry the Post Graduate Diploma, but also the culture, commitment and conduct to the corporate world. He called upon the young managers to be worthy of the degree awarded and committed both in professional life and social life. Due to a religious commitment at Dharmasthala, Dr. Heggade,  could not preside over the convocation was sorely missed by everyone at SDMIMD. 
 
Prof. S. Prabhakar, Secretary, SDM Educational Trust, presided over the event and conferred the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) degree to 174 students belonging to the 2015-17 batch. 
 
The Chief Guest of the Convocation, Shri. Rajeev Dubey presented the Gold Medals to the meritorious students. Winner of the Chairman’s Distinguished Student Award Ms. Namitha T R, also received the Gold Medal in function area of Marketing. Ankur Gupta Memorial Overall Performance Gold Medal awardee Ms. Pooja Hegde too received another Gold Medal in the functional area Operations. Mr. Akash Gupta secured the Gold Medal in function area Systems; the introductory, Suman Narayan Memorial Gold Medal in Human Resources Management was awarded to Ms. Anitha Narayanan. Ms. Afzana Shaji received the Ankur Gupta Memorial Gold Medal for Excellent Performance in Finance.
 
Earlier, the Director of the Institute Dr. N.R. Parasuraman welcomed the gathering and presented the Annual Report 2016-17. The presentation gave glimpses about the happenings in the Institute during the academic year. The report also shared the information about 2 international accreditations, academic achievements and students achievements, international tie-up and activities in the institute.
 
The Deputy Director of SDMIMD Dr. H. Gayathri presented the vote of thanks. Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean – Academics, led the Convocation procession and the process.
