The first batch of 15-Months full-time residential Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) approved by AICTE was formally inaugurated at SDMIMD on the August 5, 2019 by Sri. D. Surendra Kumar, Vice-President, SDM Educational Trust.

Inaugurating the program Sri Surendra Kumar said the inaugural session is very special because of 2 reasons – one, 2019 is the year, SDMIMD is celebrating its 25 Years in Management Education; and, this is first batch of One-year program offered with AICTE approval. The Certificate Awarding Ceremony for the first batch of Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) was organized on August 5, 2019. Eight students were awarded the Certificate by Shri. D. Surendra Kumar, Vice-President, SDM Educational Trust.

Dr R. Kasthuri Rangan, Strategic Management Consultant, conducted a workshop on 'Consultancy Management' for the PGDM 2018-20 Batch on August 12, 2019. In his interaction with the students, Dr R. Kasthuri Rangan gave insights on consultancy business and the opportunities available to build a career in this field. Further, the workshop educated the student participants on the unorganized consulting market in India and the performance of major consultancy business extended to the US. The workshop held the students to understand various frameworks and the discussion focused on Visibility Credibility Matrix and Strategic Agility Model. The second half of the workshop focused on the management consulting process in a firm and how to write a consulting proposal. The concepts were further detailed through case analysis and application of concepts on how to write a proposal. The session was interactive and interesting for the students as they received an enriching insight on consultancy management.

Conducting interviews in organizations for selecting the right candidates for specific job requirements requires understanding of specific aspects that revolve around the interview process. It is not a mechanical process but involves deep understanding of certain critical issues. Keeping this in mind, SDMIMD conducted a company specific program ‘Workshop on Conducting an Effective Interview’ for Theorem India Pvt Ltd. on 29 and 30 August 2019. The two-day workshop covered various issues in the context of pre-interview preparation, managing the Interview process, and, post interview Process, were deliberated. The workshop included role play activities, case study discussions and group activities, to sensitize the participants about various nuances of conducting the interview process in a positive manner. Dr. Mousumi Sengupta and Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, Professor(s) in the area of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, SDMIMD were the resource persons. Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta attended the 10th Indian Management Conclave 2019 held on August 2-3, 2019 in New Delhi as a delegate.

Prof. Mohamed Minhaj was the chief guest for the inauguration of the IT Club of SDM MMK Mysuru on August 28, 2019. After the formal inauguration of the club, Prof. Minhaj delivered a talk on Building and Managing a Web Presence.
Prof. Mohamed Minhaj was a resource person for a state level workshop conducted on August 7, 2019 by SBRR Mahajana College, Mysuru related to Trends in Research. The Workshop was inaugurated by Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice – Chancellor, University of Mysore. Prof. Minhaj’s session was related to technological tools for questionnaire design, administration and analysis.

Dr. M. Sriram was invited to deliver a talk on 'Finances in India-Opportunities and Challenges' in the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Management,Information Technology and Education held at College of Commerce and Management, Srinivas University,Mangalore on August 17,2019.

National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) Karnataka Chapter organized the quiz competition on August 25, 2019, at RV Institute fo Management, Bangalore, to select the candidates for NIPM 2019 National Quiz. Ms Juhi Prabhu and Ms Karshini Tygarajan from PGDM 2018-20 Batch won the NIPM Karnataka Chapter quiz and got selected for the national level which will be held during September 2019.

Dr. B. Venkatraja, Assistant Professor - Economics, SDMIMD, hoisted the Tricolour during the 73rd Independence Day Celebration and addressed the gathering.

Dr. Venkatraja urged the students to ponder over clear divide between the rich and poor even after 72 years and even today India is home to over one third of the poor in the world. Even though we export food still India is suffering from starvation. With the relative data on the economic situation of the country, Dr. Venkatraja called upon the students to be responsible citizens and sensible to the society. The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets and community breakfast at the Institute Mess.

Khoj - the talent search festival of SDMites is a platform for the new batch of PGDM 2019-21 to showcase their aptitude. Khoj 2019 was organized on August 3, 2019, to identify talent among the freshers through various competitions and to formally Welcome them to student committees of the Institute. The show by the new PGDM batch 2019-21 was laced with impromptu speeches, colourful dances, humorous skits, classical songs and fancy dress shows. Seniors PGDM 2018-19 Batch hosted the event and introduced the various clubs & committees to the new bees on the campus.

SDMIMD Toastmasters’ Club organized a Motivational Talk for the PGDM Batch 2019-21 on August 7, 2019. The talk was preceded by the presentation of report on the activities of the Toastmasters club at SDMIMD by the club. TM Kavitha M Prakash, Corporate Trainer for many Fortune 100 Companies and the current area Director for Toastmasters International District 92, for Mysore, spoke about going beyond our comfort zone to achieve our dreams. The talk was followed by a briefing on Toastmasters International and its activities.

On August 12, 2019, a guest talk was organized for Second year students who have taken Finance Specialization of PGDM 2018-20 Batch by Mr. Feroze Azeez, PGDM Alumnus 2003-05 Batch; and, Deputy CEO, Anand Rathi Private Wealth Management, Mumbai, under Prerana Alumni Lecture Series. Mr. Feroze gave insights on the career opportunities in the area of Financial Derivatives and elucidated about the different financial derivatives products available in the current market. The PGDM 2018-20 Batch students from Microfinance specialization had an opportunity to interact with the beneficiaries of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) in Lakshmipura, Mysuru District. The filed visit organized by the course faculty Prof. S. Kannadas, helped the students to visit the project location and small-scale business establishments of the beneficiaries of the scheme.
