Toastmaster Emergence 2015 @ SDMIMD

Emergence 2015, a training program for all Toastmasters (TMs) in Mysore was held at the Institute on March 8, 2015. Emergence is an education program & training platform aimed to help Toastmasters to hone their communication skills and prepare for upcoming contests. The half-day program hosted by SDMIMD Toastmasters Club, was attended by over 30 TMs from InfosysSPI, L&T, MYRA School of Business and Mysore City Toastmasters Club. The program included four sessions which were conducted by distinguished Toastmasters from Mangalore: the Divisional Governor TM Anita Cordeiro, TM Nivedita, TM Divyashree and TM Rajat Shetty
In her session, the Divisional Governor TM Anita Cordeiro, chalked out strategies that can be used for impromptu speaking. TM Niveditha focussed on three aspects of a speech: content, delivery and language. She demonstrated the effective use of drama in a speech to create a lasting impact on the audience. TM Divyashree elaborated on the rules and regulations to be borne in mind while participating in a contest. The last session by TM Rajat Shetty addressed various aspects that can help in effectively delivering a prepared speech. The program culminated with lunch at the SDMIMD Mess.

Budget Conclave 2015

The Union Government presented second budget on February 28, 2015. To discuss the implication and impact of this on the Country, a Budget Conclave 2015 was held in collaboration with CII Mysore, on March 4, 2015. The key highlights of Budget Conclave 2015 was the expert analysis of Union Budget 2015 by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) and the presentation by industry leaders from Mysore region representing diverse sectors offering their perspectives on impact of the Union Budget 2015 and providing sector-specific views.

International Conference at Thailand

The International Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Social Sciences (GB15_Thai Conference) organized jointly by J.A. Alpha and SDMIMD was held at Hotel Novotel in the heart of the city of Bangkok, Thailand, during February 20 to 22, 2014. Participants from more than 20 countries took part in the deliberations of the conference. The conference was inaugurated on February 21, 2015 by Dr. Alexis Sergio Esposto, Faculty of Business and Law, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. Read More>

Alpha and SDMIMD was held at Hotel Novotel in the heart of the city of Bangkok, Thailand, during February 20 to 22, 2014. Participants from more than 20 countries took part in the deliberations of the conference. The conference was inaugurated on February 21, 2015 by Dr. Alexis Sergio Esposto, Faculty of Business and Law, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. Dr. Alexis Sergio delivered the keynote address during the inauguration and stressed upon the sustainability aspects of business and environment, and described the challenges facing the world. Dr. June Bernadette D’Souza, Professor, School of Management and Economics, Assumption University of Thailand, Thailand, was the guest of honor, and spoke about the darker issues like child labor, poverty, exploitation of women, pollution, spread of AIDS, and a lack of commitment from the organizations in maintaining the welfare of the people.
Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Professor, Operations Management, SDM IMD, Mysore, attended the conference representing SDMIMD. Dr. R. Jagadeesh delivered an invited lecture on the topic of “Operations strategies for global competitiveness” in which he described the evolution of operations strategies and illustrated how they have undergone changes in view of the changes in business environment.
In one of the technical session Dr. Jagadeesh presented a paper titled “Performance Assessment and Optimization of Global Supply Chains”.

Short Movie on Atrocities of Women by SDMites

Vishnu A.A. and Kushal Swain of PGDM 13-15 batch have made an attempt to speak about the atrocities many women suffer since birth throughout their lifetime, in a musical short movie. The movie addresses the dark clouds that still loom over the Indian society even in this age and time about female foeticide

Young Minds Debated on ‘Freedom of Speech and Expression’

‘Young minds should be courageous and confident’ was the message given to the debaters by Ms. Chaya Srivatsa, Life Coach at Infosys Mysore during her inaugural address at ‘Y. Bhagavan Memorial Debate Competition’ organized by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) in association with Rotary Mysore Mid Town. She went down memory lane and recalled incidents from her college days as a student of Shri. Y. Bhagavan at Maharani’s College Mysore. She exhorted the young debaters to be courageous and confident on stage. The Guest of Honor Prof. N.R. Govinda Sharama, Faculty of Business Ethics & Strategy at SDMIMD shared his views on the significance of such events and wished the event success. 
From the past couple of years, this event has become a platform for the best minds from leading educational Institutes actively debate over a contemporary topic. This year 60 participants from leading Engineering, Medical, Management, Law and Undergraduate & Post-graduate colleges across the state debated on topic “Should my ‘Freedom of Speech & Expression’ be absolute?” in the first round. Ms. Anitha Braggs and Ms. Nandini Srinivasan judged the participants and shortlisted Top 11 for the final round. The second round for the Top 11 finalist debated on the topic ‘Industrial and Infrastructure’ development at the cost of ‘Agriculture and Environment’ in India – Yes or No?; which was judged by Prof. B.N. Balajee and Prof. Shekar. 
 
Mr. Venkatram Harish Belvadi from St. Philomena's College, Mysore won the FIRST place; the Christ University, School of Law students Mr. Aditya Y and Mr. Rahul Raman stood second and third respectively.. The Xaviers Institute of Management (XIM) Bangalore students Ms. Charishma Narayan and Ms. Keerthi K.M. won the Consolation Prize for securing fourth and fifth places. 
 
Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Professor – Operations, SDMIM was the Guest of Honor for the valedictory function; Rtn. R. Venkatesh, President, Rotary Mid-town Mysore, RtnMohan, the Y. Bhagavan family members, students from the host institute and rotary members were present. 

SDMites became Certified Qimpro Champions

Mr. Prateek Jain & Mr. Vishal Vaswani of Batch 2014-16 have won the Qimpro Champions League Competition and successfully completed five Challenges to earn the title of "Certified Qimpro Champions". The Qimpro champion’s league is an initiative that focuses on seeding Quality and Innovation concepts and practices in budding college students.
The discovery-based learning through a series of engaging challenges expects performance from systems, processes, teams, and individuals to be better, faster, cheaper, and different. On successful completion of all five challenges, SDMites have earned this award -Certified Qimpro Champion – a signature for basic Quality and Innovation.

JK Tyre & Industries CMDP Batch V – February 09 to 12, 2015

The 5th Batch of the JK Tyre & Industries Customized Management Development Program (CMDP) was conducted from February 9 to 12, 2015. The program was inaugurated by Dr. N. R.Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD Mysore in the presence of Mr. Gowri Prakash, Manager – HR, JK Tyre & Industries, VTP Mysore. The program delivered over 4-days witnessed participation from 27 participants representing the Vikrant Tyre Plant (VTP), Mysore and Chennai Tyre Plant (CTP).
The fifth in the series of programs designed for Identified High Performers (IHPs) of the company who are being trained across all the functions of management comprising of Finance, Marketing, Human Resources Management, Operations, Strategy, and Information Technology. Mr. Umesh K. Shenoy, Vice President – Works, JK Tyre & Industries, VTP Mysore was the Chief Guest for the valedictory session. The program was coordinated by Dr. Ullas Rao, Associate Professor – Finance, SDMIMD Mysore.
