BCIC Workshops for PGCM 2021-22

Workshop on “e-Mobility” 
 
A virtual workshop on the topic “e-Mobility” was conducted by BCIC on the October 9, 2021. The resource person was Mr. R. Narayanan, General Manager Ather Energy and the session was moderated by Dr. K.N. Subramanya, Chairman, Industry-Institute Interface (3i) Expert Committee, BCIC and Principal R V College of Engineering. The student of One-Year PGCM 21-22 Batch under the aegis of the BCIC-SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management (CEM) participated in the workshop. The workshop focused on the unsung heroes in ev-tech. The discussion was on how there’s been a paradigm shift with engineers and engineering.

 
Seminar on “5G Advanced Technologies and Applications” 
 
‘5G Advanced Technologies and Applications’ was the topic of the Seminar held by BCIC on October 23, 2021. Dr. M.H. Kori, IETE Distinguished Fellow & Vice President, Former Technical Director, Alcatel-Lucent Technologies, Technology Advisor - SAGE USA was the key speaker. Dr Kori threw light on the potentials of 5G Technologies while also giving a glimpse on research trends beyond 5G, perhaps 6G! The Seminar was made available to the students of PGCM 21-22 Batch under the aegis of the BCIC-SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management (CEM).

 
Workshop on “Fostering India - Japan Relationship” 
 
BCIC conducted a workshop on the topic “Fostering India - Japan Relationship” on October 29, 2021. Her Excellency Consul General Ms. Sugita Akiko, Consulate General Japan was the key resource person for the workshop. Ms. Sugita Akiko mainly spoke about the Japanese industries and companies that have been established in India and the ways in which the trade policies between India & Japan can be leveraged to strengthen the relationship between countries. BCIC-SDMIMD Center for Excellence in Management (CEM) provided the opportunity for PGCM 21-22 Batch to participate and interact in the workshop. 

 
Workshop on Lean 4.0 - Integration of Lean and Industry 4.0
 
BCIC’s workshop on “Lean 4.0 - Integration of Lean and Industry 4.0” was attended by the PGCM 2021-22 Batch on October 29, 2021. Mr. A.N. Chandramouli, Chairman, Industry 4.0 Expert Committee BCIC was the speaker for the workshop. The workshop focused on Industry 4.0 augment and support Lean; Operational excellence with Lean 4.0; Lean Digital & Automation Techniques; and limitations of Lean that can be overcome by reengineering through Industry 4.0.  The workshop was made available to the students under the aegis of the BCIC-SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management.

 
Session on Improving Energy Performance - A Systemic Approach
 
BCIC in collaboration with Bidadi Industries Association conducted an online session on the topic “Improving Energy Performance - A Systemic Approach” by Mr. G. Venkatakuppuswamy, General Manager - Key Account (Southwest Asia) LRQA, on November 10, 2021. The key takeaways from this session were finding opportunities in the new energy landscape; how to monitor, analyze, control and sustain gains; monitor energy consuming devices; and considering sustainability to build a viable & resilient business among many others. The session was made available to the One-year PGCM 21-22 Batch students under the aegis of the BCIC-SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management (CEM).

 
Session on “How to attract Taiwanese investments into India” 
 
Mr. A. Gururaj, Managing Director, Optiemus Electronics Limited, during an online session conducted on November 11, 2021, by BCIC, provided a very insightful talk on how the Indian Market can equip itself to attract Taiwanese investments into India. Being a person with rich experience and expertise in initiating significant milestones in shaping the future of Indian electronics manufacturing industry, he gave us a perspective of setting up a Greenfield Company in India. Students of One-Year PGCM 2021-22 attended the program under the aegis of the BCIC-SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management (CEM).

 
Workshop on 'New Paradigms in Leadership'
 
The 1-Year PGCM Batch 21-22 participated in the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) online workshop on the New Paradigms in Leadership held on November 2, 2021.
 
The event was conducted by Mr Thomas Welsh, Leading Expert in Releasing Potential of Managers and Leaders, REGENESIS, United Kingdom. It was moderated by Dr Augustus G S Azariah, Chairman, HR and Women Empowerment & Leadership Expert Committee BCIC and HR Leader at IBM India/South Asia. The talk was made available to the students under the aegis of the BCIC-SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management.
 
The students found the session helpful, particularly in respect of aspects involving how managers and leaders can equip themselves with the changing dimensions of leadership. The insightful discussion gave insights to the students on the nuances of leadership.

 
Workshop on “Non-Conventional Avenues of Fundraising MSMEs and Emerging Corporates”
 
In collaboration with NSE and Hem Securities Limited, BCIC conducted an interactive workshop on the topic “Non-Conventional Avenues of Fundraising MSMEs and Emerging Corporates” on November 11, 2021. The key speakers of this workshop were, Mr. R. Gopinath Rao, IEDS, Deputy Director, MSME Development Institute, Bangalore; Mr. Vivek Acharya, Chief Manager - Business Development, National Stock Exchange of India Ltd.; and Ms. Prachi Ghia, AVP - Merchant Banking, Hem Securities Ltd. The workshop provided insights on SME IPO, Forex Risk Management via exchange, managing impact of foreign currency fluctuations on Business and many more. The workshop was made available to the One-year PGCM 21-22 Batch students under the aegis of the BCIC-SDMIMD Centre for Excellence in Management (CEM).

9th International Conference on Corporate Finance and Financial Markets

The 9th International Finance conference was held on 28th and 29th October,2021 at SDMIMD (virtual model). The conference was inaugurated by Sri.F.R.Singhvi, Joint Managing Director, Sansera Engineering Ltd Bengaluru who also delivered the keynote address. During the keynote address, he stressed on the importance of holding liquid assets for growth and sustenance of business. Liquidity ensures that businesses maintain adequate cash flows and are insulated from the vagaries of changes in macro-economic factors. He also touched upon how the automation process through AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning) is changing the landscape of the finance function and the business at large. Dr.N.R.Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD released the conference proceedings in the form of a CD. During his speech, he highlighted the recent developments in the corporate finance and financial markets. Earlier, Dr.M.Sriram, Associate Professor-Finance, SDMIMD and the conference chair welcomed the gathering and introduced the conference theme for the year 2021.
 
Technical session delivered by Mr.Bharathram, Lokkur Finvestt Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru focused on the factors driving the capital market. He also briefed the audience on the various aspects which need to be looked into before making any investments. Mr.Jacob Thomas, Delivery Manager, TCS Ltd, Germany spoke on block chain and cryptocurrency. His talk covered the nuances of blockchain technology and its application in various aspects of management. There were about 50 research papers which were presented by participants from India and abroad.
 
The valedictory address was delivered by Ms.Rajni Thakur, Chief Economist, RBL Bank Ltd, Mumbai. She provided an outlook on the current state of the financial markets and discussed how the global pandemic has impacted the economies in large and the functioning of financial markets. She was emphatic that fundamentals of the economy have started to rebound and the same was reflected in the performance of the financial markets in India.

Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade releases Dr.NRP's book

SDM Educational Trust Chairman Dr. D Veerendra Heggade releases the 4th edition book 'Derivatives and Risk Management' by Dr. N R Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, Mysore. The book “Fundamentals and Financial Derivatives” was first bought out in 2008 by Wiley publishers. The book has attained popularity among students and faculty alike. The 2nd and 3rd edition of the book was bought out in 2012 and 2016 respectively. The 4th edition of the book has come out now under the revised title “Derivatives and Risk Management”. Tata McGraw Hill have taken over the rights of publication.

First aid and CPR Training for Young Managers

SDMIMD organized a session on First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for the students and staff members on 26th October 2021. The introductory session of the training program was delivered by Dr Aravind R M, Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon from Cauvery Heart and Multispeciality Hospital, Mysore.
 
Dr Aravindam explained the DOs and DONTs of first aid and laid emphasis on the importance of First Aid in saving lives. Basic first aid and CPR skills are invaluable because it lets us ease and help someone until support arrives.
 
The Session on CPR was delivered by Dr Vaidyanathan R, Consultant Intensivist and Director, Critical Care and Emergency Services from Cauvery Heart and Multispeciality Hospital, Mysore.
 
The sessions were followed by a practical demonstration of First aid and CPR by a team of Instructors of Cauvery Heart and Multispeciality Hospital and EC Members of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Mysore City Branch.
 
Earlier, the team of doctors and medical staff of Cauvery hospital was welcomed by Prof. C.V. Sridhar, Asst. Professor, SDMIMD.

International Partners Research Conference 2021

SDMIMD is partnering with the University of Dundee School of Business to jointly organize the International Partners Research Conference 2021 on 29 November 2021. The focus of this conference is on issues related to socio-economic development and submissions from all disciplines related to this overarching theme are welcome. The conference’s aim is to encourage research collaborations across the participating institutions and between individual researchers.

Certificates to the Overseas Students of UoM

A function to award certificates to successful candidates of the second edition of the Developing Business Excellence (DBE) program for overseas students was held in the SDMIMD campus recently.
 
Dr S.J. Manjunath, Co-ordinator of Third Sector Research Centre; Professor of Business Administration; and, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, University of Mysore, Mysore, expressed the view that learning from the DBE Program about the best practices concerning social responsibility and the business environment of any country will help expand the knowledge horizon. Such learning makes us connect to the contemporary world and relate to the research domain. He lauded SDMIMD for launching this unique program and helping overseas students to know India and its culture, business environment and concern to society. Read More
