Foundation Day Lecture 2022

Managing the mind, time, expectations, emotions, communication, and values is the true essence of human values and success in life, thus said Prof J.M. Subramanya, Former Director, SDMIMD, during the SDMIMD Foundation Day Lecture held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at SDMIMD campus, Mysore. 
 
Prof Subramanya speaking on the corporate culture and work-life, said 'duty with a good thought, good mind, the good heart, will always yield good results. The duty and responsibilities have to be performed with passion. Further, he said, God has blessed us with relationships in our lives and has left us the choice to choose friends, which we must exercise with due diligence. Wealth is a must in life, but how we earn, how it is spent and what portion we give back to society matters a lot. 
 
Speaking on the teaching-learning in the current scenario, he shared several anecdotes and his learnings with the concept of Vishaya (the Content), Vinaya (the humility), Vismaya (the pleasant surprise), and Vaikari (the art of presenting). 
 
The speaker gave the young managers food for thought and presented the cycle of learning - observe, experience, listen and read - from the famous Shri Someshwara Shathaka. 
 
Earlier, Dr N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, addressed the gathering highlighting the day's importance and providing an opportunity to learn from the institution builders and eminent personalities. Dr S.N. Prasad, Deputy Director, SDMIMD, introduced and welcomed the speaker. Dr M.R. Suresh, Professor of Marketing, SDMIMD, presented the vote of thanks. 
 
Guests, faculty members, alumni, staff, and the students on campus were present during the function.

Best professor in HRM

Dr. Mousumi Sengupta was awarded as the BEST PROFESSOR IN HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, during event “Times Ascent presents the 21st Edition of Asia Pacific HRM Congress”, on 20th September 2022.
 
The Asia Pacific HRM Congress is not for profit body that attempts to organise the annual meet with the objective of Learning & Development, Networking & Recognizing Leaders who have contributed value to the profession or their organization and make a difference. 

SDMIMD organized Blood Donation Camp

SDMIMD joined Terapanth Yuvak Parishad in conducting World's Biggest Donation Drive on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Institute Wellness Center. SDMIMD joined the blood donation drive held throughout the Country at 2,000+ blood donation camps under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI, in Collaboration with Tearapannth Parishad, India.
 
Sri. Nagendra, MLA, Chamaraja Constituency Mysore, inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp at SDMIMD. Mr Nagendra highlighted the importance of blood donation and appreciated the initiatives of Terapanth Yuvak Parishad and SDMIMD for conducting the camp. Dr S.N. Prasad, Deputy Director and Prof. C.V. Sridhar, Faculty & Manager - Administration, addressed the gathering. The members of the Parishad, Faculty, Staff Members, and Students, were present during the inauguration. Students & Staff Members from the institute and Members of Terapanth Yuvak Parishad Mysore generously donated blood for this Noble cause with great enthusiasm. 

Life and Career in Consulting - Prof. Rangan Mohan

On 15th September 2022, Consulate- SDMIMD’s Consulting Club organized an invited talk by Mr Rangan Mohan, Owner of Rangan Mohan Associates, on the topic Life and Career in Consulting on September 15, 2022. 
 
Mr Mohan, with nearly 40 years of experience in the industry and executive coach blended with being a CEO for two of India's well-known listed IT companies, educated the students about the topic. Mr Mohan said 'Consultancy is more about what customer needs. Consultants’ job is to ask the right questions and give their service without being hung up on them being followed.' 
 
Further, Mr Mohan suggested using the 5Ws and 1H models of questioning and the contrarian questioning model. A consultant should simplify things so as not to confuse the clients and leave too many thoughts. He recommends leaving them with 3-4 reviews at max, which can be the key takeaways. Mr Mohan suggested aspiring consultants be comfortable with the unknown and be reasonably good at networking. 
 
The talk was interactive, and the students were full of enthusiasm and inquisitiveness. The session gave the students a clear picture of consulting careers.

Best Manager award in MANNOVEX for SDMIMD student

SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) student Mr. Alen Johnathen David emerged as the Best Manager in the MANNOVEX – the National Level Management Fest organized by JSS Center for Management Studies (JSS CMS), Mysore. 
 
The performance of SDMIMD students in the 5 events – MARKOFEST (Marketing), FINATHMA (Finance), VYAPAAROTHSAVA (Business Plan), MANAV YUKTHI (HR) and BEST MANAGER - of MANNOVEX 2022 made them bag the 2nd Overall Team during the event held on August 25, 2022. Mr. Srihari H.G. and Mr. Sriram P. from PGDM 2022-2024 came 1st in FINATHMA the Finance event. 
 
PGDM 2022-24 Batch students – Mr. Sachin Kamath K and Mr. Aditya Ravi in Markofest; Ms. Arundhuti Roy and Mr. Aniruddha R Batni in Finathma; Mr. Tushar Nag, Ms. Manaswini Achuthan and Mr. Bethe Jayaprakash Naidu in Vyapaarothsava; Mr. Rajat Shaha in Best Manager; and Mr. Muthanna C.M. and Mr. Chirag Madappa in Manav Yukthi – participation along with the winners enabled  SDMIMD to secure 2nd Position in the Management Fest. 

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at SDMIMD Mysore

SDMIMD celebrated the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by paying respect to the leaders and calling the young managers to be the change agents in reaching the message of Mahotsav. 
 
Dr. Riyaz Ahamed K., Faculty, SDMIMD, was the chief guest and hoisted the tricolor. Speaking on occasion, Dr. Riyaz recalled the different phases of independence and said, 'in the Indian independence struggle, three levels of heroes must be saluted. The unknown sacrifices are not recorded in history, the regional and national heroes. For instance, Sri Ramchandra Rao, the Mahatma of Mysore, likewise, all states and ethnic groups have leaders who equally sacrificed their lives like national heroes. Bhagat Singh is a national hero and role model for his determination and commitment to the nation. Irrespective of ethnic group, language, religion, caste, and other differences, all the heroes have equally contributed to the independence of the nation' Further, he called upon the young managers to be the change agents and said, 'Change should start within like APJ Kalam noted, where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in character, harmony at home, and brings order to the nation and peace to the world.'
 
Distribution of certificates to the sports achievers, patriotic song recitation by the students, and sharing of thoughts from the faculty & students marked the celebration. 
 
The Director Dr. N R Parasuraman, Deputy Director Dr. S N Prasad, Faculty Members, Staff Members, and Students joined the celebration. 

Celebration of Freedom Flag with Young Minds

All clad in white, green, saffron, and blue, beat after beat marching in a unified footstep, the school band woke our patriotic soul. The festive environment was to celebrate our nation's 75th year of Independence at Adharsha Vidhyalaya School, Mysore. SDMIMD LIFE [Library Initiative For Education] Team celebrated Azadi Ka Amrith Mahotsav with young minds.  
 
The achievement of Ms. Ektha M.G scored 100 percent (100 in all subjects) in the 10th Board Examination, and the other twenty-seven students who secured distinction were felicitated by Dr. M.R. Suresh, Professor of Marketing SDMIMD. SDMIMD LIFE committee joined hands with the School Management in congratulating and felicitating the achievers.

CM Bommai Released a Report on Human Capital in Karnataka

The Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri. Basavaraj Bommai released a report on “Human Capital in Karnataka: An outlook of new age skill imperatives for the new age workforce” in a BCIC program held on 5th August, 2022 at Bangalore. Dr.C.N. Ashwathnarayan, Minister for Skill Development, Government of Karnataka was also present along with the Chief Minister while releasing the report. 
 
This report was prepared by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore for Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC). SDMIMD’s BCIC Centre for Excellence at Mysore has the vision of accelerating the pace of industry-academia collaboration for the betterment of the society and the present report is towards fulfilling the Centre’s objectives. 
 
This report was designed based on intensive research and interviews with several eminent industry leaders and academic experts. 
 
The report assessed the present state of skill gap in Karnataka from the lens of seven specific industry verticals such as heavy industry, automobile manufacturing, hospitality, banking, financial services and insurance, IT and ITes, pharmaceutical and consultancy services. While analysing the skill gap, the study attempted to estimate the future need of new age skill sets and the potential of academic institutions to scale up to meet the skill requirements of the industry in Karnataka. The report also offers the frameworks and recommendations to the government, industry and academia for individual and joint actions on upskilling the youths with new age skills to make them employable and productive. 
 
The Chief Minister and the Minister, after releasing the report in the presence of industry stalwarts, were appreciative of the report and assured policy actions based on the report and its recommendations. The program was attended by more than 300 industry leaders.
 
Dr.B.Venkatraja, Associate Professor of Economics, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development, Mysore was the Lead Researcher for the report.
